Server Switch - Taking the Forum Offline For a Few Hours

Post by Allan » 13 Jun 2014 20:36

Yo.

I'm going to be moving the forum from one server to another this weekend and I need to take things offline for a few hours to do it.

Unless something goes wrong, I'll be doing this tomorrow morning at some point. I'll be taking the site offline and then flipping the DNS around. In some places it might take upwards of 12 or so hours (but in most places it should only be 1-2) for the switch to take effect such is the nature of DNS.

Any questions?

I should post a video as a placeholder. Any thoughts on which one?

Has this happened already?

Yes, it's happened already :) We're running on an SSD-based Ubuntu 14.04 box in Amsterdam with 2GB RAM and 2 CPUs. We're the only site on the box :) Does it seem faster to anyone?

Now that you mention it, yeah, it's a lot quicker.
