i had a little chat with a knowledgeable source on this issue recently and he said that it was always a big hassle to figure out the overall champ due to a long and complicated formula and having to tabulate results for more than just the top 10 finishers let's say. That being said, and in response to Tsiangkun's post above, the formula took into account the number of competitors faced in each event when deciding how many points the winners of a particular event would receive. So, the winner of the footbag golf competition might only receive 8 points if the number of competitors was 30, whereas the winner of the freestyle routines might win 13 points if the number of competitors was about 57.
My name: Jeremy Mirken, AKA Chocolatey Shatner, AKA jerk enemy rim.

I kick it with trunk chef elf and liz luck key my.

old timers have a way of making simple math sound like NASA work.

We aren't trying to send a paper clip 9 million light years through space
so that it strikes the reset button on a satellite to force a reboot on
the crashed machine.

Even with their system as you described it :

Number of competitors is a constant and known before competition starts.

Points per event is a constant and known before competition starts.
(Alternatively it's variable, as a function of the number of competitors.
Still makes it a number that can be calculated before the comp starts )

How those points are distributed amongst places is able to be calculated from the above, before the competition starts.

I think we are still looking at a situation where a table can be prepared before competition starts that lists points per placement per event.

Print it big. Write down the names in the slots as they are filled in.
Use the '+' button on the calculator to determine the winner.

Oh the math, it's too hard !
