A Survey over ADDs
This is for my statistics class. It would be great if you could answer all questions if you read this, since it's homework. Thanks guys and gals. You can pm me your answers or write them here, I don't care.
1. Do you visit Modified.in at least once per day? (yes or no)
2. Do you think freestyle footbag is more of an art form or a sport? (choose only one)
3. Do you think that a quantitative scoring system is a good thing? (yes or no)
4. Do you think that the current system accurately represents modern freestyle tricks? (yes or no)
5. Do you think that a new quantitative scoring system should be implemented (this means either improving the current system or a completely new system)? (yes or no)
Thanks!

I answered from the perspective of freestyle footbag on modified. I think this varies alot from place to place, scene to scene, person to person. For me it's If there was an options of saying footbag is a community of friends I would pick that.
3. Do you think that a quantitative scoring system is a good thing? (yes or no)
Yes
4. Do you think that the current system accurately represents modern freestyle tricks? (yes or no)
Yes
But only because modern freestyle footbag is so focused on adds. To get the "right" amount of recognition for a trick it has to be score-able in the add system. If the add system changed footbag freestyle would aswell.
5. Do you think that a new quantitative scoring system should be implemented (this means either improving the current system or a completely new system)? (yes or no)
Yes
The ADD system was never ment to score tricks and is way too simple to do so. I hope that somebody out there is working on something better.

For the record, I don't mean freestyle footbag when you play at your house. I mean freestyle footbag in competition.
Thanks to everyone who has completed the survey thus far. And Aleksei, could you finish it? I can't use that unless you answer all of the questions.

No.
2. Do you think freestyle footbag is more of an art form or a sport? (choose only one)
A sport. I was going to say sport before you clarified competition too.
3. Do you think that a quantitative scoring system is a good thing? (yes or no)
No. Well, I'm somewhere in between, but shred would be so boring if it was all gauged by "difficulty". That's why Shred 30 is lame.
4. Do you think that the current system accurately represents modern freestyle tricks? (yes or no)
No. For obvious reasons? Also, Xdex is lame.
5. Do you think that a new quantitative scoring system should be implemented (this means either improving the current system or a completely new system)? (yes or no)
Yes [for competition]. I guess all of these questions are in the context of competition, yes? You may have recieved more accurate responses if you had clarified if all questions were regarding competition. And which competition.
No.

1. Yes
2. sport
I see footbag as a sport because I'm not trying to express myself, I'm just playing the most awesome game of keep-it-up that anyone ever thought of.
3. No
If there were an accurate system to score how hard a trick was, I would probably be ok with it. I suppose I wouldn't mind if it were scored like skateboarding, though.
4. Yes
I'm taking this as competitions. Since I see the current competition style shifting towards circle comp away from routines, I believe the system is starting to accurately represent modern freestyle tricks, since in circle it's expected that you drop and so you don't have to play as conservatively as in routines. Truer representation of modern freestyle tricks, regardless of how many adds there are.
5. Yes
Whatever makes people happy, as long as I don't have to relearn all the names, because I will never stop calling it Forque>flaming tard>big papa smurf>montage. As long as everyone understands that adds are lame and knows how difficult tricks are, it doesn't really matter.

Re: A Survey over ADDs
I have trouble answering these questions, because it is unclear to me what you are referring to. What do you mean by a "quantitative scoring system?" You mean a system to assign difficulty to tricks (hence ADDs in the title)? Or do you mean a quantitative scoring system for judging competition? And in question 4, what do you mean by "represents." Are you asking if the ADDs system describes difficulty accurately? Or are you asking if the ADD system accurately represents the components of tricks?Zac Miley wrote: 3. 4. Do you think that the current system accurately represents modern freestyle tricks? (yes or no)
5. Do you think that a new quantitative scoring system should be implemented (this means either improving the current system or a completely new system)? (yes or no)
!
In order to get meaningful responses, I think the questions need to be more clearly phrased.
