I want to learn more about typography so bad. Do you have a link to some tutorial/article that is worth some time?

I dig the monster. 8)

a piece for my typography class... its huge... 20x30"
kinda lame that someone will quote a pic right after it was posted in the footbags ive made thread, but not for the art thread.

either way, the "i dont use helvetica" is a quote from a graphic designer named paula scher. all of the background is made of her quotes, and her biography on aiga.com and pentagram.com (graphic design stuff). shes famous for the public theatre identity in the 90's (bring in da noise bring in da funk). she made the citi bank logo. she designed the book "america" by jon stewart. "the computer made me feel like my hands had been cut off" , "any jackass can kick down a barn door but it takes a carpenter to build one"

i havent gotten a grade yet but im expecting an A because it was the best in the class, and because it was nearly twice the size of everyone elses, and i spent $50 on having it printed and mounted (now that i think about it, i could have gotten a new footbag i wanted instead of that).

one day, youll see some logos or some ads, and theyll become famous, and ill be rolling in money because i too will be famous. (for one of my later classes we get to imagine a business and do all the corporate identities for it.. and ive already decided its going to be for hollybags)

edit: asmus, i will look around for you... maybe i can scan in some pages from one of my type books

New drawing.

On toned paper, white charcoal along with regular charcoal. Self portrait. I think it's like, 10 x 17 or something. Maybe less? I'm not sure. 12 x 16 sounds about right... Whatever. :P Just critique it please, it's a bit of a work in progress.

well theres not much to critique it looks pretty good. if anything id say try and have a little more detail/contrast around the tear duct on the left eye... maybe its just the photo but it looks like the eye just sorta fades into the bridge of the nose. maybe try to have more of a catch light in the eye too, but again the pictures a bit out of focus so its hard to tell.

great peice!

8O Wow its really a great piece of art! I love the highlights, and overall style.
The texture in the hair is great.
critique:

the lips look too highlighted. try adding some texture to them

the only other thing is , i would, add more value to the face. (darker around the left eye, the lips ect.)

overall....SICK

I like the hex/pents in the background, and the colors add a good vibe to it. maybe contort the left leg to keep up with proportions? It looks a lil misshapen

I really dig your oilpainting. I dont know about the old man in it though. I don't think you can see him clearly enough (could be the photo) and I dont really understand what he is doing in there.

My first personal painting:

I used acrylics, waterpaint and tusch. Painted on cardboard.

Nice work, otherwise.
