Eye Dominance

Post by Dat » 11 Aug 2005 19:15

I'm curious to see if eye dominance plays a role in footbag. I noticed my left eye is dominant and I tend to turn my head to the right so my left eye is forward. I think my left eye dominance makes it easier for me to see down at my left side clipper and my right toe than my right side clipper and left toe. Also, I think turning my head slightly to the right affects my balance a bit.

edit: To clarify, turning my head slightly to the right is what I naturally do to compensate for my left knee getting in the way of my left eye seeing my left toe, same reason why Jethro looks at his right toe from the outside of his knee

If you don't know which eye is the dominant one, get a paper towel or toilet paper tube, and look through it with both eyes open and focus on some object across the room. Close one eye at the time and figure out which eye is looking directly down the tube.

Yeah, I have noticed this aswell. I voted strong clipper, strong toe. With my strong toe (I'm bigfoot left) I can usually see my toe coming up on the inside of my leg. On my right toe, its so much harder to see the footbag on the inside and way easier to set it up on the outside (like Erik Chan). I try to set both toes up on the inside but it seems to stress out my groin. Either its my eyes that wont let me see my flip to (for it is blocked by my knee) or its my leg that wont let me move it into position. :?
Hopefully back one day.

It's just an idea. Maybe there's truth to it, maybe there isn't. I'm only doing an experiment. I don't see how that makes me crazy, or why my sanity is relevant to discussion.

I have 20/15 vision in both eyes (that's better than average, what I see at 20 feet away, the normal eye see's at 15 feet away) so even though my left eye is dominant my vision is good enoughin both that I don't turn my head or anything, I can see the footbag fine no matter which way I tilt my head.

Having a dominant eye isn't a matter of having clearer vision in one eye. One eye is usually better at judging distances ie targetting. For archery and shooting rifles you're supposed to use the same side hand as your dominant eye, even if that's not your dominant hand.

Right eye dominant. (my left eye used to be a lazy eye and still drifts off sometimes if i am really really tired)

My right eye is insane. Like... 20/15 or 20/10. The doctor says my left eye is 20/20 but he has no fucking idea what he's talking about. I cant read with my right eye closed. All the words jumble together and form one huge word that isnt in the order it started in.

So right eye dominant, and im right sideways.

My right eye is dominant. I'm 100% sure about it. I always tragett with it, or something... Intuitionally. I even can't close my right eye without closing my left.... But I can close my left and watch only with right with ease.

And I'm right sideway, as Henry is. Right side/left foot Clipper, and right Toe.

Greets.

That is EXACTLY how i am!!!!!!!! I had to train myself for about 3 months to be able to close my right eye only.

now i can kind of close my right eye without closing my left, but if i do i can barely see anything.

When i close my right eye, and i see with my left only, its like i am looking THROUGH my right eye lid. So that is what hinders my sight. But it doesnt happen if my right eye only is open. :x

Funny, the method on that site didn't work for me.

This is really coincidental this thread just came up. I have had surgury on my right eye twice. I have whats called dwaynes syndrome, I think thats howo u spell it. The muscles in the back of my eye will pull the eye so it turns out all the time. I had surgury so it would look straight ahead. I am left eye dominant, excuse me, extremely left eye dominant. I have almost no periferal vision in my right eye. Its pretty funny cause I turn my entire body when switching from the left lane to the right when driving. Some might consider this dangerous but I have gotten pretty good. Possibly this could add to my extreme onesidedness. strong right clipper, left toe
