Hey Fletch. I'm really sorry to hear about the knees...I'm constantly amazed by how strong and weak our bodies can be at the same time. That said, time off footbag can be really good for you. There was a time in 2004 where I had a footbag injury that made me wonder if I'd have to quit. I changed my game (took out most symposium, focussed on playing lighter on my feet, not playing on concrete, etc) and within a year I was back at full strength. In the meantime there are lots of other hobbies you can pick up which can help ease the footbag withdrawal. Juggling, frisbee, becoming an NBA playoff junkie, etc. Take it easy, and best of luck with your recovery.

I’m that glad you made an appointment. It sucks that you have to wait that long to see the Dr. but hopefully it means that she or he is good.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone... Unfortunately I haven't been able to choke anyone in a while either. :(

I can't stop thinking about footbag. My knees feel pretty much no better after a month, although I was still biking home from school, so I stopped that... doctor's office on monday. God damnit I want to shred. :(

Sorry they still bother you man. Just try to hold out. Hopefully you'll get good news from the doctor. Go on a stitching rampage or something so you can keep yourself busy!

Go to Worlds!
I've been kicking myself for 3 years for having missed Worlds '04 just because I couldn't play. It's Disney World Worlds!

I probably missed, but what happened to your knees? Mine are toast too -- that's why I missed Montreal.

Thanks for the support again.

Erik - Definitely still going to worlds even if I can't play because I already bought my plane ticket and made reservations for a house. My left knee was previously injured from a hyperextension that I never let fully heal, and my right one started hurting a month ago. I've been resting more but have still been biking and stuff.

Went to the doctor today, he told me that my knees are healthy, in the sense that there aren't any torn ligaments or cartilage. He told me that the pain was from jumping (impact from freestyle/net I think,) and that I should be fine if I rest it for a couple months. Also the popping I was worried about he says is normal.

So I'm less melancholy than before, except I feel like I've been resting for a month and they don't feel any better (I've been biking and walking up/down hills the whole time though,) so I'm not sure what to think. I will put in a solid 2 months of rest and then slowly come back if everything feels ok, but I'll need to transform my style so that I have zero impact. :?

I think that's what Jan Zimmerman had to do way back in the day, and look at his style!!!!!! Smooooth! Mine has smoothened out a TON too, and totally transformed my move selection "style" too, because of my injuries.
Good luck.

I don't have any souvenirs for you from Illinois but here's something to remind you of me. And my future life goals.

Hi... everyone who reads this.

I cut my hair today. It looks pretty sweet, check it out.

Sweeeet.

Emily is in Maryland, and she won't know if I'm keeping my hair like this until she gets back. If she reads this, that is.

In other news, I'm still crippled but going to a back doctor on the 16th so they can take my money and tell me there's nothing wrong with me.

And I started boxing and surfing. Two fun things you can do when you can't footbag. I played net once, and my knee felt alright and didn't hurt afterwards but then I played wednesday and it felt like shit afterwards.. so I'm not gonna play freestyle until after I see a doctor/possibly worlds. I don't think about freestyle all the time anymore but it still sucks that if I do get a chance to play at worlds it will be after 3 months of sitting on my ass.

Surfing is fun though, and I pretty much memorized 500 words for the gre, so I got that going for me.

:D

Sweet Jeesus... you've never looked as good in person as you do in that first picture, why did I have to miss that?

I played freestyle for the first time in .. probably 3 months? I was doped up on advil and extra strength tylenol as per recommendation of my doctor.

So, my left foot is flat, my quads are weak, and my hamstrings and hip flexors are extremely tight, says the doctor. I need to get orthotics from a podiatrist (which doesn't have an appt. until fucking aug 22nd, thanks American health care,) and I need to go to physical therapy a bit so they can show me how to stretch and exercise those things really well. I'm also getting knee braces.

I hit some fun stuff, like zulu osis and diving osis in a guiltless run, and ducking pdx mirage>ducking bfly rpt. It felt really good to play but it pissed me off that I had to take so much time off too. I tried a few tricks that I probably shouldn't have, but my doctor told me I didn't have to stop playing sports so... at least I will be able to play at worlds :D :D :D :D :D I'll suck, but that's ok.

I don't know if I told my blog, but I got a job as a behavorial technician which I start in september either in Scott's Valley or Gilroy, which is where Jeremy works, which means we might be co-workers.

Looking forward to worlds, and hopefully playing some freestyle and net later in the week.

Glad to hear you'll be able to play at worlds. Let's definitely get in a circle at some point. Are you or Grom bringing a scrabble board? I bet we could get some intense games in.

Yo Ken,

I do not have a travel scrabble, so if you have one you could bring that would be great. I'll see about securing one though.

So,

I played net on sunday and whomped ass, 3 killer inside sweeps with AUTHORITY, and 2 outside sweeps with a tattoo. My consistency is still pretty bad, maybe around 50% for sets and 85% for serves, but I'm definitely getting better.

And I played freestyle uhhh... a few days ago. friday? Friday.

Really working on correcting my form right now, specifically playing on the balls of my feet and bringing my toe stalls straight up instead of scooping them.

I hit some good ducking combos, I think the hardest combo was ducking butterfly>ducking pdx mirage RPT. I feel like I have no footbag-muscles in my legs anymore, but it still feels good to play.

Going to play tomorrow, after studying more for the GRE. I've been feeling anxious about this test and not getting exercise isn't helping.

......WORLDS!
