SWITCH

Post by wicked » 25 Nov 2002 18:39

Who out there likes calling moves on your "weak side" flipside? I think having "SIDE" as part of the word like "flipSIDE" or "weakSIDE" implys that there R good and bad sides.. How bout just calling the unattural move "switch" like in skateboarding, wakeboarding, etc..

Then u can say I hit that move swich. Or ask, can you hit it switch? Or ive got my whirling swirls switch. Ive been noticing people have been saying i hit that "flip" without saying "side" after "flip" anyway.. Dont get me wrong, I love flipside in comparison to Weakside, but it just kinida sounds like a fish out of water or something... It's flip... i dont know is it just me??????? A couple other guys ive talked to like the sound of Switch. Im just gonna start callin it that.

What do u think

I'd say both are acceptable. I say flip now, I'll stick with that because it's what I'm used to.

Switch is a skateboarding term.

We already have too many of those imported into this sport (i.e., back/frontside, crooked etc...)
i like to kick the little footbag thing around and move my legs around it and stuff

yea but the whole fronside backside thing doesn't apply to triple dexes so the whole concept is faulty (when considering symposium)... and as far as adopting skating terms for use in footbag, did u not know that Osis is originally a frisbee move along with dada curve which was invented and named by kenny shults?

frontside and backside can be used for triples. pandemonium is backside pigbeater. eggbeater is a single motion set of dexterities. symp pixie set eggbeater would be frontside pigbeater.

i like flipside. im used to it too.

Yeah most triple dex moves can be dissected into frontside and backside because moves like eggbeater can only be frontside symposium (or else it would be simple).

So any set to a symposium eggbeater would automatically make the move backside symposium.

Moves that couldn't be discected into frontside and backside would be blurry blur and the like.

The way to make those kind of moves front and backside symposium would be to say fontside blurry blur, or blurry frontside/backside blur.

IT IS ALL ABOUT THE WEAKSIDE!!! Swich works to just as long as it's not flipside.

No self-respecting styler could call my WEAKside Pixie set anything but WEAK!! I think you have to at least be able to hit the trick before you can call it your Switch or Flip or whatever. Until then, it is the Weakside. Or how about Dark Side?

DarkSide does sound kind of cool... I gotta give Kenny props for hanging on the board too man.. it's just so cool that in our sport we can hang with the big guys without worrying that it's some fat lady with glasses and pimples (no offense guys) imitating our favorite guys.

woa darkside? thats actually kinda catchy.... I agree with kenny - some moves are weak (especially pixie moves), and deserved to be called so. Not all my unnatural side moves are weak and thats why i like switch. I usually hate saying side after everything like weakside, flipside, etc. but with darkside it works.
Who knows. Maybe what we call our opposite side will keep evolving like the sport itself and people will keep coming up with new footbag slang.

what about leaving this flip weak dark side stuff out. the trick is the same. if you hit it "flipside" you can say, you can do the trick on both sides. i prefer that version: before having hit the trick flipside, you should say: i can only do the trick "halfside"...or something else like that.

acoording to what Sacktreter said, how about this: saying "I hit *move name*" means "I can do it on both sides" while saying "I hit half a *move name*" means having mastered the trick only on one side. I think a one-sided move is only half the trick.
