i think you should buy the 5 lbs, you can make around 7 - 8 bags with 1 lbs ... if you want to start and continue stitching, 5 lbs is good.

I just found this on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/5Kg-1mm-steel-sho ... 0492373467
1mm and 1.4mm stainless shot. I'm not sure if this is too small, but it's a very good price I reckon.

I just found a teddy bear place that sells stainless shot by the kilo. I'm going to ring them tomorrow to find out what it's like.

1mm shot is a lil big imo. (this equal size 7)

i prefer size 8.5 - 9 (which are 0.085 - 0.080mm ). You'll say that this is not a big difference,but its 15% - 20% smaller and you can feel it when you rub a bag.

Anyway, its just a matter of opinion. Some stitchers uses bigger filler than mine and some (like Hania and footfighter) uses smaller.

But if you dont know yet what is your preferences, try many types of sizes/type of filler without wasting a lot of money and you'll be set.

Things you can try:

filler:
steal shots
lead shots
tungsten shots

they all got different sizes, i tried them all and then i knew what i like.

ok so here is what i did,

i contacted pelletsllc.com and told them i wanted 5 lbs. of stainless steel wire cut shot (conditioned) .080 (2.00mm).
just a heads up...
When i contacted pellets for a quote for 3 lbs they replied saying the smallest amount they could ship was 5 lbs. for $25, but when i called to place the order the chick said that $25 is their minimum purchase order and that it is about $3.75 per lbs.

I was able to get 7 lbs. for about $26 plus $5 for shipping.

I just received 2kg of stainless shot from a teddy bear shop..
The stuff is tiny. Probably less than 0.5mm diameter (~0.02") But that bears a problem for me.

The plastic filler I have is just the extruded plastic stuff, which is much much larger than this steel shot. So I don't really want to use it anymore...
50g of the shot is roughly 9ml in volume, only about 1/3 of what I want in the bag I reckon. So I need some much finer plastic filler now too.

So what's the best FINE plastic filler for plumping up a bag??

I found this one day when searching about for fillers, but never tried it: http://www.save-on-crafts.com/beanbagfil8o.html
It really isn't bad at all.
I think you could make a nice hybrid.

thanks jtm. Those look to be similar size to what I have. There's got to be something that is the same, just finer.

You can definitely find something as fine as you're wanting at a local craft store.
Whenever I checked at Pat Catan's and Marshall's craft store they didn't have enough fine filler in size that was economic enough.
They either had a lot of airsoft bb or slightly smaller filler or a little of fine as sand find.
If you want a really fine plastic filler then I think what I had found was the way to go. I didn't get it because 1 it wasn't enough to make more than one footbag by "itself" and I figured for as small as it was I would just use sand.
