Do not think of this move as a opposite direction legover.

Instead picture it as a mirage, but bailed to the same toe of the leg that does the dex. Set the bag about waist height, then lift your knee in the air so that it can dex it when the bag reaches its peak. When the bag peaks shift your body over the bag with your leg in the air. After you have done the first part of the dex, continue to circle the leg behind the bag and end on a toe stall.

This way is much easier than standing in the same place and having your leg move all around the bag. Small body movements can give you much added time when doing dexterities.

The thing that helped me learn them is to do a little hop off your dexing foot right when you set the bag... I don't know if this is considered bad form though.

hmm.

I just tried Dustin's method and the normal way. Definitly if all you want to is pickup - I don't think the hop is very good. I do it I guess just like a mirage bail to the same toe. I could analyse my movements lots if you want - but you have so much time I bet you can figure it out if you keep trying and can hit mirage already.

If you were trying to hit toe set double pickup or something like that (or even toe barrage) - changing feet in the air is really important - but if I'm just hitting toe pickup I'll plant both feet then dex it I guess.

I used to do the hop like dustin. Its gone out of my game just through high reps and practice, i am sure this will happen for everyone else who uses this method.

Hm... I think I might be thinking of leg over instead of pick up oops, but yeh I thought people told me to do the hop for that move... guess it's different for pick-up.

i dont think you do that on leg overs ethier...unless u mean hop off the setting foot not the dexing foot.

I am so confused, and I know how to do legovers... I know what I mean I guess and I'll just go with that, because I can do them pretty consistantly...

Is it bad form to turn your knee inward in order to dex the bag during a pickup? I've been playing around with different methods and now I'm experiencing knee pain.

I always considered that sloppy for my own style. I didn't like that my knee came in a lot (making the dex more horizontal) on one side and tried hard to straighten it on pickup dexes with that leg. It's all stylistic and personal preference, though. There is no right or wrong in footbag :)

As for knee pain, if you point your knee inward you will be dexing more with your lower leg, and using more movement in your knee; if you keep your leg vertical you will be dexing more with your hip and have less knee pain.

Pickups are quite possibly the easiet move ever (no disrespect to you, just my opinion). i did it by accident trying a stepping set, it was really low and i just caught it

oh, and totally unrelated to Pickups, but since we're talking about doing dexes wrong, is it bad to do Pdx Drifters with the dex a bit 'whirl-ish'?(not that i've even got it yet. i might have today but my leg killed after trying them non stop yesterday)
