SJFF was loads of fun. It's too bad my knee is such a biggety bitch.

I hit spinning ducking clipper, spinning ducking osis, and spinning ducking pdx mirage for the first time.
run with tapping whirl and zulu ps mirage

other stuff? probably. wasn't playing too well because of my knee like i said.

SJFF video coming out in a few days! Now I have to get to stitching for NYJ since I made about $245 from bags at SJFF!! :D :D :D

Now I'll say a few things about SJFF I guess...

It was fun. I was overindulgent. I witnessed some amazing things that weekend, and had a blast hanging out even though I couldn't shred too much. Also, it felt kind of redeeming to have so many people tell me that they like my bags.. makes me feel like the practice is definitely paying off.

I bought juggling balls. I plan to juggle until I can get my knee back to 100%.

Met a whole bunch of new people & saw old friends, forgot my toothbrush, sat next to a guy on the bus that smelled like piss, saw professional jump-ropers... and more. I can't even talk about how much more there was.

circle contest was my favorite part of the weekend, followed by Kevin slipping, Penske's Michael Jackson impression & FINE CRAFTSMANSHIP, and donuts & beer. mmm. way too tired... waiting for sjff 5 vid to upload then crashing. :D

Soooo I still haven't played footbag since SJFF. Knee is bunk, seeing doctor when I go home because I've barely got enough $ for rent and food until school is out. Footbag is a big tease for me right now. All these new, fluffy bags lying around and I can't even do legovers because I'm crippled. :(

Just got back from Paris yesterday, it was a whole lot of fun but I slept until 3:30 and I'm still disoriented from the time change. Drank wine, visited the catacombs, hung out with the fam. Stitched 2 bags while I was gone, I was going to take a picture but Jeremy still has my camera.

It was my birthday yesterday! I'm 20 now. Boomshakkalakka. Other than the knee, things are going great and I'm stoked for New year's jam, even if I won't be able to play.

Haven't written in here in a while because i haven't played any footbag...never posted any pics from Paris, so here's this one in the catacombs! Image

Speaking of bones...I went to a doctor; i either have bone bruising or a torn meniscus. Because of the intense pain I get if I try to flex it, I'm pretty sure it's a torn meniscus... in which case, I'll probably need surgery.

"Patients are usually on some type of activity restriction for approximately 6 weeks after surgery, or until rehabilitation has been successfully completed."

Getting an MRI and then I'll know what's up.... feeling pretty depressed about the whole thing, won't be able to play for .. who knows how long. :(

Before I started footbag, when I kicked a lot, at one point my left ankle was really bad.

I had to take pills 3 times a day to have less pain. I had pain anyways. This lasted 3 months. For that whole time I was restricted from any exercice that could lead the ankle to get worst. But after all that time, it got better by listening to it when it was getting too much. Once the smalest dose of pain appeared I would stop the activity I would do. The day it felt good again I would do wathever I could. And after doing the same with footbag, I managed to get myself to play 5 times a week and not feel pain anymore (Besides having sore legs!).

I hope your problem will be solved easier. But don't forget to rehabilitate correctly.

I damaged my meniscus and managed to recover, be prepared to not do symp on that leg again, hope you don't need surgury cause that would really suck. I hope you fully recover from your injury, how did it happen?

Janis: It happened in jiu-jitsu, basically i had my leg outstretched and someone put their weight on it as i was trying to slide back and stand up, so it bent back the wrong way a little bit. Anthing inparticular you did to speed up your recovery?

Mathieu: Thanks for the encouragement, I know I will play again, just sucks not knowing how long it will take. I'm definitely going to take it slowly as needed though.

Got an MRI done today, get the results in a week. Been stitching and juggling a lot with my free time, going to try and pump out 3 more bags for NYJ at least, will post pics of the new bags sometime soon probably.

Got my MRI results today.. good and bad news. The good news is that I don't immediately need surgery, and I don't have a tear in my meniscus.

the bad news is that i have "Intrasubstance degenerative change involving the posterior horn of the medial meniscus," and "Mild patellar tendinosis," and also "Thin medial plica."

So some degenerative damage in my meniscus, some patella stress, and scar tissue, which is causing the pain when i attempt to flex my leg. The prognosis is rest & physical therapy, but the doc said I could still exercise, and that any pain I feel is just pain, and is not making the damage any worse.

Somehow though, I feel like playing footbag 3X a week would slow the recovery process. I've decided I'm going to KICK a little bit at NYJ and see how it feels, maybe shred lightly, and then rest and go to physical therapy until I see progress.

Overall, reassuring news. :D

Good to hear about the knee!
I've had my meniscus repaired twice ... recovery is quick, but your knee will never be the same after surgery.

SO TAKE CARE OF YOUR KNEE!

Seriuosly, just keep the footbag playing level down for a while, wear a knee brace when you do play, and things should be good.

Plus surgery costs lots of money .. you'll probably get a taste of that once the MRI bill comes in. :D

See ya at NYJ!

Thanks for the encouragement/advice. I really can't wait to start physical therapy.

Played footbag today in order to test the waters for NYJ. First time in over a month. My first run was pretty decent, all things considered. I played with a knee brace, which is really cumbersome, but it makes playing much less painful. I think that indicates that it's necessary. Even with the brace, I can't/shouldn't do symps, whirls, or illusions, and it's difficult to set the bag high from a clipper. Other than that, my game seems close to where it was - stamina + rustyness.

zulu pdx mirage>zulu pdx mirage
tapping whirl>run
flail 1st try
pixie ss symp mirage
ducking bflys, pdx drifter & pdx whirl strong, whirl strong, drifter weak.
BOP bsos, some ok ducking combos, legbeater.. really difficult though not painful w/the brace.
one run with something like 25-30 contacts, a lot of repeats though.

Xmas trip to seattle w/the fam had it's fun moments, but I'm glad it's over for the most part. Little kids never shut the fuck up. Looking forward to NYJ, I think I'll feel up to shredding a little bit as long as Emily will smack me if i start to try anything hard. I told myself before the session to take it super easy, and I ended up trying zulu pdx whirl.. (close!) and ps whirl and all this stuff. I can't help myself!

Chicago was awesome. I played the first 2 days, then gave my knee a rest and played on january 1st with Ianek, Kolo, Mathieu and Rory. I'm not going to do a long writeup about NYJ, I will just say that I had a blast and that I'll be making a vid tomorrow when I get back home to Santa Cruz. Oh, and that I FUCKING HATE AMERICAN AIRLINES.

Sidenote: I sold all my bags. I now have $500 set aside for worlds. (There's a good chance I will have to dip into that money for a NOFX show in sanfran, and possibly a roadtrip to humboldt though.) Ordered a bunch of new fabric, stoked to start preparing for worlds. I hope to have at least 25 bags for worlds, and I'm going to start doing custom orders if anyone wants.

Even though I was rusty and awkward because of my time-off and knee brace, it was a whole lot of fun to shred with so many new people! Not to mention the flipside dodgebag game. I think my favorite session was actually the last day, Ianek gave me some helpful advice on my spinning which finally clicked. No real big shred highlights, I footed mullet the 1st day, didn't hit anything new though. Competed in circle competition (because I thought there was an intermediate category,) and got stomped by Nick Landes, Zach Jahner, and Chris Dean. It was a whole lot of fun competing in circle contest though, it's my favorite type of competition for sure. Feels almost like you're just shredding with your friends. Ended up sleeping through the polar bear dive because Emily got sick and I, the good boyfriend that I am, had to stay in bed as well. I'm writing too much; it was fun, glad I went. See you in Santa Cruz.

Thanks Holly. :D

Had a session last night with Jeremy Emily and Max. I hit some ok runs, one with 34 contacts, one with eggbeater>dlo, lots of 3's and a few 4's.
zulu ps mirage, spinning ducking clipper

I am worried about freestyle making my body fall apart.. I want to try and focus on making my style as low-impact as possible.. which will probably mean trashing stuff like ps whirl at least for the time being.

I started school again.. I like it; it's much better than working. Graduating in June but I've still got like 5 years before I have to enter the real world. haha.

:( I'm worried about the same thing because my family has a bad history of knee a joint problems, I already hurt a lot more than I used to in my knees, so I'm concerned how my kness will feel when I'm 40 if I keep playing till my mid 20's.

Do you play on mats most of the time?
