We are not going with a host hotel, they wanted tooooooo much money and no deals because we have no history with Dumbo arts. So I have found some apartments that can sleep 10-12 people. IF You do not confirm with a NYFA member that you have a free place to stay, please PM me and when we have enough people I will secure the rental, The price will be under $50 per person to stay in the house, bedding will be limited so if you have some bring it if not we will get it done

Hey,

Myself, Nick and Ivan are all planning to come up from PSU.

NYFA members, any chance of free crash space or should we go ahead and plan on this apartment deal?

Yo dudes, I already promised JP and his gf a spot at my place, which is pretty tiny. If he happens to bail, I'll have 2 spots, or maybe 3 if you're 2 ft tall(Pipebomb?). I'll keep you updated as I hear from JP who would be comin in from Montreal.

$40 a night seems pretty expensive. I would check out hostels in the Brooklyn area as I know my friends have payed $15 a night or maybe a little bit more. I'll see if I can do some research for you guys and see what I can come up with.

$40 a night for no cockaroachs and a clean place to stay where your stuff won't get robbed is pretty cheap!!!! Hostels are about $50 a night for a private room based upon double occupency(you have to pay for 2 so really $100) unless you like dirty and unsafe places

Right, but I had friends that stayed in one close by and said it was OK. I don't know about you but on top of the $100 in gas, $80 just for housing and food on top of that, I would be breaking the bank. Just lookin out for all of my homies that don't have the $$$ flow. I'm finding out now that it's a YMCA across from a police station, so unless you're having trouble with the law, you should feel pretty safe. More details to come dudes.

*Edit: after reading reviews, I don't suggest the YMCA lol. I'll see what else I can come up with in the mean time.

Really? I heard it's fun to stay at the YMCA. They have everything for young men to enjoy (probably includes footbag), and you can hang out with all the boys (footbaggers). I'd also heard that you can get yourself clean, you can have a good meal,
and you can do whatever you feel.

But then, one of my sources is a policeman...so maybe he works at the station across from there.

1. Can we pay our registration ahead of time?
2. Can we send our routine music ahead of time? If not, can we bring it on a flash drive?
3. Will the freestyle events be at the same venue both days?
4. Are there any events happening other than circle and routines?

from Jon S:
(this is the short version)
.....answers to questions 1 and 4 are "NO" (except on question 4 there's a possibility of a Kikbo competition), the other two are still pending.

Super Profundo on the early eve of your day.

So, there have been many details of our event that have proven very tough to really pin-down. Its been hard to settle issues like a SCHEDULE until these other details were certain, because some of these details could have resulted in limitations on WHEN we could play our own music -- we almost had to schedule routines around when some nearby musical acts were taking a break. Instead, we'd finally negotiated a different location for freestyle where we would not be competing with any live music, so we were finally able to make a schedule. Additionally, since there was a little bit of uncertainty regarding the location of the event, it was tough to say whether or not we'd be in the same spot both days.

Anyway, that's all been resolved now. So...

1. We are NOT taking registration ahead of time. We will register competitors on Friday afternoon and evening, and on Saturday.
-- last year I got everybody registered on Saturday quickly and without a hitch. Please bring cash for registration fee. I will have change for whatever bills you've got, cause I'm cool that way.

2. At this time, we are NOT prepared to take routine music ahead of time. This might become an option in the next few days, but, don't hold your breath. We think that Flash-drives will be acceptable, but, a smart and well-prepared competitor would be advised to bring his music on a CD in addition to the flash-drive, just in case. And we all know who's smart and well-prepared...

3. The freestyle events WILL be happening at the same place both days (unless we need to rely on our rain-location on Roosevelt Island). Freestyle will be outdoors at the corner of Main Street and Plymouth Street in Brooklyn, NY. We're right outside the bounds of a very nice grassy park, the Brooklyn Bridge Park, and we'll have a nice view of the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges and lower Manhattan. Be warned -- it may be a little crowded -- frankly, we're hoping for plenty of (pardon the pun) foot traffic.

4. There are no other OFFICIAL events outside of Routines and Circle. However, we are being sponsored by Kikbo ( http://kikbo.com/ ) and Molson Hart of Kikbo wishes to hold a side-event of his own with a Kikbo, with NO entry fee (so this will be available to our registered competitors and anyone else too) for a cash-prize for playing with a Kikbo (its a shuttle-cock -- you know, a hacky-sack with feathers...). I don't yet know all the details, such as exactly HOW MUCH prize-money he's offering, or exactly what the format of the contest will be. Molson and I have spoken briefly about this, and I have suggested to him a SICK ONE or SICK THREE format. We will talk more soon, but for now the idea was that he would have Kikbos available to try on Saturday, and that he would take some feedback on Saturday to determine what contest format to go with on Sunday. All this weather-dependant -- apparently Kikbos are too difficult to use well in high wind...

And now, the SCHEDULE
