Worlds 09 updates / photos!

Post by mc » 17 Jul 2009 03:12

I am in McDonalds, about 5 minutes walk from the east side hotel. It's a 24 hour mcdonalds and I've paid 30 euros for a month of wireless internet access (even though I'm only here a week) so I'll be able to come down here and take care of keeping you all posted...

I haven't met any other baggers yet or done anything bag-related, but here are some pictures that I've taken so far of my first hour in Berlin...

I encourage others to add to this thread!

Right now I am watching a little boy in a bike seat pick his nose. Glad to see that the younger generation is keeping the dream alive...

Tic-Tac container I found on the ground. I'm going to use it to hold panels. Last time I got a new tic-tac container to carry stitching stuff was worlds 07.

Very nice. The graffiti across from the hotel is really psychadelic! 8O

Will there be a ustream link sometime during Worlds?

we miss you buddy :( you should just host it one of these years, then you wouldn't miss the fun ;)

so apparently the "psychedelic graffiti wall" I mentioned is the longest remaining stretch of the berlin wall, and the hotel we're staying at is right exactly in a zone where you would have been shot 20 years ago. Wild!

So, there was supposed to be a park session today, but anssi, jay, macro and I showed up and there was only 2 swiss net players.

Anssi hit:

-flurricane bsos first try, early in the session.

-triaging legover

-4 enterrages

-a beast first try

-ss paratrooper, maybe both sides.

I didn't hit much, but I played decently for my first time in a few weeks. more on today later... I'm going out to watch the finnish crew shred it up in front of the wall.

How good are the kababs! I pretty much lived off them when I was in Berlin last year. I really wish I was there now

I have found a place with a great shawarma. we have stuff that is similar in the states, but not quite the same.

there is a constant beeping coming from something. Security system maybe?

disclaimer: I have had way too much to drink.

Worlds is a blast so far. nice site, nice gym. I'll start chronological.

waking to a bit of coughing from the style of partying, and then a sincere breakfast for free at the hotel. Finished a bag, talked to some Finnish. Then grabbed my guitar and a beer and sat outside and looked at the wall and practiced. Anssi joined me and played my guitar a bit, then some tin whistle and harmonica while Caroline Burch sat with us.

And what of the rest of the day? I could write everything, or nothing. nothing for now... there was a lot. I'll post some video soon. I have some good stuff.

Ah, just came back from the opening party at spree bar. Was so great to meet everyone again, atmosphere was nice and time flew. Tomorrow we have judges meeting in the morning, so it is time to sleep now.

Sitting at the East Side hotel lobby where all the "too good for hostel" players are at :)

I tried taking some action shots yesterday at the event site:

This is the view of the wall from my room window. Some sort of commentary about the country I come from, I'm not sure what it means, though:

Allot of people recognized me as "Ahh so you're the player from Israel". It's nice to be famous for something, even if it's not my playing skills :)

I already got a bunch of good bags (two of them by people named Matt) and am planning to get a bunch of Quantums today to sell back in Israel.

I lived in Germany for 2 years.....and the Doner Kabab is THE BEST FOOD EVER TO BE CONSUMED NO CONTEST. Its actualy not German, its Turkish. Also, as I'm sure you've already discovered BEER. Lots of beer. Good beer.

If you guys have some time, take a look around. there are more castles than you can shake a stick at in Germany.

I'm very jealous. I hope you guys kick ass and have a great time. Soak it up! Its an awesome experience.

Weather was a little bit crazy on the first day - lots of sun and bursts of rain - ted fritsch played his intermediate routine in an epic storm and was the crowd favourite ;)

Biggest Request Contest in History I think, seemed at least little bit bigger than last year in prague imo.
Milan Benda won in round 17 or 16, Bartek Bubula from Poland came in second.

Damian, Norek and Landes had a small circle afterwards to determine the third place - Damian went out early and Out-Landes (nickname semi confirmed from nick himself ;) ) finally beat Hi-Tech for the third place.

Ridicolous combos in there - I remember ripstein > janiwalker from milan, bubek hit locomotion > whirr but the winning combo from milan was quantum reverse whirl > paradox flux!
