Green Cup Routines: Top 3 Final routines posted

Post by C-Fan » 30 May 2011 18:13

Very high level of routines at Green Cup this weekend. Here are the routines I got from Day 1. Evan's routine was just beautiful; it was his first time going dropless.

not impressed. Props for everyone for trying. But really. It looked like half of you fluffed through at least half of your routines. Style doesn't mean pregnant pauses. I can't do any better. Lets see some uniques, some hard moves. Lets see some solidity. I'm not the one to bring it. But I'm not competing in footbag tournaments. Lets have our base line down before we enter a national competition. I'm all for footbag, but look at European comps.

Now I wouldn't really go to that extent, granted you do have a couple good observations Grizzly but In my opinion footbag is more than comparisons to other players and focusing on having the most shredalicious moves. To me footbag is about growth and most importantly FUN!! I'm sure every one in these routines had fun with it and as long as I can see them busting out moves I cant do yet idc how many drops or pauses I see, I enjoy watching. Sure practice to perfect moves is an essential part of footbag but it all comes with time.

Not to try and shoot your comment to the ground or anything, I just feel these guys deserve a lot of credit for having the courage to perform their routines at whatever level they are currently.

Great job to everyone. Keep up the awesome work :D
Why circle jerk when you can circle kick??

Thanks everybody for watching and posting. Taking the time to film, edit, upload to YT, and then post here isn't easy, especially when you're also competing. So it means a lot to me that people watched them, even if they weren't big fans of the content.

My last post was a bit harsh. It is an incredibly difficult sport. Perfection can't be the standard. Props to everyone who represented.

Not picking on the Grizzly here, I actually agree with him somewhat, though not how he said it (for a couple of the routines). I just love the suggstion that Gandhi posted something in modified.in, the Pride of India of all places

I didn't really even try. I didn't plan on doing routines for this event. You can just go ahead and skip watching mine, and save those precious moments of your life. I like how when I do a horrible routine it's posted, but the USOpen routine I did last year (which I tried very hard, and was probably my best routine ever) never sees the light of day. Such is life.
Also, I skipped out and didn't even compete the second day.
Major props to everyone at the event. Jay, Ken, Evan, you are super inspiring! And Brian Bear wins the iron man award for shredding so much over the whole weekend. He hit some nasty links!
And Chris Dean had his break out tournament, watch out for that guy, he was on fire.
Much Love

Grizzly, I hear what you're saying but a player has to enter in many competitions before he can make a good showing. It's very different getting up in front of judges and your peers than it is playing by yourself, and the only way to get better is to gain actual experience. Saying "don't compete unless you can go huge" is self-defeating.

Speaking for myself, that's the first routine I've ever really planned out since I have never been very interested in doing routines in the past. I knew it wasn't going to be world-class. All the fluff and pauses were intentional because I wanted to drop as few times as possible, and I'm going to have to compete in large tournaments and do poorly and embarrass America multiple times before I'm comfortable throwing down bigger stuff onstage.

For me, my routine was just a way to get some practice. I didn't really think my performance was video worthy except for my own reviewing.

also i think you should be harsh in your criticism if that's what you think. it's better than saying "props" and nothing else.

I completely agree.

To clarify my Gandhi comment from earlier: yes I was being tongue in cheek, but there was also a kernel of seriousness there too. I did routines for nearly 10 years before they were even close to presentable. Not saying I'm great at them now, but as Chris Dean pointed out, it takes a long time to even get competent at them. So when I suggested that Grizzly raise the level of routines by competing himself, I was actually serious.

Chris and Justin: I know these weren't your best routines, but since I filmed them, I thought you'd like to see them. Let me know through PM if you want me to remove them from this thread, or even from YouTube.

I'll try and upload Day 2 routines tomorrow.

Thank you everybody for watching. :)

Everyone had fun-looking routines in my opinion. Evan's was superb, and definitely my favorite, though. It really stood out.. Really cool music choice for that one too.

I felt bad for Justin when I watched his, but I know it would have looked great if he had pulled off those butterfly kicks> spinning-something-or-others in perfect sync with the music... That was really suspenseful.

Brian.. I thought this was a great routine too. You pull off osii and spinning tricks like no one else can. It had a sorta slowish start (aside from gyro dyno> mob, that was gnasty), but I could tell you were really feeling it around the 51 second mark. Sick stuff.

Jay, props on the dropless routine! Great stuff. I looked like you really practiced that one. Even if I hadn't seen that the video said "dropless routine", I would have guessed it from the first handful of tricks. Total control.

Chris, love the density of your routine. Also love the flapper delays you included. And the ripstein from frozen clipper... and the symp whirling swirl (just hit that for my first time earlier today :P)... Awesome choice of tricks all together. Even though you dropped a few times, you could really see how much fun you were having while performing (and the double attempt to get the bag on your foot was awesome. After you failed the first time, you kind of smiled, then got it on your foot and kept going. I can really respect that).. You certainly did Gogol Bordello justice...

Ken, awesome awesome awesome. When I previewed the video to see what it was called, I was pulling for you that it would say "Green Cup: Ken Somolinos... Dropless Routine". SO CLOSE on this one! I actually yelled at my computer when the bag dropped. Really good show, man.

Wish I could have seen these in person... Maybe next year... Props to all who showed up and did their part to keep footbag fun and lively...
