Are you using modifieds template maker??

If so you can make the perfect 42 panel template with the short sides 50% of the long and that will give you the narrow hex I use.

I use both. kinda like tom. I stitch all the way and then take out the last side and turn the bag right side out and restitch the hole. big knots not 8 but more then 2.
