Drum And Bass

Post by Donovon » 19 May 2010 08:34

Can anyone point me in the direction of some quality Drum and Bass music. realized that Ive really like a lot of DnB that Ive heard and my interested was sparked, to say the least.
Im really into the more live DnB than the DJ mixing, but its all good, lol.

Yay! Drum n bass.
Getting to know music is always an independent process so I guess I'll just list some of the more mainstream/popular artists along with some of my personal favourites to let you decide yourself.

Starting with some of the more popular ones:

Pendulum
Sub Focus
Black Sun Empire
State of Mind
Phetsta

From there I guess you will find many similar artists from the related videos on youtube.

As for me I'm more into liquid dnb which means a deeper and more "emotional" sound on the whole. These are some of my favourites:

Netsky
Bachelors of Science
DJ Marky
Ultima C
Bcee & Lomax

Hope this was even a little helpful

Personally, most "DnB" artists get real boring real fast. They tend to have the same structures, textures, and overall tonality. I'm still a sucker for the beats though. I prefer the artists that take the amen break in a different, personal direction. If you like drum and bass, you should check out artists such as Squarepusher, Venetian Snares, U-ziq, and of course Aphex Twin. :P

a few summer's back I used to always kick to Black Sun Empire.

With what Habitat is saying, Squarepusher's 'Dragon Disk 2' album is fun to kick to.

cmon Jeremy? I am kinda old school and when I was raving, drum and bass/jungle was still new. Back in 93 the dnb dj was relegated to a dark room with not too many people. But there was a big dnb scene in chicago, with lots of guest djs too. I hope you werent serious calling that dnb Jeremy...

edit - im not into the terms. but what I like and consider jungle/breakbeat/drum and bass is obviously different than you. there is a different beat to dnb.
the music you posted was generic club music, someone please post up some drum and bass?

I'm not familiar with "DnB" as a music genre in general (from what I read on this is sounds more electronic/house based) but I'm a drummer and percussion is about 75% of what I listen to in music, so if you're looking for some bands with some epic drummers, I may be able to help you out

personally, I reaaaallly like ska/reggae music to drum to, it's s'damn funt o play with. One of the best drummers I've been listening to non-stop as of late is Streetlight Manifesto (check out "we will fall together" to have you mind blown)
another band I saw recently who has one of THE most unique drummers I've heard is Maps & Atlases. I've never seen anyone untilize a kit the way he does, it's amazing
