Can you do it with a soccer ball ?

Post by ThisIsFate » 23 Jul 2007 13:17

Hi, there. I am a titless footbagger, and shred around in my area, like malls, schools ...... Just that I have always met some people who like to ask "Can you do it with a soccer ball ? "Or with other shoes (im using rod laver). Anyway, I may able to kick and do around the world with it, but i was pissed.

People just dont respect you, becasue in their minds, when u are kicking something, it must be a soccer ball, or they dont respect and question you. I seriously hate that feeling

I doubt they were saying that out of disrespect. Nate and I get that comment all of the time and many other similar comments. You end up hearing the same questions over an over, but I'll gladly answer them if people are interested enough to come over and start a conversation about it.

Most often heard:
You must be good at soccer!
You look like you are river dancing!
Why are you so sweaty?
Whats with the shoes?
I like when the bag goes over your head.
Can you do the pendulum headstally backflip suprise that my friend does!?

The real question is: Do you practice at home!?
"Fuck it man, you just gotta do it."

in europe the question is different: can you also do this with a REAL ball? cause there is only one real ball in europe... the amazing thing about this is that most people don't even know how direspecting the question is. by now the usual answer is that it is a real ball. or just yes.

That's very true. I get this "real" ball all the time. Lately I just say; "I AM doing it with a real ball, what do you mean?" And people seem to get confused when they hear that...

Also, magnets and glue are a regular. Once a dude was saying how this is IMPOSSIBLE and that the bag CANNOT behave that way. So funny

yeah here in Europe the kids always ask if we can do this with a real ball.. That's sometimes accompanied with a "I [or a friend / cousin] can do the same things with a real/soccer ball" which tends to have my eyebrow raised esp. after hitting pixie symp. whirl or something.

Also, you'll no doubt notice that these kids never actually have a soccer ball with them. If they did I'd ask them to show me a whirr or something. Since they don't have a soccer ball with them I always confidently say:

"A soccer ball? HA! OF COURSE I can do all this with a soccer ball! It's bloody esy!"

it just so happens that I don't have a soccer ball with me right now, so I have to use this small bag instead

I get this question all the time. Or "how long have you been doing that?"
And then when I say almost 2 months and that it is a sport on constant progression ppl are usually pretty interested in giving it a try.
The best question I ever got was:
Guy-Do you play soccer?
Me -Nope, too much running
Guy-Cool, are you Polish?
Me - Nope, I'm French.
Guy - Pfft, and walks away :?

there were definitely funnier ways of making that joke. i was thinking of just posting:

"yeah, if its willing"

or

"if it doesnt fight back"

or

"if they make roofies for soccer balls"

or something like that.

Anyway, only a few people who i met were like this. Usually I will say footbag is a solo sport and soccer is a team play one.

A fixer dude was fixing a fire hydrant near the place I was shredding. He walked over to me and ordered "You better not take off any more of your clothes there buddy"

Then I imagined Worlds '07. One million shredders, all 90% naked, jumping around. I smiled at him and continued to play.
First think about how to practice or don't bother practicing.
