Re: Worlds 2013 Updates
I agree.. Jan is a robot..
I still am in shock at how few people turned out for this worlds. It seems kinda like USO this year in that allot of the big names were no shows. I can't help but feel bummed that footbag seems in a rut or a lul in progression.
I want to say the polite nice things but I think I'm going to go with the honest approach and just say that I'm not impressed by this worlds competition at all when I compare it to years past. (2010) comes to mind most recently. Out of that year I think Honza and Ken are the only ones there out of the top 20..
2010 finals
1. Milan Benda (Czech Republic)
2. David Clavens (USA)
3. Damian Gielnicki (Poland)
4. Jan Weber (Czech Republic)
5. Václav Klouda (Czech Republic)
6. Arkadiusz Dudzinski (Poland)
7. Jim Penske (USA)
8. Nick Landes (USA)
9. Gordon Bevier (USA)
10. Ken Somolinos (USA)
10. Marcin Bujko (Poland)
10. Lon Smith (USA)
13. Jay Boychuk (Canada)
13. Philip Morrison (New Zealand)
13. Anssi Sundberg (Finland)
13. Micha³ Ostrowski (Poland)
17. Wiktor Debski (Poland)
17. Toni Pääkkönen (Finland)
17. Tuukka Antikainen (Finland)
17. Evan Gatesman (USA)
20. Zeb Jackson (USA)
20. Rafal Kaleta (Poland)
20. Tomasz Ostrowski (Poland)
20. Matt Kemmer (USA)
Not that it matters where any one placed in the past but I guess I'm surprised at how few of the big name players are there. Allot of new names which is nice but I think I've seen more drops in this worlds than the last 2 combined. I guess I can chaulk it up to a progression year. I in no way want to knock any individual's down as I myself had tons of drops at USO and will be the first to admit I have much work to do.. But all the routine's just seem .... well.. a bit rushed.. Kinda like me lol. I am thoroughly impressed with Jindra Smola though. I've never even heard of him but holy hell he goes like a bat out of hell.. I see Jan then Jindra for sure a solid top 2 then Aleksi close behind... but it's anyones game after that. Congrats to Dustin for a very nice routine as well! .. Don't get me wrong.. the talent is amazing.. Just some unfortunate luck I suppoose..
Sorry to be so honest and it is after all just an opinion. I know many will think otherwise and I'll apologize ahead of time if you disagree but I have seen the frustration on many faces in the videos posted by the end of some routines and I know it didn't quite go as planned for most.. Even Ken who had a beautiful, extremely well synced, dropless (in my mind) routine at USO's had a 3 drop in semi's.. I know everyone is way better than what has been captured in 2 minutes in Montreal.
I guess the coach in me is just wanting to say.. WAKE UP AND GET IT TOGETHER TEAM!!! YOUR BETTER THAN THIS!!! lol......Here's to kickin some major ass in the final's! Prove me wrong and make it the best final's ever! ..
Thank you sooooooo much for the videos!!! I greatly appreciate it!!! Can't wait for the final footage. 8D
And to those who are hosting the event.. my opinion on play has no reflection towards event organization etc!!! I'm sure your all doing a fantastic job!!!

Re: Worlds 2013 Updates
Just caught up with Qualifications.
Honza-simply amazing, not only didn't break a sweat but didn't even look out of breath with a killer routine, love the ease in with he puts in 6's.
Felix-he went so hard, and WTF was the end move, unexpected and great.
Rene/Chris-Really great routines, drops are the only things holding these back, very solid.
Jindra/Aleksi-These guys go so hard! I feel like they are still figuring out routines for their style. Very hard to pull of dropless the way they are doing them. They could take some inspiration from Honza and realize they can go even harder but put together easier routines that would be more consistent.
Mathieu/Johnny-really nice to see great routines from people I don't get to see often.
Ken/Dustin-Do I need to even say anything? You guys are so solid, you know how you do.
Great stuff all around. Now to check out Semifinals.
Big thanks to everyone involved.

Felix won sick 3 with something like alpine legbeater > pogo symp twirl > gyro food processor. Johnny hit his safety first try and then footed fury > alpine legbeater > nuclear ducking whirl. Honza hit leviathan > blurry torquescrew > food processor? Jindra hit pixie paradon swirl > mullet > gravedigger?

Re: Worlds 2013 Updates
Today's observations:
Lots of juggling in everyone's routines this year.
Honza is on a completely different level.
I love when players put together a routine outfit. When you can tell the didn't just wear a random shirt and shorts. Looks very professional.
The song that played for Semifinal shred 30 should be banned from playing in competition. It played during circle at Green Cup and it's awful. Not sure why it hasn't been removed from every playlist.

Re: Worlds 2013 Updates
Here's what I like about Pipenberg:
He's really smart about his game. After watching his Shred 30 and Circle performances, it's clear that he enters into the competition with a game plan. Especially evident in his Shred 30. It wasn't like he had a routine planned, but he very clearly had a string of moves to hit and links to hit that was challenging and unique enough to deliver a good score. Same with Circle - it was evident he was really thinking about what elements of his game he could exploit to do as well as he could.
In contrast, Felix (GREAT player) was just shredding hard in circle. I loved watching it cause he hit some sick stuff, but I think it cost him because he got out of his comfort zone, or just pushed a little too hard. (And, when I say "cost him", I mean it was detrimental to his Circle results but apparently gave him some confidence to go dominate Sick 3!)
Once again, thanks for posting. It's really fun to watch this stuff fairly close to real time and evaluate it as they go.

Re: Worlds 2013 Updates
This is exactly what I was thinking when I watched it. I LOVED that they came out of the gate with so much energy and enthusiasm - but it was just so hard and fast. Although, I chalk some of that up to nerves and anticipation for competing on the sport's biggest stage.bustinjustin wrote: Jindra/Aleksi-These guys go so hard! I love both their styles - and if you watch Aleksi in particular during his Circle competition, he looks a lot more paced and flowing. Probably because he's really comfortable in that setting. There are other people on stage, it's not about working with your musing and putting on a show, it's more focused on shredding.
Watching Aleksi's routines over the past couple years, it's clear he's been putting more thought and effort into his performances. Once both these guys get a little more comfortable (this isn't a slam, it's just something that comes with more experience) with routines, they're both gonna shine.
