Spins

Post by Bubbleh » 23 Sep 2005 11:57

Hey there.

I'll go out on a limb and say with confidence I do the 1-adds and more complex 2-adds with decent consistancy (got a few 3-adds down but nothing too impressive). But, one fundamental still eludes me and that is the spins. I know it is far more than just simple timing like balance, view and speed.

Any tips here? Currently, I'm practicing tossing the bag up high and evenly and working to tilt my head to watch as the bag falls down but I know I am missing something; most of the time I catch myself from falling down. I've landed a few spins just from toe stall to toe stall but I've attributed that to luck more than anything else. Any time I've even tried a simple clipper stall to clipper stall with a spin in there has resulted in embarassing . . . results.

Any tips for double dex moves would be great too.

NINJA EDIT - Well, they call us noobs for a reason. Just stumbled upon this thread:

spins.

Seriously, osis helps to develop the coordination for a spin.

I'll break how my Inside Del > Spin > Inside Del works...

1. First, catch the Inside Del...
2. Throw it straight up a little to your left...
3. Catch eye contact with where the bag is (should be a little close to head height)
4. Do a 180, at this point the bag should not be visibile
5. Turn your head a little to catch sight of the bag...
6. Watch it while finishing the rest of the 180, and boom you'll see where it is
7. Set up, and catch it...

That's as good as I can break it down, haha. I have these down to a science.

Nice, but I advice never trying to set the footbag anywhere apart from straight up.

To tell you the truth, I rather Kick > Spin > Kick... It just is a awesome trick to bring to the kicking circle and everyone goes 8O

I've been trying to learn them setting them straight up, adn it's actually been helping! Thanks Jeremy! :)

Well, get really good Clippers, where you can set High and Straight, learn Osis, learn to combine it, both sides of course, and then use it a lot.
Then spin later, a Good foundations makes it stay.

Spins:

As Justin Dale, who once told Kevin Crowley, who once told me:

Pretend that there's a little box about the size of your chest right in front of you; that's where you want the bag to end up being once you've spun. Remember to set the bag, then spin.

By all means I am no spin doctor (hehe), so my advice probably sucks.

Master clipper both sides and osis. Those help with spins a great deal.

Watch videos with a lot of spinning tricks (better: watch someone who can do spinning live!). Especially pay attention to the timing and the feet.
