Definitely a bad move. He also didn't tell Dillinger that he was playing in Coheed, so they found out by reading it in some magazine!

Some good shows I have been to this year

just recently I saw Jungle Fever, Brick vs Face (NZ), The Wrongmen (NZ), The Seduction, Make The Most and Stand Hard at some community centre in the burbs of Melbourne. It really reminded me of what I like about hardcore.....6 bands for 8 bucks, it was organised by Brett who was the singer of Shotpointblank and now plays bass in Samsara......it was such the opposite of the shows in these totally commercialised "alernative nightclubs" which are all horrible. All the bands were a range of styles, but still fit into the "hardcore" category and all the bands generally had a message behind their music.

Brick vs Face were probably the highlight of the day...they were kind of like a cross between bands like Black Flag with a bit of rock and roll style mixed in. Most of the guys didn't look like your typical tough band dude, and it was really refreshing to see. They did a Path of Resistance cover and this guy just grabbed the mic, and it was like he was in PoR!

Some other good ones I have been to this year include Machine Head/Trivium/Archenemy. Got to hang out backstage with Machine Head after the show and drink their beer, which was pretty good.

I saw La Quiete (Italy) a while back. It was at this "community art space", also out in the suburbs of Melbourne..it was pretty crazy. The room looked like it was built for about 10 people, but there must have been 100-200 people there. People were watching through the window outside and the windows would steam up from all the sweaty people inside.

Next year is looking pretty good already for tours etc

going to Big Day Out and seeing Rage Against The Machine and Enter Shikari. Bummed I didn't get a ticket to the Rage sideshow.

hopefully going to soundwave (Alexisonfire, Incubus, Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying, The Offspring, City and Colour etc)

and I am hoping to head overseas next year, but at the moment it's not looking so good, but I really want to go to Wacken in Germany and see At The Gates and Carcass reformed.

I saw Daft Punk last night.

I can't get over them... the most ridiculous display I've ever seen. I couldn't concentrate at work. I just wanted to get out of there and put the cd on. I'd kill to be there again right now... wish I'd thought of buying tickets to the second show. The biggest mashup of all their songs... if you ever have a chance to see them, take it, whatever it costs.

Emo, heh. Anyone who uses that term in relation to music basically is an idiot, no offense Ben, I love ya. When I hear someone call a band emo, it usually means that person is musically narrow and are judging a band based of a high pitched singer, and/or music/lyrical content that isn't they're style (aka hardcore, punk, etc.) basically musical racism.

I don't really listen to Coheed myself, but they are definately not emo (if they are, rush is emo, queen is emo, get my drift?

) and they're amazing musicians, whether you like them or not. Besides, Emo music IS hardcore music now heh. The term has no real definition (in music), it's just a term used to talk shit on bands you don't like, I guess that's my point.

Oh and thanks for turning me on to dillinger escape plan. It's another generic, talentless hardcore band to completely avoid. Thanks.

James I agree things have gone out of control with labels. Frankly I don't know much about emo at all. Many other people have called C&C emo go ahead and call me a conformist for believing it. I've heard their music, I don't care for it, no matter what anyone wants to call it. Whether or not they are "emo" I couldn't care less.

We see all these genre names out there for music now, check wikipedia out if you don't believe me... emo, screamo, grindcore, indiepop, post-rock, nu-metal, fog rock... what a load of pretentious horse$#*t!!! Why do we have categorize music down to these tiny little sub-sub-genres, since when did music get so narrow and WHO CARES?

Side rant: the word "indie" has totally degenerated into what "alternative" did in the 1990s. Originally it meant something akin to "non-mainstream" but then, like "alternative", "indie" has become mainstream, even though the vast majority of the "indie"-loving populace is completely oblivious or probably just in denial about that fact.

Labels are labels. They are all opionon based. Anyone can say a certain type of music is X. It's just an opinion.

So just post about shows you've seen here. That's what this topic is. If you want to recommend an album you've heard post it in the "What are you listening to" topic. I am always looking for new shiz to check out.

I wouldnt' say Coheed are "emo", haah nor would I say I like them. But I think they are trying to do the whole "epic rock" thing, and it just comes off as a total wank.

All the current emo bands are just well paid trendy kids who don't actually express any emotions, but just sing crappy pop songs. There is general reasoning for all the different genres, but the problem is when the mainstream media gets old of a term (eg "emo") and then uses it wrongly, so suddenly, EVERYTHING is "emo".

I saw the Coheed and Cambria show and it kicked ass. Their new album isn't really that good, but it's because they borrow too much from classic metal--which has been done many times--not because they are poor musicians. There are a few gems though like Radio Bye Bye and the title track. I don't care if they're emo; no one really sounds like them. Though I don't understand the title, I suppose. I'd have to agree with James that other great rock and metal bands are emo also, if Coheed is. I thought it was about sad lyrics, but Coheed writes concepts albums. So, I don't know. Whatever you want to call it, I'll still like it. I saw Dillinger once a couple of years ago on Gigantour (I went to see Symphony X). I was bored. Pretty much every band except SX and Megadeth were screaming or growling with muddy playing; damn, find some talent up front. Not that I've never liked those vocals, but it gets old quick. I already played it out with Gothenburg bands when I was in high school. Ergo, I'm indifferent about Christ Pennie.

Didn't really enjoy Clutch for the same reason I didn't dig Coheed's new album too much, it sounded less original. They even have a song about "sticking it to the man." I'll stick with the classics if I want to hear ol' rock. It wasn't bad though.

That was the last show I went to.

I'm gonna see Coheed in April in Hamburg, Germany. I'm really looking forward to it, because I like the new album... Their third album, the first volume of Good Apollo was not that good in my opinion.

Another concert i will attend is The Mars Volta in February 08, also in Hamburg, Germany... this will kick ass!

2007 best concerts were The Fall of Troy and definately Oceansize.

faaarrrrk if you don't know who this man is you need to find out. The guy is a total nerd but that makes him really cool and a fucking genius behind the decks. Probably enjoyed that more than any other DJ I've seen before? Barring Daft Punk which is a damn given. He has so much energy too... he'd mosh a lot right before the beat dropped in so it made me mosh a lot too hehe. He was so fucking intense though... god damn, wish I could see him again, now...

funny as we were walking out to get some energy drinks before his set... as we walk out he walks in and the bouncer's like "where's your armband?" he just goes "no armband" and keeps walking Laughing really bizarre though, they had this shitty minimal DJ on before him. I mean if it's sunday arvo and i'm sitting back in a bar then that's all fine, but I'm in a club, it's 1am and I want to fucking dance ok?? Zabiela played 2-6 and it was completely light when we got to bed... that's a sign of a good night.

I FRIGGIN' MET DON ROSS LAST NIGHT

He is by far one of the best guitarists/composers of all time. And not to mention my hero. He's the only ever 2 time winner of the American Fingerstyle Championships. This is regarded as one of the most prestigeous awards in the world of guitar.

I sat front row in awe for like 2 and half hours. He even dedicated the encore to me. He's playing in Durham, Ontario, Canada on March 7th, and I'm deffinately going to see him again.

And then in May I will be attending a weekend-long fingerstyle guitar workshop at his house; and not only will Don Ross be teaching, but also Antoine Dufour, who won the same award in 2006 I believe.

They are both on candyrat records if anyone is interested in guitar music. The roster on this label is just mind boggling!

Saw The Mars Volta yesterday and they were awesome. Really nice Setlist, great performance, whilst sound and light techniques were amazing

they played 150min.... so they were really worth the money...every cent of it. great band.
