How to Make Glow Bags Heavier?

Post by Jorden » 12 Dec 2012 14:35

Hey everybody,

The obvious issue with glow bags is that the filler needs to be clear so the light can shine through it.
But plastic pellets barely weigh anything with little to no benefit being used besides taking up volume!
Most glow bags are ok weight-wise but it comes with a price of being too overfilled, thus roll-y and hard to control.
Emptying out the bags to optimal fill-level leaves the bags underweight and floaty/pancakey and lopsided in the air (so they don't fall very straight).

My question to you knowledgeable bag makers is this: does there exist a filler that is both clear and heavy?
My initial thought was some kind of ground quartz crystal or something.

Or does anyone have a different solution or has surpassed this hurdle in a different way?

Thanks!

You could try glass beads, which are about the same density as quartz. You can get quartz beads as well. You could also try experimenting ratios of clear beads and metal - the glow might not be diminished too much if you use something like 25% metal, and the weight might be much better. Using a reflective metal might help too.
