What move names do you hate?
What move names do you hate?
Hey all, this is a thread where you can vent about move names you strongly dislike. But if you do, please explain why. `I just do` doesn`t cut it.
I`ll kick it off with these 4.
Double Leg Over This name is so old and so standard, it will never change. But I think its a real crap name. Why? OK, imagine ATW. Now picture DATW. Imagine blender. Now imagine double blender. Spinning clipper->double spinning clipper. Swirl-double swirl, whirl-double whirl, etc. By this logic, `double legover` should be an o-i DATW set from the other toe. But no, instead its a miraging legover. This still kinda bugs me.
Flying clipper With the whole concept of `flying` catching on, this is real confusing. This should be a jester really. Everybody knows what it is, and it doesn`t sound nearly as pretentious. When I hear `flying clipper` it sounds to me like the sport is trying too hard to sound legit and technical. Whatever.
Flaming Tard This is like a throw-away joke which is funny the first time you hear it, but shouldn`t have stuck as a move name. Straight up, footbag doesn`t need pointlessly offensive move names.
Sunilwalk Granted, this move does need a name, since high stepping butterfly is a mouthful. But if this move gets a name, shouldn`t Sunil name it? I don`t even know if Sunil likes this name... it makes me cringe personally. I`m not a fan of this mania of naming moves after oneself.
OK, floor is yours. Feel free to discuss anything, but back up your opinions with reasons.

pixie/fairy paradon, stepping superfly, etc.
I think people should say: pixie double down, pixie ss double down, stepping far symposium double down (which is why torture rack is a good name -- what a mouthful!)
It seems like it usually leads to a lot of confusion over the proper nomenclature.
Is fusion atomic paradon or atomic double over down?? If it were atomic paradon then the paradon would be in relation to the atomic, but if it were the latter then it would be in relation to the starting surface... It doesn't really make any sense to call it either, though. Atomic Double Down makes sense if we decide to call a paradon a double down (technically), a double over down a ss double down, barfly = far double down, double down down = double down or clipper set double down, etc...
Nothing will change, though, of course.

Pixie, Fairy, butterfly... it takes so long when you first start shredding, to hit moves that dont make your non-footbag friends burst out laughing

The whole DOD issue bugs me. What other move has 4 names depending
on where you set from. We'd be better off with one name (maybe Paradon
or double Butterfly).
Christina Aguilera - you know why.
Backside Smear - this is kinda icky.

I don't like the name barfly. Whenever I hear "barfly" I picture a fly sitting in a bar drinking a beer and I think: That's stupid. Same goes with barfry, but it's a french fry having a belini and that's even more stupid.

Rory, perhaps you just havn't experienced the magic of having your butterflys blossom into barflys.
I can't quite say "shredita" with a straight face out loud. I just feel akward and strange about it.
I guess it makes it easier that Vida rhymes with shredita, it gives me more reason to say it.
G'way' va G'why' as the proper way of saying 'guay'.
I have been "corrected" by players from all over for saying one version or the other, I have no idea which one I now think is correct.
I think I will say GWAY from now on.
Jorden's BAP name should be THE DESTROYER because he is so fucking good. His BAP name is so lame and stupid, he fucking destroys and it still rhymes just as well as his other one.
(I know that is not a trick name)
Cripwalk - I am bummed that Ken really doesn't like this name. I kept the name because no matter what you do in life you'll always be able to find someone that disagrees with it, unless the other person is a cop it is at your discretion to decide if you want to go ahead anyways based on the facts. I wasn't trying to shove it in his face at all, I just wanted to use a word that exists that has the word ripwalk in it since my trick did too, thats all.
Flying Clipper - same as above, flying is getting hot and I don't mean the same thing anymore when I say 'flying clipper'. I think Flying is going to become a much more popular term. Like... Full Flying Dimwalk is a pixie set from a flying toe stall into a flying butterfly stall that you set before landing. Full Flying.

like the monkey man said. All this pixie, fairy stuff pisses me off. Especially when they are such basic moves. You try and get people to start playing footbag and they think its really gay because their first move is pixie. I mean the cant go bragging about that. When I was just starting I used to when telling non footbaggers my new moves id be like "i hit same set mirage" and "paradon with one less dex". But now im just so used to talking about these names that ill be on a train going "I love this drill, pixie, fairy repeat". BTW dont try that drill it really sucks.

I second double leg over
Flux when used to describe a illusioning osis - Reverse Torque!
Assasin, Spike Hammer, Blurrier, Blurriest, Jackknife, Darkwalk, Arachnophobia, Leviathan, Whirlygig, Quasi...
I don't think Flaming Tard is that bad, there are lots of other sexually orientated names out there, and I don't think Flaming Tard is the worst. Dominatrix?! SHOOTING STAR?!!
And on this move-list Red Wetter - that most be the nastiest of them all...
But I think they're good - I'd rather say in puplic that I was going to do a Flaming Tard than a Butterfly... Or a Gaywalk (I know it his name, but still..)...
EDIT: The reason I find Red Wetter, well, not offensive, but ... odd, is when I hear Bedwetter I think of somebody pissing while sleeping, Wet dream, well, maybe you have to be 13 to post here but still, and then finally Red Wetter - you still wet your bed, but this time I get associations to women - still having the sexual pictures from Wet Dream - I think of a girl in bed menstruating all over the place.
More EDIT: I'm not afraid to sound gay, but I dislike moves that sound too whimpy and too pretentious - moves that want to sound really cool and hardcore..

You think red wetter is nasty? It was named by red husted and is a shooting eggbeater - blurry eggbeater is bed wetter - hence red wetter. I don't find that offensive or gross at all.

i don't like saying shredita either. I'd rather just say freestyler or shredder.
and I think Gaywalk is hilarious. I can guarantee Josh has put up with more bullshit than I can even image because of that name, so the fact that he can have it and laugh at it and name a trick after it makes me smile. And it's not a derogatory name or anything.
as for flaming tard, that one could use another name, doesn't it have a second name?
I agree with other double legover haters. I think double switchover should be called double legover, and the current DLO should be miraging legover. We could make the switch from DLO to MLO, that wouldn't be so bad. First, we'll tackle double legover, then, the English weights and measurements system (go metric!).

If I'm not mistaken, the alternate name for "Flaming Tard" is "Wet Dream". Personally, I don't see much of an imporvement there. Maybe I'm just being biased, though, since I've always loved the name Flaming Tard.as for flaming tard, that one could use another name, doesn't it have a second name?
One of my own least favorite names is "Dimwalk". I don't care who its named after. It may be convenient and easy to say, and it seems to sound more or less similar to Ripwalk, the trick and name that its a variation of, but it just doesn't have any real coolness to it that way that Ripwalk does.
Worst move name ever? Who remembers the "Cokewalk"?

Yeah, Flaming Tard is Wetdream -- it makes more sense, too, because it's stepping eggbeater, while Bedwetter is blurry eggbeater.
The weird thing is I never really think of the words as words (unless I'm, like, present when a move is named or talked about being named) I just see them as footbag moves and nothing else, and therefore nothing really ever sounds strange or dumb to me, unless the name screams nonsense.
Aeon Flux used to be nuclear op osis, but since Flipsider and the introduction of downtime reverse torques, it's become gyro flux and nuclear osis, Nucleosis. I think it makes sense that sometimes move names change, like Flux is DEFINATELY downtime reverse torque now and the reverse of Rasmus is that it bothers me when people call atomic osis flux.
I guess move names don't bother me too much, but what bothers me the most is when people confuse technicaly names or disagree with what I think! Ha! Like that whole thing about Whirr just really being a barrage caught on clipper and all of that. I think the problem, now that footbag is in a HUUUUGE transition where people are inventing like crazy, is that EVERY LITTLE MOVEMENT is becoming unique and any little change in one's style can merit a unique trick. I LIKE this -- there is SO much out there to try and it allows one to borrow from another's style, rather than saying, "oh you do your atomic leggy? I do it hippy." Do both and benefit from the style of both unique sets!! That is what I say. I was thinking about how I'd like to hit big apple and how little apple is so easy that it can't be all that hard to just turn and osis after the dex. However without the crank and bending of the "mirage" in the torque it wouldn't really be a symp mobius it would be something altogether unique. This made me realize that maybe torque doesn't really invovle a mirage at all, but rather a unique in-to-out "bendy" dexterity somewhat similar to, and often confused as, mirage.
The only move names, I think, that bother me are the 'doubles' that don't fit as well. I know Lotus came first, but Void fits so much better. (Wasn't there even another name for spinning drifter???) It took me a long time to get over Johnny Quest, too. I think Brian McKenzie named that, but Lynton's(?) name, makes more sense...what is it.....I forget. Hmm..and names that seem really random because they are words that mean crazy things -- I only mind it so much if they are related to other commonly used moves and could be named to fit better..like Rasmus and Skullsmasher. Skullsmasher is beautiful, while Rasmus doesn't really fit at all.
I'm also with Ken on Double Legover -- I remember that annoying me for years when I started playing!! It's weird that Switchover caught on as the double dex version (and nothing else!!), while Legover is still used as the single dex, alone and after a set. I guess that is from before my time, though, and will never make sense unless someone like Ken explains it to me.
