Hit spinning ducking osis>ducking spinning osis today. I was quite pleased with that. It took me a lot of goes and made me a bit dizzy, but I got it once.

So that was cool. They are probably going to bring out a bloke for judging the freestyle football titles. It's not confirmed, so I won't say who it his, but old made has something like 50,000 followers on Instagram, so it could be a cool opportunity. I didn't play so much today, but got in two short sessions. Worked a bit more on atomics, I want to get tap>eggplant>atomic ss legover rpt that would be a bit of a boost for these toe runs. It's been interesting working on them, it's something way out of my comfort zone. I have also been playing around a little bit with these runs suggested by Jorden, with swirls, rakes, osis. Haven't done non xbd rakes in a long while so that was a bit of fun.

I had a short session in my dinner break. I was thinking I would not have much to report, I only played about 15 mins, but I thought I should try and hit a sick 3 to have something to put in my blog. Darwalk>mobius>motion had that mission accomplished.

I had done a run of a bit over 20 contacts with spinning mirage on both sides and done pixie osis>stepping legover (both op and ss) they were my highlights until that final combo. The pixie same osis>stepping same legover was a bit tricky.

Now that I have my gopro back on the charge, I want to make some more of those footbag/skate videos. I have some attachments for water use so hopefully I'll get some water footage someday. Anyhow, there was something on the Facebook group today and Tom Mosher mentioned doing some tricks on skates. I did a little bit of that when I was in high school (we're talking maybe 2002 here, so I didn't have much of a repertoire in terms of tricks) I think I could get some stuff now that could be pretty unique.

In reality I haven't done that much unique in my footbag "career". Maybe some travel related stuff, and cool scenery stuff, and some things on the organisational side, but I'm talking about just in my game. I am trying to improve a bit with the ball as well, as I'd like to get a better result than last time. That last time in Melbourne I thought I did ok, not too many drops, a few variety moves (I even did that trick where you sit down and catch the ball on your sole). It was fairly easy stuff, but a bit of flow, but I didn't go too well at all. So hopefully I can improve on that. Will probably practice a bit more in the coming month or so before the comp in Sydney.

Hopefully having a session tomorrow evening, not sure if Caroline can make it, but hopefully with Dianne and Copey. Hope Copey can come out, it's been ages since I've seen him. So that's that. Working til the evening and then back in the morning so I won't have too many exciting stories.

I had a pretty big day of freestyle stuff yesterday. Very little today. It has been incredibly hot here the last few days. The summer has been fairly light up until now, but it's really making up for it in these last days. Powerful sun.

Anyway, I kicked with Dianne yesterday, we've been trying to catch up about once a week. She works about 4 different jobs, so like most people in Canberra who aren't in the public service, it can be pretty hard to make a time, but we just look at our different options about a week out and see if we've got any blanks that match up. Anyway, she's learning well. Did mirage for the first time yesterday. That was cool. I said "Why don't you try mirage", then she did it on the second go.

I quite enjoy these sessions because we mix it up with the bag and the ball. On the ball side of things, I did this trick called slap (kind of like a clipper but you hold the ball against the back of your leg) and played out of that in the middle of a stronger run. I also did cloud kick>spinning cloud kick which I'm sure has its own name.

In the afternoon I went to a place called Booroomba Rocks which had some good scenery. I thought I might even come across a snake for Nick's challenge. There were some small lizards around but nothing worth getting on camera. I put together some footage I got there but my internet connection is not being great at the moment, so that will be something to show tomorrow.

On my ride to uni today I got a puncture. That put a bit of a puncture in the day as a matter of fact, as I then walked home about 10km in the hot sun pushing my bike. To counter that negative I bought some beers to drink along the way. As I was going along a bloke said to me, "You've got the right idea, mate!" - I think he would have swapped his suit immediately...

We had dinner with Caroline last night, haven't kicked with her in a while, she's got a couple of injury concerns so is taking it fairly easy. Anyway, that's it from me for today. Will go to bed soon. It's still really hot, but I'm getting to the point where I'm tired enough to just drop off.

I had two short sessions today. One was at uni and I had a run of around 30 contacts after suffering with some really short runs. The other was just before coming into work. I was a bit early, so I played just outside the shopping centre, where I could feel the flow of the aircon. It has been seriously hot the last few days, they say 31 for today, but it felt hotter.

Anyway, I stole this link of ducking clipper>spinning clipper>rev swirl rpt from Kyle and that was quite tricky, but I did it eventually. In the second session I did a cool combo of far swirl>spinning osis>rev swirl. Just on one side, but I liked it. Had a few reasonable attempts at spinning ducking blender too.

Back at work now after a couple of days off. Nothing much on this weekend, but heading to Sydney next weekend which should be a fun trip.

Thanks mates, it was the first time I had been out there, had been meaning to for quite some time. There's a lot of walks out there in Namadgi that I would like to check out.

For some reason motion sickness has become a reasonably consistent trick, which is a good thing.

Not much news on my end. Just played a little bit today. Spinning osis>ducking osis rpt which is either new or I've done it once or twice before. I don't think I've done it in that particular order at least.

I want to undertake a little research project, not certain it will work or hold any benefit, but a beginning is something. Basically I want to get people who are doing demos to say how many people (approx) are coming to watch them, whether they are paid or not and whether they are self organised or done through an agency etc. I think it could become a really useful tool in time. Of course self reporting has its perils, but it's better than nothing at all. So I'm going to work on that in the near future. I might get in touch with people like Honza and Taishi who are doing a lot of demonstrating to get the best collection ideas.

A more down the line idea, which is not unfathomable, is to have a system of online classes that is official IFPA run, and you get some "verified experts", they give the class, somebody pays, a small chunk of the fee goes to the IFPA, that funds tournaments etc. I am also planning to do up some basic education ideas to put as a "course" that people will be able to do online to become an IFPA certified instructor. In time there can be different levels of that too. I have a few of these ideas floating around in my head and will be getting to making some headway on them in the coming months.

We should be booking tickets for Chile at the end of the year in the coming days. Probably be there end of Nov-start of Jan which should be fun. This will make getting to Portland for Worlds next year a bit of a test, but I really have my heart set on that.

Today I was having a really terrible session. I went to the park with Caroline. She's got some issue with the hip which she is going to a specialist about later in the week so probably won't be doing too much playing. But anyway, I was going along and just going hopeless. Really struggling to string tricks together. At one point I got so frustrated I picked up a stick and through it at a metal bin, which made a very loud crashing sound.

That's not really my go, but I have had a bit of a weird couple of days. A guy threatened that he would kill me at work last night. That was fun. Since I'm typing this away back at work, he was not successful. He told me he would be waiting for me at the end of the shift, but didn't seem to make it there in time. That was one of those days where you think to yourself - "This is not what I signed up for".

Back to footbag, so I'm going along, just playing like crap and finally get a breakthrough - 10 guiltless. This was looking like a real highlight of the session, which is not looking good. I was asking Caroline for a challenge and while she was thinking of something I just wanted to try.

And then out of nowhere I hit>

phoenix>blurry whirl>spinning ducking butterfly>spinning ducking osis>tomahawk

to get me to 5 FEARLESS which was one of my main goals for the year. I'm glad to tick that one off, that's probably something I should have already been able to do. I'd like to move this up to 8 as the target for the rest of the year. I think 10 is still a bit far off for me.

I had a short session later on, didn't get much on that. Food processor to finish up after a few tries at that and a run of maybe 18 or so.

Nice! That's a decent variety on your 5's. You should've YOLOed a Pdx Blender at the end :D

Thanks blokes. I think I could put in a pdx blender after the spinning ducking osis. I know I could as a matter of fact because I have done it before. Not in a 5 fearless combo though. The tomahawk I find a bit hard to play out of so maybe I could try and extend the run a bit more. What I really need to do is hit something, or more than one thing into the phoenix. I have hit flip fog a few times recently, so if I can get a set out of that, that would really be something. Long way off to get a ducked set for the moment though.

I have the next couple of days of work and that is really pleasing. Even more pleasing is after those two days off, I go back in for one day, and then two more days off in Sydney. Hope to fit in a kick with the fellas up there, but the time is really filling up already. I'd really like to catch up with Ian, it's been ages since seeing him.

So Caroline was living with us for most of last year, and she moved into her own place, well a sharehouse, a few months back. It has a pool and she always says, hey come over for a swim. And I always think, oh hey that sounds nice. And today it was really hot so I called up and she was just heading to the pool so I said that sounds good, I'll be there shortly.

So I walked over (because my car is totally broken and at the mechanic, but that's a story on its own). Had a bit of a swim and then a bit of a kick after that. Was working on pdx drifters because I'm really very bad at them. Got pdx bs but not bsos which was the point of training them.

Finished with fairy ss dlo>pixie ss dlo those multiple 3 dex toe combos is something I've been putting a lot of work into in recent sessions so that was a great way to end things. Also had a 30+ string with plenty of variety.

So on the car, went out into the middle of nowhere with Nicolas and the car broke down, in an area with no phone reception. So walked up a big hill to get some reception and the car had to get towed. So that's been a fun couple of days dealing with that. We're going to Sydney this weekend so I've hired a car for that one, which seems it will work out a little cheaper than catching the bus.

Yeah the pool is quite nice. My sister actually lived in thr same complec a while back. Never got to check the pool even though we stayed there a couple of times.

In good news...the Raiders won their first gamr of the season. I saw the second half on TV. I was very nervous.

A couple of drills in the last couple of days.

magellan>dimwalk>pdx mirage rpt - this one was surprisingly tricky. Probably because I had a few beers before starting playing last night. But even today, it took me a while to get it done.

ripwalk>blur>legbeater rpt - got this one second try with not too much worry. Not too much else of note, haven't really had the time to have a proper session lately.

We had the weekend in Sydney and stayed at the Sydney Harbour YHA. It's where I won nationals in 2010 with a dropless routine, and also where we stayed on our wedding night, so it has a fair bit of meaning in my life. I didn't have too much chance to kick there, but I got a short clip up for Instagram.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BCmWo_2mIEd

I also got to catch up with Ian Pritchard, who I hadn't seen in quite some time. He was definitely a major influence in my early days of footbag. He sold me my first pair of Lavers as a matter of fact. We met back in 2001. He was a little more advanced than me, as I was only doing consecutive kicks but was very serious about it. We were a bit younger than guys like Lynton and Brendan, so they were a bit intimidating at the time.

Anyway, great to see him, haven't seen him too much since coming back from Chile because he doesn't kick too much at all these days. Off to Melbourne this coming weekend, might try and get some footbag action there too.

Had two short sessions today. One at uni, one in my break at work.

- 9 ducking osis. I was looking through an old post of Australian records, and it's better than the previous one that was on there, though I don't think they've been updated in a lot of years.

According to them though, I have beaten 3 Australian records

rev swirl (14)
ducking osis (9)
zulu butterfly (6)

I think I might have a crack at the ripwalk record, which is mid 30s, according to that. I could probably get 50 if I put in some serious effort into it.

Second session did some good 30+ contact runs, was quite happy with them. Also was very close to another 5 fearless, it was almost the same combo, but with pdx blender instead of tomahawk, just dropped that off my foot. I was using a new bag from Hania. It's not that new, I got it at Worlds, but I haven't really played with it.

In good news, my car and my bike were both broken and now they are both fixed, which is very pleasing. The car was a fair bit cheaper than expected, though still a bit of a hit. Good to be running smoothly again.

Hi mates

Wrote out a bit of a post the other day about my trip to Melbourne but I never finished it off.

So here's the shortened version.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BC1HubkGIPm

I was just going to leave it at the Instagram video but I will say a bit more - caught the bus down to Melbourne overnight. Stopped midway through and had a kick. Hired a bike when I got there and rode along the bay to St Kilda. That's where the video is from, in front of Luna Park (think Coney Island style amusement park). I kicked again on a wharf and came really close to hitting 5 fearless again. I guess 4 is ok for that time of morning after 8 hours on a bus and a while on the bike.

I decided to give up on the biking and catch the tram back into the city where I met Olly Bowman and Jordan Morrison who are both freestyle football guys. Olly has just moved over from NZ. Both of these guys have added a lot more clipper and other footbag style moves to their game. Jordan did a parkwalk with a ball, I hit one of them too. I also did spinning mirage and they were very impressed with my ducking stuff with the ball. I finished with a bit on the bag and did a ripstein to end the session.

Then I went out to party number 1. I went down to attend two parties of good friends that I have known for a long time. So this first friend is known as "Ferrit". We met in Sydney when I lived there and were both into skating and going to see bands so we became very good friends over that. He always invites me to things on Facebook which I can't go to because they're in Melbourne. But I had already committed to come to another party on the same day and this one was in the afternoon so I said why not.

As I made the journey back in the direction of Canberra I was strongly considering the why not, but also noting the poor start to the match that the Raiders were playing. He came and picked me up at the train station and we went over to his place. Had some beers, bbq and had a good chat with his wife, who is also a friend of mine from going to show is the olden days.

I said I was going to make a brief appearance here, but it seems I've got a bit of time tonight. There wasn't more footbag really in the trip, but I was lucky enough to get a lift back into the city, very close to where I was going. That one I had just left up to chance, but it ended up working really well.

The second party was for Paige, she is a very good friend of mine as well. Some years ago, she was about to move into a sharehouse just off uni, but bailed out at the last minute. Hey Dan, want to move to a place in Bruce? From there the infamous Bruce house was born. I would have hit quite a number of tricks for the first time in the driveway there.

Anyway, more beer there. It was in a cocktail bar so it probably wouldn't be a place I'd normally end up at. I also didn't know too many people so it got to about midnight and I was pretty tired so I said seeyamate but then Paige said to me, "You're not going. I know you, and you don't leave when there's a bar tab running."

And she was right. So at about 5am I was staggering back to my hostel. And not too much longer after that I was waking back up. Didn't do any footbag really but caught up with a few more friends. Actually played for a couple of minutes in the airport and did something to my leg in the process. Not really sure what.

Was great flying home after the bus trip down. Much easier. Then got a lift from there. Was thinking of walking back but that would probably take a couple of hours. So it was a successful whirlwind trip to Melbourne. Really happy to get in that kick with the freestyle guys. Awesome that they are showing a lot of footbag influence in their game too.

This week I have played a bit. Had a cool session last night in my break and got 4 fearless in that one too. Earlier in the day I was playing around with Nicolas on the balcony and doing some footbag. Decided to try an inspinning blender. Got my self tangled up and fell to the ground. Actually I guess the idea was ingyro blender because it was inspin and then action with the other leg. Doesn't matter because I didn't hit it. I fell over instead, and Nicolas came up and said "oh, poor, poor, Daddy".

I have the next couple of days off so hopefully I can get a bit of a kick in over that time. The nationals for freestyle football are in a few weeks so I will go in that.

I had a pretty good session today. Before getting to that I mowed the lawn, which has been on the to do list for quite a while so it was good to cross that off.

In a different session a few days ago I hit 43 ducking clippers. I just looked up that record list I mentioned the other day and Dan Ednie had done 43. So that's an equal record. I did 20 today in the session.

Today I did an impromptu routine to this song.

I got over 2 minutes dropless which I was pretty happy with. I have been thinking a lot about something Jon said on another post here about trying to kick for a really long time. He was saying 30 minutes which I think is currently beyond me, but I've really been working into transitioning from a little string of tricks, into some kicks, then back into tricks and kicks and getting a bit of flow on that. It seems to be improving.

Anyway. Dimwalk>pdx drifter bsos was a highlight from today. I have been doing some work on drifters lately and it's starting to show a little progress. The problem was the rest of the run was not much good. I also did 76 tiltless and about 40 guiltless. Most pleased with the impromptu routine though, as well as the general outpouring of sweat.

Had a short session in my break as well. Got this run and put it on Instagram. That double fairy was quite difficult. I've done it before but not for a long time. Just remembered a highlight from that - alpine blur>pixie motion.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BDNQUVQGIEr

Did a little with the ball today as well, nothing special but there's a comp coming up in a couple of weeks. Should be a bit of fun.
