Today's rap or hiphop, is GARBAGE!!!
My god. I've completely given up on any kind of hiphop on the radio. I just heard the most STUPID god damn "song" (If you can even call it that.) on the radio. I don't remember who it was, and I don't remember the name of the song, because I frankly just don't care enough to waste the memory space in my fantastical brain.
But the one part of the song, that just won't stop playing in my head, is what made me snap, turn off my radio and rip off the power button, and a tunning dial... Here it is. "I'm hot cause I'm fly, you ain't, cause you not." How... fuckin-dumb is THAT!!! What kind of shitty god damn writting is that? First off, you're NOT hot by any means, you're just loaded. Secondly, no matter how much I hate the word "fly", it still means that god damn same thing as "hot". And thirdly. Ain't, is not a fucking word, I know people say that alot. But the only genre of music the word "ain't" works in, is country. Because their stupid voices match with the stupid word. And ain't, though it's not a word, means the same fuckin' thing, AS NOT!!! Fuckin' IDIOT.
When I heard that chorus line... I just... became really stupid for a full 10 minutes and forgot how to speak in a comprehensible language, and I couldn't count out the money for the caramel-coffee drink I had just ordered in the StarBucks drivethrough, because I forgot how to count. It was like driving into Iowa... Your cross the border, and you forget how to drive and go into a ditch, or on-coming traffic, and you FEEL the knowledge just, flee from your brain.
Anyone else just despise all these new wannabe rappers? I also really hate that "Money in the Bank" song... It's like, wow, congrats, you have money, who cares? You have no talent, so... what are you doing? It's so pointless. It's not even good music to dance to if you ever go to a really shitty place to dance...
Bah, it just pisses me off...

Yes, it does. It makes it hard to introduce real hiphop to people that dont like the radio shit. My ex gf, hates the shit played on the radio. And I was trying to get her to check out Blackalicious, just once, and she wouldn't even give a chance for the longest time just because of the name of the group. But Blackalicious, Visionaries, Hilltop Hoods, that's real hiphop. Really good hiphop too. Now she listens to it just as much as her Carrie Underwood... (I hate country.) Eminem and Dr. Dre... I really hate their new crap... It's so... fake. Their underground was really good rap.
Why is today's music so tastless and, just, plain, shitty? And why is it, that when a new band comes out, that actually sings about SOMETHING, (not fuckin' drugs, sex, money, and god damn basketball (Ballin'... dumb.)), they get shit on by ignorant asswipes that can't comprehend good music... It's so wrong.

Dude I thought a smiliar thing 17 years ago when you were still in diapers. Back in the MC hammer days of 1990.
The kind of rap you are talking about is the kind that is selling records these days, and it's unfortunate I agree. That doesn't mean it's only the type of hiphop/rap that's being made today. There are plenty of artists who aren't doing that style of rap, their music just isn't mainstream. Now I'm not really into hip hop, but the one example that comes to mind is a Tribe Called Quest. I'm sure people who are little more familiar with underground hip hip could cite plenty of other examples.
I think the problem is that the mainstream media and record companies are selling absolutely CRAP music these days, across all genres, but who can blame them when crap music is what sells. They always have to some degree, it's just continually gotten worse. Rap is a good example of that, I agree that mainstream rap has gone downhill, but so has mainstream rock (maybe not as much, but that's relatively subjective). So I don't think I'm in any position to doubt that good, artistically valuable rap is being made independently all over the place, because I know that is happening with rock.
Personally I don't listen to the radio anymore cuz I can't stand a damn thing on it. I go to live shows and samples band's mp3s on the internet to find music that I like. If I find something I like, I go buy it. It gives me the power to listen to music that I like and want to hear instead of letting some huge media conglomerate with a bunch of marketing wizards tell me what music I should listen to. Some sheeple like to have their decisions made for them, like what music to listen to, that's why the recording industry is still in business.
BTW, Switch Kicker, do you ever make positive posts? Or do you just sit around talking, writing and thinking about how everything sucks? That's not a fun way to go through life dude. Sometimes your negativity really gives me a rash, man. It wouldn't hurt to say something positive once in a while.

Not to turn a brilliant discussion sour, but :
BLAM!
When you said: "And ain't, though it's not a word, means the same fuckin' thing, AS NOT!!! Fuckin' IDIOT," you made me think, "Wow, now he must be the frikkin idiot if he doesn't even know that "ain't" means is not or am not!"
As in,
I ain't happy= I am not happy.
He ain't fly= He is not fly.
About the rap, I totally agree. Much of todays mainstream rap has degenerated into such total crap that I haven't seriously bothered listening to a hip hip radio station in several years.

Yeah, seriously. I can't imagine anything intelligent coming out of that state.Switch Kicker wrote:It was like driving into Iowa... Your cross the border, and you forget how to drive and go into a ditch, or on-coming traffic, and you FEEL the knowledge just, flee from your brain.
They aren't exactly required to make music that you enjoy. There is plenty of good music out there so long as don't expect it to be fed to you.

Lol, I was actually thinking, "You know... Wolfpac is gonna respond this...", and I'm not kidding. Lol. It's just a joke though. I have Iowa friends that rip on me for being from MN, and we Minnesotans rip on Iowa... ins. Iowegians? Iowanese? Idk.wolfpac444 wrote:Yeah, seriously. Uhhh, I was recently promoted to E-3 (Private First Class) for scoring over 300 on my Physical Training (PT) test. (300's a perfect score.) And I get a nice raise, and 4 months worth of E-3 backpay on my next direct deposit... That positive enough for ya? lol.Iron Clad Ben wrote:BTW, Switch Kicker, do you ever make positive posts? And I did just make this topic...
http://www.modified.in/footbag/viewtopi ... highlight=
Though i didn't expect any conversation to abrupt from it, I was just bored and felt like explaining what my plans were for going to Spiderman 3.
Eh, the only reason I posted this was because I forgot my iPod at home today and had to drive to work, not have it for 8 hours at work, then drive home without it. All the meanwhile listening to the fucking gay ass radio simply because it was able to provide a beat...PegLegHolly wrote:i feel this way with any music on the radio in my area. there is this one independant radio station here run by college kids, and its awesome... but anything else is just something put together to please the mediocre(sp?).Switch Kicker wrote:My god. I don't ever listen to the radio unless it's the only thing I have. But I have a pretty massive iTunes library, uhhh... 8,413 songs to be exact. There's probably a good 100-150 songs that are saved on there twice though. I copy all my friends music, and I've got a very diverse, and culturally differing group of friends. One guy's a Led head, the other loves RJD2, the other loves underground hip hop, my sisters love punk rock, my buddy Dan has a massive library of Beethoven and the likes. I haven't listened to a forth of the shit on my computer, lol.I just have it... to have it... Only put 1,388 of those songs on my iPod.
Another song that I heard today, because my manager's iPod was being used today... and this ditzy dumb ass bimbo changed the song, was that "Do the Step" song...
Snap your fingers, and do the step. You can do it all by yourself... (A few lines later) I do it so good, I don't need nobody else.
Right there, I personally, would take the fact that I'm dancing by myself, as a hint, that I'm a really bad fuckin' dancer... It's not like the ladies are saying, "OMG, look how good he snaps his fingers, and steps... He does it so good... I don't want to dance with him." This scenario runs through my head, EVERY time, I hear even the beat to this song...
Another one that pisses me off... "Do it do it do it", you know that song. Around the end I think, some dude's listing off all the things he does, and one of them, "...I clap my hands..." is just so, pointless. I'm just like, ok, so you clap your hands, and what? The lights turn off? Guess what, I can clap my hands too, but I don't get paid 200 grand to do it, so why the hell should you?
Mainstream "rap" blows donkey dick.

Switch Kicker, you never fail to impress. Your complete lack of respect for the simplicity and utter brillance of MIMS is disgusting. You're telling me you cannot find the deeper meaning behind his song "This is why I'm hot"? What do millions of 14 year old white kids get that you don't?
Considered a modern opus of rap artistry, "This is why I'm hot" (hereby TIWIH), is a tasty delight in the modern rap world. Now don't get my wrong, I do love the "skeet skeet skeet", but there is something touching when MIMS spouts, "i represent new york, i got it on my back niggas". A shout out to his boys only rivaled in quality by this verse, "24 a pop 44 a song nigga gimme watchu got im in thea drivin cars".
Perhaps this song is above you, which I don't really doubt. It is obvious you cannot uncover the deeper meaning behind this modern classic. You see, MIMS here is protesting abortion, the war in Iraq, and global warming all at the same time. A bit much for your one track mind, but you have to focus to understand the song.
(Chorus)
this is why im hot, this is why im hot, this is why, this is why, this is why, im hot this is why im hot, this is why im hot, this is why, this is why, this is why im hot
The above is a deliberate call to Al Gore and his global warming propaganda. What the rapper (from here on reffered to as the artist) is trying to say is, "this is WHY I'm hot". Note, the artist does not give a reason, referring to a bigger picture, a larger issue. He is hinting at the polar ice caps melting, further reinstated when he says "I'm hot cuz I'm fly, you ain't cuz your not", which is a direct allusion to his place on the equator and the location of his hood. He is "reppin' new york", thus he will not be sunk like low land levels such as Florida or any other beach type areas.
Further in the masterpiece is the line, "i tell em all aboard we hit da studio, they say they like how i record i go from black train". All aboard is obviously hinting at the boat that will save them all from the global warming sea level raise. Black train is open to debate, but most rap scholars think MIMS is hinting at the massive amounts of coal that came out of the ground in the late 50's.
Now I listen to a lot of modern rap, but this rhyme really stuck out as classic: "den cums da gear so when i hit da room, da shorty's stop and stare niggas start to hate". No one can put it like MIMS. When the shorty's stop to respect his gear, you can visualize it, almost taste it.
Conclusion: This song, and most modern rap is just too complex for you, and obviously most of this forum. If you can't see the artistry in "Throw some D's on that bitch" or "This is why I'm hot" you don't know music, and you don't know the struggle that these rappers speak of.
Next time you listen to the radio really LISTEN. You obviously aren't.

Today's society is garbage because it's an end result of capitalism. So everything you get now days from music to tshirt brands, anything that has to do with 'American pop culture' will be so watered down and mainstream in order to fit into the minds of rich teenage girls. Cuz they're the ones buying everything. No one cares about the brooding post nineties artists or someone that wants to get 'deep'. If you want deep, start checkin out more indy artists that aren't doing it for the money. Or better yet, make your own music.
One thing that pisses me off is skate and surf clothing. I hate that there's all those damn PacSun stores that carry woot 3 brands of clothing: Billabong, Quicksilver, and Rusty or that one the F whatever it is...Back IN MY day lol we had a million different cool skate and surf companies all makin sweet shirts. "So why don't you make your own shirts shredzilla?" I have. I used to make cool graffiti shirts for myself to wear. I don't think I'd want to mass produce them because it seems pretty difficult to break into the biz these days. Why? Cuz everyone's buying watered-down 'teen pop' crap that I would have no interest in making.
Anyway the bottom line is, you live in a CORPORATE country where the only thing that you're gonna get is what Bill Gates and his 15 year old rich niece think is cool. And you're gonna pay way more than what you should for it. Unless you go deeper, or make your own.
