Your foot doesn't need to be parallel with the ground in order to hit a clipper. I hit clippers with a horrible slope (due to terrible ankle crank).

You might want to try to pushing (curl) your little toes into the bottom of your shoe, this helps rotate your ankle in the clipper stall direction.

With the clipper it helps to sink the supporting leg when the bag touches the clipper foot. Everything sinks when the bag is just about to hit your foot, don't sink too early or late, you won't be able to hit a clipper if the timing isn't spot on. If you are getting roll off you might want to try catching the bag a little higher up.

To get your foot accustomed to the clipper position, walkovers and wraps are probably worth doing.

one other question, what are your inside stalls like? can you do 10 consecutive inside stalls? if not you really should give that a try.

hope that helps :)

I can't even really do an inside stall, but shouldn't a clipper technically be easier, since you don't have to hold your leg up pretty high?

But anyways, it seems like when I try and do a clipper hit, it always just goes shooting forward - because I can't keep the toe end of my foot up high enough.

my bad, I thought you meant clipper stall.

for the clipper kick you might want to try hitting the bag a bit earlier and higher if it is always "shooting forwards".

practising inside stalls will help you to build up ankle strength and flexibility, which will help clipper type moves.

I pretty sure it's a harder technique.

I'd do a clipper stall. clipper kicks are way harder imo.

I edited the title (should be fairly self explanatory)

wow Benzilla you say clipper is easier than flying clipper?, madness

Bajawoojie-To do a flying clipper its real simple, for right footed, raise left leg stick it straight out and jump off your right foot and do an inside kick with it in the air, its as simple as that. Simple xbod contact instead of a xbod stall

I think Ben meant understood it as a clipper kick, as in you don't jump when you kick it, and not a flying clipper. So it's just a XBOD inside kick. It's actually pretty fun to do in hacky circles.

I meant to say that clipper stalls are easier for me than clipper kicks. Of course back when i couldn't stall a flying clipper kick was much easier for me than either a clipper stall or kick. After learning alot of stall tricks your kicks start to disappear unless you incorporate them in your sessions.

I rarely "kick" the bag at all any more..

Ah the "lazy Jester" works very good as a snake in a circle game of elimination, high school kicking tactics.

When doing a clipper kick, make sure youre moving your foot straight up. I found that when I was learning clipper kicks, I would kick up and forward, instead of just straight up, causing the bag to fly forward.
My ankle crank sucks, BTW. My sweet spot for clipper kicks is just forward of the arch where the shoe slopes backwards.

the way i learned clipper hits was practicing the jump first. it helps to take a couple steps first, jump off the foot your hitting the bag with, the other leg getting that knee up nice and high then kinda have that leg extended out (makes it easier for the jump/kick leg to swing under), then bring under and up. after you get the feeling then start dropping the bag to the kick side and once you get some good vertical hits then try self serving a inside, kicking it nice and lofty to the clipper side and attempt! its all about the time you put into it. i and clipper hit fine and dandy but i cannot clipper stall at all :.(
