But where are you guys finding hack circles? I haven't seen a genuine circle since the late 90s. The scene is nearly dead here in Toronto. Seems to have been replaced in our highschools by smoking and standing around.

Freestyle helped my hack game. I kick evenly on both sides now.
Somehow I keep seeing people play skateboarding, places like
Vancouver alberta, California and the west coast. I am asking myself why? But I can't find the reason. Isn;t it obvious that footbag freestyle and hacky sack is alot more fun than standing on a wood and jumping around? Well that's my own opinions

Hahaha that made me chuckle, also too true... :?

Freestyle has drastically affected my hackysack game. Thanks to clippers jesters are freakin hard to pull off, and they used to be a bail for me. My saving ability used to be pretty amazing like, blind kicks to save and stuff like that- that's gone too. Another thing is it's now so hard for me to pass, it's not that I want to hog it's just hey, here's a bag, let me have fun with it.

One thing that's stayed is my head stalls. Don't think I'll ever lose those.

I really would love to find a hack circle. It's so strange how it just disappeared one day. I blame Bush.

It's a move where you fully extend your leg quickly right as the bag is about to hit your knee, it actually gives the appearance of the bag bouncing off of your leg as if your leg was rubber.

It also makes me cringe because it looks like the person is hyperextending their leg, and I can't imagine the move is good for your knee.

Kicking is a part of footbag. If you practice kicking it will make you better at freestyle and round out your game. There is a lot you can do with a footbag without dexing it to death. I used to be a shred head in my early days (though still a good kicker) and shunned any kind deviation from a guiltess string. Now I realize the fun and skill it takes to pull off little doozies like double kicks, spinning kicks to spinning kicks, delayed knee bumps, flying knee stalls, soul slaps, heel stalls, toe transfers ETC. There is a ton of unexplored territory there. And guess what? It's still a part of freestyle footbag, whether you neglect/realize it or not.
If you can mix freestyle with neat kicking tricks it shows you have complete mastery over the footbag.

As for 'hacking' circles I certainly wouldn't be to interested in kicking with incompetent people. You can start up a good kicking circle at any tourney.

You can't forget how to kick, if you think you have maybe you weren't good at it in the first place.

everyone i know thinks i'm like this god of hackysack, but this kid who thinks i'm untouchable (like what most of us think of Vasek) did an two back to back spinning outside kicks.

He thought that it was nothing and that i would be able to do it no problem, but i had to explain to him that i couldn't ever do that, unless i practiced the hell out of it.

I try to explain to all my buds that footbag is really not that hard, it really isn't, just takes practice, if you practice a thousand clippers, it won't help you do a pendulum. You practice what you are good at. practice kicking and shredding and you'll be good at both, practice whirls, and spinning outside kicks, and you'll be good at both.

Now, some of it comes naturally or as you learn to be able to control your body better, which is called cordination. But for the most part teaching your muscles a clipper, teaches it a clipper, teaching it to inside kick teaches it to inside kick.

you can be able to do 10,000 inside kicks and never be able to stall, unless you practice stalling.

So the only way that Shredding can possibly mess up you kicking is if you stop kicking (which you shouldn't) and only shred via stalls. However shredding can still involve some fancy jesters and festers, you see Vasek even do those once in a while.

The best thing to do is cry out "DO A TRICK!" to see if they respond immediately. However, from what I can tell, they just look at you blankly and roll along.

People that I used to kick with before i started freestyle seem to not like it when I join their circles anymore. So freestyle has affected my hack game where I don't really hack that much. If I do, I tend to keep it simple, maybe do a clipper stall or an around the world, but i make sure to pass it right away. But, I tend to go towards freestyle circles, it's more fun :D
Miss playing footbag, hope to start kicking again soon

Mike - I still see hack circles everywhere, even lots in Toronto.

I REALLY hate joining hack circles full of randoms that can barely kick!

I LOVE hack circles at footbag events because everyone can kick well enough for it to be fun.

I started out freestyle without any real hack skills and picked them up over the years, they are pretty unrelated skills and doing one will only affect the other in the sense that you are doing it less and thus it gets less practice.

On the topic of hacking, my favourite kicking toy is a shuttle cock!

If I'm freestyling anywhere on campus a hack circle usually tends to pop up around me eventually. At which point the 32 goes away and a sandbag comes out. Can be a bit annoying if I'm trying to drill something, but hackin it up is fun so it's all good.

Most hackers I know are friends of mine anyway (or are soon after joining a circle if they're not douches).

The cool part is when you get random hackers inspired to try and do something outside of their normal comfort zone. More often than get annoyed at a long run (hey I was freestyling to begin with, they joined my circle) they want to try and learn bit for themselves.

I can't remember how many times I've taught Toe Stall, and some friends of mine from college & from high school have moved on to Mirages and Butterflys and the like.

Anyway, it's important (at least for me) to keep hackin' and freestyle as mostly separate entities, especially if you're intruding on someone else's circle. If they pass you the bag and you shred for 20 contacts then drop it or toss it off, most likely they'll just take it as "showing off." Not to mention that it's just not the point of the game.
