Jeremy O'Wheel's Freestyle World Record List

Post by Jeremy » 09 Apr 2009 22:58

See the topic of Lon's Record List for background :P

Basically I've created a new record list on footbag.org

http://www.footbag.org/reference/-/Free ... ld_Records

I've imported across some of the records - mainly only common moves, along with my only current record (which has probably been broken but whatever).

I still need to do a bit of tidying up - because I changed the names of some tricks they're not in complete alphabetic order, which I'll fix.

The point of this list, in comparison with other lists, is that it's supposed to be more credible.

To get on this list you have to have a video of your record. You also need to give me the specific date and the type of shoes you were wearing.

You also need to hit enough repetitions of the move to have a value over 15 adds. This means that hitting a 7 add move twice does not count as a record.

I'm also not going to include moves I (subjectively) view as too obscure, as well as tricks that I never see in runs apart from as bails - stuff like pixie ducking toe stalls.

So if you hit a record on video that is not in the list, you need to provide an argument as to why it should be included on the list. This should largely be self evidence for most moves, but for stuff like pixie ducking toe stall, you'll need to convince me that there should be a record for it.

On this subject, if you have any videos of records please post them with the details in this topic. I'll just provide an offsite link to the video. Remember to include date and shoes used. Barefoot is acceptable as long as you specify, but I might create separate records of barefoot tricks.

Also feel free to point out any errors etc - especially with my job's notation. I used a bit of a bastardisation with simplifying the notation of things like torque to clip>op in>op osis.

Cheers.

edit; For records with no video verification, any number will be acceptable so long as you can meet all the criteria.

edit2; Check the pixie legover record for an example of what all the records will one day look like.

Great work Jeremy, I like this a lot. I hope in the future every record will have video evidence.

I have recorded some of my world record, you can find them here:
http://www.footbag.org/gallery/showset/anssiwr
-those videos contain the date.
-all of those are in Quantum 2 shoes.
-about Grifter, I hit 17 or 18 in Mads Hole's video Word Up Worlds, but I hit 21 shortly after Worlds. Also wearing Quantum 2.
-I hit 59 Ducking Butterflies (my previes record being 51) in Copenhagen last summer just before Worlds. Quantum 2 again. I don't think it was filmed, but I'll ask Mads.

-You have a mistake on your list I have not hit 51 Barflies!

Just wanted to chime in to say that I think this is a good idea, it looks to be on the right path (the video verification is key), and thanks for doing the work

I like this idea a lot. I think the greatest value will be when all the records are on video. In fact, I think that until there is video for all the records, there should be a "best record on video" for some of those tricks.

This is a good rule going forward. That said, it'd be nice to get people to re-set the records of tricks which aren't on video.

This seems a bit arbitrary, though I know where you are going with it. I'd only suggest this not be a hard and fast rule, but be considered case by case. If somebody hit Bullwhip x3, that might be a record, and a worthy one at that. I'm sure there are other examples.

Oh yeah, and while I don't know the current ripwalk record, there's a video on youtube of Allen Haggett hitting something like 95 on video. I'd link to it, except I'm at work now.

Yeah sorry, I actually meant 15 adds or over. That's a terrible mistake for somebody who writes logic statements all day at work to make.

If a record doesn't meet the criteria but you (the person hitting it) thinks it's worthy, post it up or email or message me and I'll definitely consider it.

Once I have a few more video verified records I'm going to delete all the records that are not video verified. As I said, any amount of a move on video will beat non video numbers.

The thing about records is that in basically everything else in the world apart from footbag the official "world record" is not necessarily the best score anybody has ever achieved. For many records the record holder has beaten the record many times in practice before doing setting the record in a verified environment. If we really wanted to be serious about this we'd say that records have to be set at IFPA sanctioned footbag tournaments and on video - but I figure just on video is enough for now.

Also I'm not going to go out of my way to look for videos of records. I know there have been some in the past, but it's really up to somebody else to watch those, count the numbers, tell me what they are, what shoes were worn and the date the record was set. Approximate dates are ok if you really don't know. While I'm happy to maintain the list, I don't really have enough time to do more. As I said in the other topic though, I'd welcome the help of anybody else who wants to help out.

David Clavens seems to have hit nemesis*3 at the very end of the video. 18 adds, three tricks, and now a "common" move. He was wearing quantum 3's.

Sweet.

Those whirlwinds are the video verified record that I've seen too.

Dates of both?

For both, or just the nemesis?

I'll put in nemesis with that date anyway.

Cheers.

So, if I submit a video of me hitting 72 osii, that would be the current record?

Correct, or even 5 consecutive osis.

Putting those records up now. I received a PM from Anssi with a video of 30 something barflies though. Watching in a second to make sure they're clean.

Thanks everybody :)

Yeah, my first thought was that Ales had over 20 at the start of his section on Sick '03, but I didn't have a link to it. I like this idea so much, I'm going to make it a point to "set" video records for as many of these tricks as I can, just to motivate people to set actual records.
