Highspeed 2012, Jay Boychuk

Postby jay7 » Tue Mar 20, 2012 6:26 pm

Greetings.

I was casually playing footbag for about 20 minutes, when my girlfriend got the bright idea to film me. What started out as "Hey, I'd like to see this in highspeed" ended up in this video.

Let it be known that this isn't supposed to be professional, intense, or, hardcore in anyway... Just take it for what it is, and I'm sorry my whirls suck.

Enjoy.

i dont care what they say about u, your pretty good. everytime i watch a vid from you, your form and style is so beatiful. ive been reading alot of your post in the last week and i say i cant wait for you to get in the crush mode.i admire clavens style all the way and how he just tore the shit out of anybody that was there. you have so many options on badass links and drills that i feel you could make everybody shit there pants. Soon as you realize that (if you havent already), your going to kill it and be known as one of the sickiest shredders out there. I believe you got what it takes to even dominate the otherside of the world. know what i mean? go go go go

vortex swirl looked great and teh furious set on the drifter was SUPER tight and I like how you were still high in the air when the set was complete...

Jay,

... yes, nothing says, "My whirls suck," like a beautifully clean whirlwalk.

*sigh*

This is just a good vid of some very cool moves done exceptionally well. Even if the world operated in slow motion, I don't think I could hit these.

Excellent. Excellent. Excellent.

After seeing this I have to say I'm going with my initial thought after reading your recent blog posts: Don't worry too much about your skill and your style. You are most definitely good at the sport of footbag - but more importantly, it sounds like you're doing pretty good at life as well. Most people can't even get one aspect of their life functioning well at one time, let alone school, relationships and fun/sport all at the same time.

So be happy. Be confident. Have fun. And enjoy everything about your life, because from the outside looking in, I'd have to say it's going pretty well.

I don't know if this is what the dark stuff is, but some shredders apply boat rubber to the bottom of their shoes when the soles become worn. Think of it as a new life for the shoes.

Jay, this is how your video made me feel:
Image

And about the shoe sole repair: Nick and I repaired a few pairs of quantums recently with some raft repair material we got at a outdoors/boating store. It's made of PVC, and it was about 3mm thick and purchased in a roll. I used a tube of freesole to attach it. It's not very grippy, but it's lightweight and holding my shoes together very well.

Also a couple years ago I bought some rubber half-soles from ebay and attached them to the bottom of my quantums with freesole. They were 3mm thick and pretty heavy, but they lasted forever. Jay looks like he has the same thing going on.

Why hello there, shoe inquirers.

I went to an eskimo man, who is a shoe cobbler in my university town. I Asked him if he could just resole half of my shoe, with the grippiest stuff he had. So, he sanded down part of my shoe, and then replaced 3 mm's with this rubber. It rocks, and when I switch to new quantums, I'll get it done again. It was about $30.

And thanks a lot for the support and video enjoyment. :) Feels really good to read all this.
