I've started doing some very preliminary research on hotels, and here's some findings/thoughts.
It sounds like Evan's place is going to be pretty crowded, so I'm looking to get a hotel for Friday and Saturday night. Most people leave Sunday (myself included), so those two nights make the most sense for the most people. I'm therefore also looking for a place to crash on Thursday night.
If I get a hotel, I think 4 people makes the most sense. Maybe 5, assuming somebody crashes on the floor. If we have 4 people though, that means we can get 2 queen beds and have 2 people in each. That should be comfortable, since everybody gets bed space. Maybe have the 5th person on a couch. Anything over 5, and I think the bathroom gets overrun.
So far I'm only looking at hotels which have between 3-4 stars on tripadvisor, and are on the strip. The strip isn't far from UNLV, so it wouldn't create too much of a burden for Evan/anybody else driving. It'd also put us right by the action, in case people want to go out or just see the strip.
For a room on the strip for Friday and Saturday night, at 3-4 star hotels, the rates I'm seeing are between $47-99 per person total. $25/night to have bedspace and be on the Vegas strip isn't bad at all IMO. There are a couple people who have expressed interest in splitting a room, but nothing is official yet. I'll be in touch with the people who have expressed interest. If you are going and haven't contacted me yet, send me a PM. Depending on everybody's price range and preferences, maybe we get two rooms in the same hotel, just to make logistics easier for everybody.
Evan: any word on airport pickups? Event schedule? UNLV campus? Prizes?

Ken: Those prices will work with me. Count me in for Friday and Saturday night. I will edit above post to avoid any confusion.
There is a $5 shuttle that takes people from the airport to the strip. I am in class right now and can investigate that later on. PS when looking at hotel prices let me know what you find. We MIGHT be able to get a discount with my US Airways employment.

Still waiting on response from a couple people, but good to know that price range is reasonable for most. I had volunteering after work yesterday, and I have 9ball tonight, but I'll try and sneak in some time to do more hotel research. I kind of want to pull the trigger sooner than later, since I'm afraid hotels are gonna be scarce that time of year (spring break).
Getting excited for this. Flash, Nasty, Bear, Justin Dale (?), and Evan? Pretty high level shred for that weekend...

I pulled the trigger for a hotel on the strip. Regamey, Mike Green, Mathieu GM and myself will be staying at the Excalibur Friday-Sat night (i'll be there Thursday night too). If others are getting hotels on/near the strip, this is where we'll be. Sorry for not coordinating more with other groups, but it was hard enough to find decent hotels in that area at decent prices and coordinating with 4 other people at the same time.
Stoked to see everybody soon!

GDC... and Regamey!qphox wrote:I'm headed to GDC the week before in San Fran, and I decided to fly back through Las Vegas for the weekend.
I arrive at 10:05 on the friday.
So, I checked prices for airline tickets, and like my fellow NYFer Drew has said early in the topic prices are above $300 (skimming around 500 from what I'm seeing on Kayak). I'd like to go, and I reeeeaaallly want to chill with all the SOFREAKIN cool peeps in this jam, but I dunno. Money is tight.
edit: LaGuardia airport is proving to be expensive, but JFK looks promising. Wednesday 3/7 or Thursday 3/8 is looking good (no solid promises).

Also David Clavens?!? It would be awesome to see you in real life. I absolutely loved your Autumn video!
Less than a month away! Any word on events/schedule? I'm totally down for busking on the strip, but if we do we need to do it right. Like we should make a big sign out of posterboard that says "send us to World Championships" or something like that.
Oh, and tradition should be continued with a footbag poker game.
