Footbag Dating
Footbag Dating
Just curious about what footbag guys think about dating within the community. I know it's done, and there are dominant couples in footbag, not to mention the famous footbaggers that are single and wanted, etc.
I know that a shredita is going to be way out numbered and is going to get a lot of attention just because she's a girl, but as a guy what do you think? Is a girl sexy only because she's a footbagger? If she's already dated in the community is she old news and not to be dated again? Just wanted some views from guys about the matter.
(Sorry if there has been a post about this already, I searched for a thread regarding this and didn't find any.)

The answer is yes, I am available. But the question is, for how long...
Edit: I decided your questions were posed in such a genuine way, that they definitely warrant a more genuine response
Just wanted to mention foremost that the fact that you are asking the guys' opinions on the matter is very admirable and refreshing, and is something that rarely occurs anymore. I feel that most women now days are incapable of being this candid with anyone but their female friends for various reasons, but it destroys the natural flow of things to be this way. It seems like men used to be more like this and now it's reversed or something. I'm also referring to men and women in America, and it's not the same in every single case, as you obviously have proved.
Apart from that, I'm probably the worst person to give dating advice haha. All I know is, what I appreciate from a woman most is honesty and openness. If you possess those things, then all of your questions are sort of answered. People (at least I do) hold honesty above anything else, and whether you choose to date someone or not, no one is going to look at you in any way other than how you are as a person.

hehe I can weigh in I guess.
It *really* depends on how the couple is formed and who played footbag at that time, I think.
I find it hot when a girl shreds because it means she's the type of person that is willing to put work into getting something awesome that they want. I find that trait very appealing. Also, in general, since this is an athletic thing it means they're often in good shape which is always a plus.
That said, I find being attracted to footbag girls distracting and annoying really. It only happens sometimes but I don't like the way it interferes with just acting normal and genuine. I guess its the retard-mind-rays that girls shoot into our brains, I'm pretty sure it's not our fault.
Anyways, I really welcome girls in the sport because it makes it feel a lot more human, because in real life there are girls, however in most niche wierdo sports that take alot of work there don't seem to be that many. Which sucks because all I do is wierdo niche sports and so I am a lonely bachelor. haha
Oh, and I don't know if a shredita can be re-dated, it hasn't really happened yet I guess. Most often the girl disappears, except in the cases where she was a shredder to begin with, as I said at the start, relationship entry conditions matter.

Interesting question.
In my experience I have actively avoided dating shreditas. The way I see it, I know I am in footbag for the long haul and nothing is going to change that. If a shredita has only been playing a little while, dates me, then we break up, there is a good chance she will quit. I've seen this happen with other footbag couples many times over my career; the guy invariably stays while the girl goes. Given that footbag is such a teenage white male dominated sport, I would feel guilty for somehow making it even more so. I always thought that there are plenty of eligible women outside of the footbag scene, so why risk reducing the number in the community when you can just date outside of it?
That said, if a shredita has been in the sport for several years and would probably not quit even after a break-up, that might be different.

It has happened in the US, even if not recently. There have also been cases where it's across net/freestyle lines.mosher wrote: Oh, and I don't know if a shredita can be re-dated, it hasn't really happened yet I guess. .

Well, what about guys who have dated more than one shredita?! How about that, hmmmm?? I'm sure that has happened too. I can think of at least 2 prime examples, even if those girls didn't get into footbag if it weren't for the guys and even if they don't play anymore. They did play and they did become a part of the community. So does that make those guys "old news"?
I don't think so. I think people date and we are people and most of us will continue to search for someone that makes us happy, whether they shred or not. Of course footbag is a wicked bonus, but obviously it wouldn't be enough to base a relationship on.
I've written about this at length already in our forum, but I think that as long as the new person wasn't good friends with the last person, being a part of the community really shouldn't stop you from being with someone, regardless of who you or they dated before.

I'm actively trying to get more girls into the sport of footbag without getting into relationships. Like Tom and other people have said, I get infatuated with people who play the same sport as I do. However, I always find myself pushed into a corner if the infatuation goes beyond its limit into something more genuine, and I just don't know what to do about it sometimes. I always feel troubled and cautious not to ruin a perfectly good friendship, but my selfish impulses for wanting a relationship gets me to the point that I feel like I'm going insane.
So far, I haven't ruined any personal relationships through footbag, and that offers me a positive motive in spreading the sport. However, I feel it is alright, and indeed cool, to have someone that loves the same sport as I do, because we will want to pursue the same goals to achieve in the sport of footbag.

I can think of two prime examples as well, and there is a significant bias when it comes to who plays footbag, and who gets ousted. I think it's troubling, but I'm sure there is a basis that goes beyond the realms of footbag in those terms.Camillion wrote:Well, what about guys who have dated more than one shredita?! About my comment on re-dating, I guess that was just a lazy brain scan because I can think of several now myself, haha.
Anyways, we're all people and on different paths, if it happens that some girls path collides with mine for a while and that happens to spill over into a flame for footbag for her, that's fine I think. If her path then continues on without me the footbag may or may not stick with her.
Peng and I broke up after about 2.5 years of being a 'footbag couple' (I guess??), we had a great relationship and we are still best friends and talk on the phone almost daily even though she now lives in China.
Footbag has stayed with her to a degree too, for a while she was shredding solo and making lots of progress!
She's since become distracted by lots of other things, but that's fine too! Again, we're all just people going along living, and some things stick with us and some don't.
I happen to know that I am in footbag for the long haul, like Ken said, and I will always be willing to share my passion with any girl that comes into my life, but that's because I share all my passions with people close to me!

I think that in a relationship it's usually a good thing if you have something in common - not necessarily footbag - but that's obviously one thing you could have in common with a girl. I guess personally I don't really feel like footbag is that important to me beyond actually playing. I'm pretty bored these days by talking about footbag most of the time (especially because generally my conversations about footbag are with people who have never played - ie. yes there are a competitions, about 7 years, no I don't play soccer etc.). So if a girl played footbag that would probably be a very small positive (in terms of my attraction to her, it would be massive in having somebody to play with, which is much rarer than finding girls to sleep with
) but I'd be more interested in what kind of person she is etc.
So basically I wouldn't choose to date a girl based on whether she played footbag or not, which is a good thing for me, based on the fact that there are no girls who play in the state.

There are definately a million things I look for in a girl before I would even consider playing footbag (lol seriously who has that on their checklist of things they look for) but that's only because it is so rare. I think its definately a plus if a girl is physically active in any of her hobbies, like running, swimming, rock climbing, biking, etc. because it would keep her in good shape and healthy, but footbag would be especially cool since you could do it together.
At the same time though, I feel footbag is probably something that I would rather NOT share with the girlfriend due to its high level of frustration and girls' natural ability to overreact when put in any situation imaginable. I think because I treat footbag as kind of an escape / recreation activity, I'd rather keep it separate from misses.
That being said, I have no idea how it would really work out. My ex gf ran like 10 miles a day and it was kind of annoying how she was never around during the week cause she'd be at the gym for like 3 hours after working 8-6 and my current gf is an ex x-country runner who now smokes ciggs which disgusts me. So I guess you cant have it both ways.

Re: Footbag Dating
I'm going to have to agree with Brian. Footbag is frustrating at times. Probably too frustrating for most girls to be able to handle. That's probably why there are so few of us girls in the sport, because we just can't handle the stress. I'm just glad there are so many level headed guys in this sport to keep me from freaking out when I drop the bag... sometimes I just can't help but to overreact.
Sometimes I get overwhelmed just hanging out with guy footbag players. They're just so much better mentally equipped to play footbag. I should probably take up soccer or tennis or something that doesn't require as much focus and emotional control.

I'm not sure to what degree Emily's post was sarcastic, I guess Camilles response threw me off.
Either way, I think this is also worth talking about.
I've long wondered, and no girl has yet given me a good answer, if there are no girls in footbag or in any of the niche sports I've found....
WHAT THE FUCK DO GIRLS DO???????????????
Not trying to be a dick, I really don't know the answer!
My days are filled with learning all these retarded skills and stuff, but I have no idea what a girl fills her day with.
I've gotten answers like 'going shopping!' or 'hanging out with friends!', but those are SO BORING!!
Really though, NOT BEING A DICK!!!!!! All the footbag girls I've met have been cool and do things, so I know that they can exist.. but like.. seriously, what does a normal girl do all day??

Tom,
Camille's response was just right.
You asked what normal girls do, and I'm guessing it's something like what normal guys do. I know guys who have unusual hobbies or younger guys who play sports, but what about the rest of you? I know a bunch of answers to that question, I'm just pointing out that it's probably not a girl/guy thing, just a "normal" vs. unusual (read: "interesting") person thing.
Camille's response was just right.

I find it very attractive when a girl can be into something as strange as footbag, just like I am. Footbag has an assortment of people with different personalities, but it seems to me that generally there's a 'down to earth' quality between all of us and cool down-to-earth girls are the best girls imo. But to quote Tom, those "retard-mind-rays that girls shoot into our brains" need control.
But I am glad to have a girlfriend who appreciates footbag regardless of if she plays or not.

What as a footbag girl do I do all day that isn't footbag?
or
What do girls that don't play footbag (or other sport) do with their days?
My answer to both is that either she goes to school or she works and probably drinks on the weekends, and honestly doesn't do many more things than that. Except hobbies (which you excluded i think) or stupid boring stuff like shopping, friends, etc.
