Andrew, you gotta take your balls out of your purse and step up to the season!!

I just put my old fender on and a few (MANY) extra layers and I am winter ready!

It's my goal to do my brutal 7AM bike ride to work all winter long.

For sure.

I usually don't even know what place I came in (9th out of 16 in my last one) the real fun is just participating.

It's such a crazy rush!!!

I've been having alot of fun on my fixed gear lately.

It seems I couldn't resist and I've gone and invented some pretty crazy tricks.

Check this one out, I haven't told the fixed community about it yet though...

I am riding along, quicksilver jump off the back leaving my bike ghostriding, I run along side of it and then JUMP over my rolling bike, land and run to catch up to the bike and get back on! hahah

My new goal is to hit this new flip I learned called sideflip OVER the bike!

I want a sweet picture of a serenely rolling ghostbike with me in the air upside down over top of it. haha

side flips are sweet! A guy from my boarding school who also was into tricking used to do cartwheel > side flip > cartwheel > sideflip > ..

Sorry about off topic.

That's me and my track bike.

I have it set up a little different now though, no more super riser stem and the bars are flipped back up the normal way. Also I destroyed the rear tire so now I have some crap cheapo thing on and a fender for winter guck.

I am home in a handful of hours, I can't wait to take it out for a rip!

A fixed gear bicyclist was killed in Santa Cruz a few days ago. He wasn't wearing a helmet while was going down hill and a truck turned right onto a street in front of him. It's unclear if the truck hit the guy or if the guy fell while trying to avoid the truck (I don't get how they can't tell from looking at the bike/body injuries) but the people on the news were going after fixed gear bikes like they were the devil because they don't have brakes. It was ridiculous how many times they emphasized that and how they only have one gear. Then they finally had a person on who knew something about bikes who said the guy should have been wearing a helmet and should not have been going down hill. It doesn't mean he deserved to die, but the guy said that fixed gear biking is a skill that needs to be developed before taking on any kind of dangerous situation. I hadn't known anything about fixed gear bikes before that.

If you start to read the news, watch the news or read bike forums it is rather depressing how many cyclist have died or have been seriously injured. in the past 2 years regardless of bike, helmet, no helmet, who was at fault, accident or malicious. I remember reading an article awhile back about a guy who got shot by a pellet gun while riding home from work in Portland, one shot was inches away from being fatal or paralyzing (I'll see if i can find it again.)

Yeah, there seems to be an idea that there is absolutely no way to brake on a fixed gear bike, and that's not true.

Sadly, I've become disenchanted by my fixed gear. I climb big hills and do longer rides now and it just doesn't make as much sense as when I was riding to school and back. I think my next purchase will be a road bike, gears and all. I just hope I won't have to sell my fixed gear to fund that decision.
