Alright, I've done the poll up on the Facebook group. I mentioned that I might do something with more detail - (preference voting rather than just one vote) here on Modified or elsewhere. (It might work best as a Google form or something.

Anyway, I've got a spreadsheet that allocates points for Worlds performances, and I've sorted it for the last 10 years.

Here's the top 10

1. Vasek
2 Honza
3. Milan
4. Patrik
5. Taishi
6. Evan
7. Jindra
8. Aleksi
9. Pawel
10. Damian

Just off the cut there are Nick Landes, Ken, David, Anssi, Dominik, Jim.

Onto my own game. I had a very short kick today. Did manage to get one of the LOTD combos.

This is exactly how it works every year. I can't hit most of them, and something comes along on day 15 or so, and I think, that's made just for me...

https://www.instagram.com/p/B6PdSaolKhj/

So it was the last day of school today. Bit of chaos as expected, but I got through the day in the end. Looking forward to the school holidays, going to go with Nico over to Western Australia to visit a friend of mine there which I'm looking forward to.

I was happy with this little clip I got on Instagram. https://www.instagram.com/p/B6mdwlmlHcj/

As mentioned we've signed up to the gym with pool and we are already getting good use out of it. This past month was free and we've been going most days of the week, so that's good value. What I am able to do on a day like today is break up my ride into work and have a quick kick and dip. Today was very quick, about 15 minutes in all, but generally I try and get an hour there and can do a little gym session also.

Anyway, few good tricks in that run, though I'm not really that happy with the spinning duckings in the first round. That's one of my more reliable tricks so I have to keep working to make sure I'm doing them with a good and proper duck.

I'm enjoying that area by the pool for playing. Good to jump straight after kicking. That was where I was doing a lot of my kicking when we first went to Chile, by the side of the pool at Francisca's mum's apartment complex.

I've been keeping track of how far I ride and a bunch of other stuff, just clicked over 3,000km for the year. Would like to even increase that a bit more for next year. I'm about 250km above last year's mark and I think there's room for improvement on that. May also be room for a new bike and the end of next year, depending on financial situations.

Christmas was pretty good, had a few days down the coast. Good to get in the water at the beach.

Hello all. Welcome to the new decade.

We've started the season with toxic smoke from bushfires. Canberra was top 1 in the world for most polluted cities during the week. It's coming mainly from the fires down the coast. A lot of people have lost their homes and some have died. Dad is OK down there, it seems the main towns are OK. So far anyway. They are saying tomorrow is going to be worse. So we'll see how that goes.

All pretty scary stuff. Doesn't help too much with an incompetent government, mainly filled with climate change deniers, showing their "support". Which is mainly the primary minister trying to grab the hands of people who don't want to shake hands with him.

So I just had a look at some "Air Quality Index" measures. Santiago, which is often really polluted, measures around 65 (that's pretty normal rating). A 200+ is unhealthy. The other day parts of Canberra were hitting over 5000, which put us ahead of parts of India and China...

I have put a little instagram clip up each day. Conditions have not really been fitting to kick much, but I've got a few adds in here and there. I would like to tell you at the end of the year that I posted one every day, but let's see how that goes.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B6xce5vFaOA/
https://www.instagram.com/p/B6y7UVGFI9i/
https://www.instagram.com/p/B61_xMcFOe8/

So little bit hard to kick of a healthy new year in a toxic environment, but I've been to the gym a couple of times and the air has actually cleared up today.

Anyway, hopefully lots of kicking this year. Caroline said she may come back for a visit in the coming months, so that would be good. Hopefully once the smoke clears up can have a kick with Mr Cope. Few freestyle footballers around too that I can kick with from time to time as well.

A guy interviewed me the other day, he's doing a little project called "The Hobby Cupboard". He will make a podcast about people who are pretty passionate about their hobbies. Seemed like a nice guy.

Speaking of those bushfires, a lady was putting together a pack of toys and things to go to the relief effort. They were looking particularly for things people can touch and play with so I gave a bunch of footbags to that. Might lead to a future Australian revival in footbag, you never know.

I've kept up with my daily posts on Instagram so far.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B7CnCBSlJgo/

I would say I'm not actually kicking that much so far, just making the most of a couple of moments available. We went to Sydney for the last few days. They normally call it "the big smoke" but there was a lot less smoke around than here. It's also calmed down a bit here. Going to be 40 degrees again tomorrow so that will probably see more fires again unfortunately but I think a couple of cooler days has really helped.

Anyway, where I was playing yesterday I used in one of my Joulu videos I believe.

This clip is another re-visit of an older Instagram clip, which had much sunnier weather and less interfering "assistants". https://www.instagram.com/p/B69lLc2Fpnr/

I couldn't even remember which one, had to do some searching for it. Anyway, it's a fun place. Lots of water wheels and gates and all that kind of thing.

Francisca is talking about doing some kind of trip for here 40th next year with her friends. She was keen to go to Asia with them, but they seem hesitant on that. I'm all for it as it means I should be able to do similar in a few years when my 4-0 rolls around, which would be 2024. I'd like to do something footbag related, but we'll see what pans out. That's a long way into the future. Have to consider the next few years to begin.

I've got started on a few ideas recently. Some are continuations of things I've already started, some are new things, some will probably see myself getting hurt.

In that last category - I present - footbag on rollerblades...

https://www.instagram.com/p/B7HdH6jlRkn/

This is actually something I was working on when I was in high school. We would probably be talking around year 2000 or so. My footbag skills have definitely improve, I think previously I was only doing a few kicks. It's a fun concept and I'm looking forward to exploring it further.

I've just posted a thread in the "Projects" segment as well as a post on Facebook about doing a little profile for all different countries. Asmus has already done a great writeup for Denmark. I think that could be quite a fun project, we'll see how it goes.

I did up my first vlog for the year from footage that I got today. It's good if you can just get it done and published straight away. I had a little spare time today so that was a good use of it. It's much clearer today, we haven't got the smoke from the fires the last couple of days. That's not to say the fires have stopped, they are going along still, with a number at "emergency level". Pretty scary times. Doesn't seem they will stop any time soon either. There haven't been any fires in Canberra as yet, but there are some burning quite close to the borders to the south, and there's meant to be a strong southerly wind due to come through. It's also still 35 degrees and it's after 10pm which is not usual.

I've also got something in the works *not really footbag related at all, but the idea is to do a site about good places to eat with kids for free or cheap. There's a bunch of these around though not much detail for the Canberra area. So that could also be a fun project. It was some exact information I was looking for while we were in Sydney the other day so I'm sure I'm not the only one searching for this kind of thing.

Nico and I are going to Western Australia next week. I may actually get to kick with Lotus over there. That would be cool, haven't seen him for a long while. Anyway, I've just searched for a similar site and found out in the area we're staying in they've got some kind of dinosaur thing around the streets, so he will love that. There's also a free water park set up in the city centre on the weekends, so that sounds pretty good too.

I like the vlogs!

I rewatched all the sports/life tour videos before playing yesterday. Such a good idea, such good videos. What happened to the team challenge part 2?

Every time I see images on TV or the internet of the fires, it makes me worry about you. I'm glad you and yours are safe and sound still.

I propose we name that generation of players "Phoenixes," since they'd be rising from the ashes, and of course cool footbag trick name tie in.

I put all the videos together in this post here - http://sportslashlife.com/sportlife-eur ... ur-videos/

Jay did an awesome job with the videos.

Here's the part 2 video

Seems it is unlisted for some reason. I'll fix that up.

On the bushfires, we are good. Smoke will be coming back again tonight. It seems there will be cooler conditions the next week or so, which is a really good sign. There was a lot of impact around the Bega area, where Dad is, but the town itself was not hit. So that's good. Pretty much the whole south coast has had fires, as well as the mountain areas. Hopefully things settle down a bit but there's still a lot of summer left to go.

I will share for sure once it comes through. He's just getting everything set up. Nice guy, he just came up to me in the park one day while I was playing. I talked to him a while, he said he had been backpacking around a while doing stand up comedy stuff but now he's in a governement job and doing this as a bit of a passion project.

Speaking of "Phoenixes" I got a new stroller the other day. Well, not that new, I got it from a chuckout, but it was much better than the other one we had. The previous one, one of the buckles was broken so Jasmine could easily escape from it, then stand up on top of it...That girl is a menace. Anyway, it's a Steelcraft "Phoenix" model. The buckles work so that's enough for me.

This is an interesting article that I just came across about "Kemari" in Japan from the Middle Ages. https://healthandfitnesshistory.com/anc ... se-kemari/ - they say it was similar to an Australian Indigenous game called Woggabaliri https://healthandfitnesshistory.com/anc ... ggabaliri/. I have asked a little bit about this before but never had any positive response. Might have to look further into this. The Waradjuri people are from the regions not so far from Canberra.

I was reasonably happy with this run today - https://www.instagram.com/p/B7NlgwFlLCs/

What I was pleased with was to get the double spinning osis in the middle of the run. Usually I am only getting them at the start of a run, or I will probably do a hand catch or something. Unfortunately I dropped on a normal osis a couple of tricks later.

Happy also with a run of 12 Instagram clips from 12 days. It shouldn't be so hard to keep it up. Another year challenge I'm having a go at is trying to listen to a new album per day. (Can be from any year, just that I haven't listened to before). I'm currently at 13 on that list so that's on target too. I tried that one a couple of years back and finished up about 150, which is way off the mark but it was good to either catch up on some albums of bands I like that I hadn't delved into or to broaden the scope a little.

I'm off work for close to two weeks after today. It's been very slow the last few days but that's allowed me to organise a few of the ideas that I have. Heading to Western Australia on Thursday with Nico. Looking forward to that trip.

Nice run! I can't believe you got that double spinning osis. Great grab.

Listening to a new album per day seems like a nice challenge. I don't listen to enough new music, that is for sure.

I was going well on that album per day challenge. 13/12 or so I think it was. Well now I'm still on 13 but the days are ticking by. I will probably try and listen to a few while I'm at work today.

I've been to Perth and now back again.

Here's a footbag run at Perth airport at 11pm - https://www.instagram.com/p/B7qji70l2Gl/
Here's a little something by the water - https://www.instagram.com/p/B7X-XFXlMbH/

I took some other footage as well so hopefully I can get a vlog together in the coming days about that. It was just Nico and I on the trip and it was a pretty good time overall. Saw a couple of my friends that live over there. Didn't get to see Lotus unfortunately - I think he lives somewhere outside of Perth so it may have been a little tricky.

Anyway, got in a short session today by the side of the pool. https://www.instagram.com/p/B7xIIh9lDKJ/

Nice clear air with no smoke around. Which is good, because they were doing some cleaning on the indoor pool so that had been drained. The fires have calmed down a bit. There were some within Canberra the other day, but we were not affected. They were closer to the airport - lucky we were flying into Sydney. There have also been hailstorms, dust storms and various other signs that the world is about to end. But today is quite clear and nice so hopefully we can get some more of that continuing.

A couple of clips to begin.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B74n1jtF_Bb/ - from today. A few things I'm not sure I've done before. Atomic flying clipper. Also inspinning osis>torque.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B723-tqFUzR/ - It's not in this clip but I got atomsmasher b2b a couple of times kicking there in the park. That's not really a strong point of mine so I will work on that.

I'm not quite on a clip per day, I've had a few days missed. I got a bit sick while we were in Western Australia and missed some days there.

In more important news, I got a teaching job. Part of that job will be organising all the sports carnivals. Swimming, athletics, cross country, well maybe there will have to be a footbag carnival...Pretty exciting. It's at our local school, where Nico goes and I pretty much just fell into it. So that starts next week. I'm going to stick on at the hostel for some occasional shifts, so I think that should work well too.

I started this little project some time back - going to put some more work into it - just collecting up all different news articles that I find relating to footbag, then posting them on the date that they were published. https://modified.in/footbagnews/

Footbag carnival will probably just stay a dream in my mind, but I'd like to do some kind of event - maybe a soccer juggling thing or something could work well and do some footbag in with that. I think this first term is going to be quite a lot of work just with settling in as well as swimming carnival about midway through term and then the athletics carnival is a few weeks after that.

The guy who was teaching last year is still at the school on a different class, as is the PE teacher from the previous year, so I should have some good help there. Exciting to get into this but it's all a bit of a surprise at the moment.

So our country is still on fire and unfortunately the fires are getting a bit close for comfort. It's mainly on the southern side of Canberra, in the national park at the moment. Unfortunately this is some of the best bushwalking and scenery around the area. Places like this one, Booroomba Rocks.

A lot of areas down the coast have burnt already as well, and that's under threat again too.

Let's talk about something more positive. I saw Derek post a video of pixie ducking mirage>dso - I think I tried that before but couldn't do it, but I got it today. Have to go for the other side now.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B7-Fnf9ltZ_/

torque>spinning osis sounds fairly achievable. I will give that a go next time around.

The ones that I have on a lock are pretty consistent, the ones I'm not very good at are consistently being dropped! But I do have a few of them I'm pretty confident in. Haven't been able to string together the 5+ fearless though. What I have been working on (I think you mentioned doing it), is trying to get 10 or so 5 adds within the one run. I don't think I've ticked that off yet but I've been close.

That's a goal, though it still seems a way off. I'm still at 5. 6 I should have done already and I've dropped a few times on a 6th contact. I think 8 I could do reasonably and 10 is not impossible. I know that will be a good feeling when I do that. Haven't been training up on the fearless that much lately so might get back to working on it in the next sessions.

I haven't played that much lately. This is certainly a transition period and it's certainly busy. So I've started up the teaching gig, no PE teaching as yet but that will come on next week. Getting a lot of things prepared though and getting a lot of help in that regard.

Did get in a short kick today. https://www.instagram.com/p/B8OFRbtFEXl/ The first 3 contacts of rubberman came pretty easily. One of my goals from last year was to finally tick off rubberman. I think I've got up to 5 contacts before, but the ease that this came, not in complete footbag attire, gave me some pretty good hope I'm not far off.

I've been trying that spinning osis>torque combo. Making some progress but the flip side is not great for me. I think it's doable for sure though. Just need some more work and the first thing on that will be getting some time to get some training in. Once I get more settled in to the teaching I will have my times. At this stage I still have quite a few shifts at the hostel, but from the week after next those will probably be a lot less common but we'll basically see how that goes.

I have switched to a casual contract, so I will just basically come in when they need someone extra, and the good thing is if I do need to work weekends and public holidays that will mean extra money. We're going to have a few people coming and going in the coming weeks and months so I may end up with a few extra shifts and that could mean some extra money.
