WWWWOOORRLLDDSS

Alright, clearly by the lack of moisture in my loins, it can be seen that there is not yet enough worlds hype. Like, I am not sure about you party people, but everyday at work when I'm pushing through some menial task, my brain is on "Holy pegasus, I get to go to Oakland, hang out with the cool kids, eat glorious amounts of food, and walk barefoot inbetween my hotel room, and the event site. BAREFOOT.

I say, to solve this hype issue, we get the Stanford club to run some errands for us.

1.) Get hype machine.
2.) Make flyers with Juho's face on it, captioned "mhmm, you'll get a taste of this sunshine" (underneath worlds info). They need to be on glossy paper.
3.)Plop the hype machine in downtown oakland, and pump out hundreds of these flyers blairing "What is love?", This is not optional. However, a lightshow would be nice.

Once all the locals get wind of this, we will have the perfect amount of everything necessary for hype. We just need to ask all attending to listen to that song four times a day, watching Lon footage, and we are golden...

HYPE, this is thre BEST week of the year. ERIK CHAN.

Is there anyway you could tell us even the "proposed" schedule so that we could schedule things around it that we want to do while we are there?

And once registrations complete are you going to post seeding?

The seeding as always will be based heavily on the results from recent and past tournaments in each discipline, as well as on expert judgment employed by me and my staff (which includes most of the top minds in the sport today).

For those who aren't completely familiar with how these things work -- there's one concept that is "ranking" which as you know many people are interested in and working on. Seeding is similar to (and based on) ranking, but is defined as the predicted outcome of the event in question, comparing each person to all the other players who are registered.

For example, we all know that some players don't compete but if they did, they'd blow away the competition. It would be silly to give a player we all know is likely to get top-8 a seed that is somewhere in bottom 32 just because the player didn't earn any ranking points in the last 5 years. This is especially important as we have new players coming into the sport each year, and their ranking may not yet match their ability. And of course, some players can't make it out to events and earn ranking points, but we all know if they did they'd probably win (or do very well).

So the idea is that a panel of freestyle experts comes up with their predicted results for the event, based on all the factors they have at their disposal, and then generates an ordered list of players based on that. However, it can't be purely based on opinion -- there must also be facts involved. So if a player has competed head-to-head with another player multiple times recently and in the past, and has consistently outperformed that player in the given discipline, they will have earned a higher seed as a result (in most cases). But this only works when there is "head-to-head" data to compare two players.

In an ideal world, we'd share the seeding well in advance, and ask for input, and have meetings to discuss etc. However, in this case, we'll probably do an abbreviated seeding and will not necessarily share the results publicly until we are ready to announce the order of players, etc. (Then the seedings will be obvious.)

As for when -- we certainly plan to have the final seeding and final order of players ready at check-in. For the first year ever, we're hoping to give each player all the information they need about their first round of competition (down the precisely what time they will compete on the first day of each of their events).

But because people do unfortunately scratch in the days leading up to Worlds, we reserve the right to "re-flow" the pools if enough people scratch out. But when we have it, we will certainly share the draft pools and order of play and then confirm it at check-in for each player.

Because we are requiring all players to be finalized and paid by July 18th (this Sunday), it allows us to kick off the seeding and pool-making process immediately thereafter. So it's even possible we'll have it done before U.S. Open, however, we will want to take those results into account in doing the final seeding, and thus may not publish the pools until just before the event begins.

As for who's working on this, it is the core IFPA World Championships freestyle staff this year: me, Wiktor Debski, Ianek Regimbald, Allan Haggett, Szymon Kalwak, Mike Hansen, Kevin Regamey, Vojta Polak (working on this remotely, not attending in person unfortunately), and probably several others I have forgotten. :-)

Thanks for your interest. Please again if you're competing and haven't paid, if you don't pay, you won't play. If anyone's having trouble finalizing their registration for any reason, please contact me privately (don't PM me, please e-mail my well-known e-mail address). Thanks.

Hey, Johnny -- and everyone else who's coming but hasn't registered -- it would be super awesometown if you registered so "we" know you're coming. Right now I have this strong feeling that about 30% of you Modified rats are coming but not registered so we don't know you're coming.

It'd really really really really really help us to have you on the roster.

Among other things, it helps us make sure we have the right number of T-shirts and the right break-down of sizes. It would of course even help us out more if folks pay the non-competitor fee of US $40 online in advance (you have about 5 hours left to do that as I post this). That way you get your player pack prepared in advance and guaranteed with your right shirt size and you guarantee a smooth/fast check-in just to pick up your player pack and sign the waiver.

So yeah, it would be sweet if you and everyone would go now and register online as non-competitors (or as competitors but you only have a few hours for that).

The registration deadline of tonight at midnight California time is just for competitors. All non-competitors can register until the day before Worlds starts, and then pay the $40 at check-in any time during the week. But please consider registering and paying now since that would be the best thing for all of us.

Thanks.
