I have a new hd camera and editor, and just wanted to know if anyone else is into editing vids

yo. ok hold up:

video is an art form
it can be used needlessly
or it can serve a purpose
purport a meme (spread an idea)

my biggest advice is
whatever you learn
no matter how good you get
please try and better the world
and the lives of those around you
whether in close proximity
or a global scale

as far as technique
if you go find the worship the sack thread
there is some talk about cam technique there
i can post more later but im busy

take care and good luck

Filming footbag:

Variation is key!

Try different angles, locations, zooming, moving etc.
Look at some of the best footbag videos (Sam's is a good example) he uses variation all the time.

Think about what kind of tricks looks cool in what kind of filming.
For example: Spinning looks cool from above, shuffle looks cool up close..

But my best tip is to just look at the footbag videos you like and see what they do.
Check out videos by Kevin Regamey, Mads Hole, Ellis Piltz and Mr. QuantumBalance..

I gonna post some more sometime..

Lol. Mr.

:)

Thanks man, I didn't have it in me to give any advice right now.

I will say this. I've seen good bag following and shitty bag following. Also, there is something that isnt quite bag following, but is focused where the bag peaks, with no up and down camera movement. Its all in the first 10 minutes of worship the sack.

and heres that bit I referred to earlier
Yo!! I just figured out the quantification of my new camera technique that I used in most of this video.

Its the zooms man!! By zooming in and out sorta randomly during filming shred or basically anything, the viewing eye is presented with different depths of view into the scene. The different focal distances gives the brain different perspectives of what is going on. It's like you walked up and took a closer look when I zoom in. It's like you took in more of the surroundings when I zoom out. But you still focus on whatever you want to focus on, so having the different close and far perspectives quickly and possibly on the beat or so all within a single action or thought process will make the brain feel like it has more perspectives and therefor more information and therefor the sensation of veiwing is more real.

GYEAH!

The video is very good, but I don't like your new video technique, because all the time there is "lower body shred", you know a lot of asses and stuff, and I prefer shred vids were you can see "full bodies" at least often, and faces sometimes , but thats just my opinion.
The movie has really great atmosphere.
I have to agree with this. I like what I do, but I should have got more faces, and interspearced more full bodies. This is important.

Also it is an important lesson that no matter how much you learn, you can always improve in many dimensions.

But hey Shredzilla its funny you said
Quote:
The interview with Jorden's dad was awesome. Like, you should really try to get on TV doing interviews, cuz I thought you were that good. A lot like Elis in that way, but I felt you really just nailed the interviewing in the movie, and you make people feel comfortable about talking to the camera, which is amazing.

because I did some BAD INTERVIEWS dude. I mean like.. I was interrupting people when they hadnt even stopped talking. I was like.. speaking too much and not being able to phrase questions. I have never interviewed before.. but I did a lot of interviews so after like 20 I felt like I got pretty good at it.
so, if doing interviews, ask a question, shut up and listen, even if they pause, it could be for thinking, they might say more, good answers are fragile. u will develop an intuition

--

what else

ok when u have cams in peoples face it makes them uncomfortable.
so when that happens put it down and talk to them in person
let them know your intentions and make them feel comfortable

its def an art in so many ways

Buy a fish-eye lense!
This also is for variety. Mixing up fish-eye and normal shots looks great.
One of the cheapest lenses that still gets great results is by Kenko. It runs about $50.
Videos with all fish-eye footage video sucks in my opinion.
Sample of what fish-eye lens' does: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Cx-GTXQLF6A

Oh yeah check out this guys videos: http://frenchfred.com/
He is fucking amazing!

He also has some good fish-eye / long-lense samples.

Personally Im not down with the fish eye lense.. but you can get wide angle lenses that increase the field of veiw without circular distortions.

1.00 would be normal and the lower it goes like .50 is wide angle.. and it changes to fish eye around .42 or less. im guessing here. I think I had a .42 which was the widest angle without fisheye.

Thats what I recomend.
