Shred for Savvy

Post by colefieldhouse22 » 09 Feb 2008 10:58

Hey everyone. I am happy to say that the date for this event is finally set:
March 22, 2008.

THE CHARITY
This event is a charity event with the proceeds going to the Children's Organ Transplant Association (COTA) in honor of Savannah (Savvy) Anselmo, a 1 year old girl who needs a live saving liver transplant. The proceeds of the events will go to her transplant related expenses. The event is sponsored by COTA and my fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega. Information about COTA can be found at www.cota.org and more information about Savvy at www.cotaforsavannaha.com.

It will be held in College Park, Maryland on The University of Maryland's campus, in the Record Armory (right across the street from where East Coasts were a couple of years ago, for those who came).

EVENTS:
We are going to definitely have routines and circle. If people decide they want a sick 3, we can have that as well.
There will also be a net demo. There is no formal competition, but we will have a couple nets set up inside and a few outside of people to play on.
There is going to be a really small fee for everyone, like 3 or 5 dollars, but all of that money is going to COTA. This is not a prize money event, but there will be prizes.
The doors to the Armory open for us at 12pm, and the event starts at 2. We have the space until 10pm but I am cooking dinner around 7ish.

CRASH SPACE
As far as crash space, my roommates have given me permission to take over the house during that weekend. It is not huge, but if you need crash space, everyone who will fit is welcome to stay here. The house is within walking distance of the sight. Also, my parents house (which is also in College Park) is available for people who need space. There are also hotels about 1 to 2 miles away from the sight. If you look that up, hotels on Baltimore Ave. would be most convenient location wise.

My address is 4815 Berwyn House Road College Park, MD 20740

OTHER FUN STUFF
-Friday the 21st Vince Bradley's band, Boxcar Collision, will be playing a show near College Park that night.
-Saturday night I will be making a home-cooked meal for all of the players who stick around.
-Sunday is Easter, so I don't know how that effects people's travel plans, but if you will be around my Grandmother is inviting all the footbag players to Easter lunch (let me know before hand if you think you'll be here)

This is my first event but I know it is going to turn out really great and be a blast. I have people who are experienced in running tournaments who are willing to help me out (thanks Vince, Ken, and Ted!). planetfootbag, Freedom Footbags, Waylon Lew and Jorden Moir are all providing prizes for the event. Since it is a charity event, it is not exactly high dollar so if anyone would want to donate something for the event (bags or other prizes, MCing ability, use of sound equipment, judging events) that would be amazing.

I can't wait to see you all there!

I would love to go to this event, and will try to drag members of NYFA to represent in College Park. :)

you all got crash space, boys.

Drew, I am offended at you lack of faith in me but I am glad to say I proved you wrong. :)

Ted, you and Edna probably wont be comfortable at my house, so at my parents house you can have a real bed. Edna and I should do something for your birthdays together!

Any chance somebody might happen to be driving to this event and possibly travelling through/near/around Philadelphia? I'm looking to hitch a ride, can put up ga$ loot, but I'll take the bus/train if nothing turns up.

Do you have an address for the Armory?

I cannot wait for this!

Drew: I can pick you up from Union Station if you take the train, I'll shoot you a PM right now.

Ken and Adrienne probably have all the crash arrangements worked out, but if anyone needs to they can always crash at my spot. Only thing is I have no furniture, not even a couch cuz I just moved in a few weeks ago so bring a sleeping bag AND pillow. You guys all already do that anyway, just making a quick reminder.

I am glad to see the Pittsburgh crew can make it down :) let me know if you guys need crash space.

Also, I just saw on footbag.org that the event did get IFPA sanctioned, which
is super exciting.

I heard Freedom Footbags is donating some amazing prizes. This motivates me to practice even more. I'm getting pretty excited for this event. I'm hoping that by the time of the event the weather will be nice enough that we can play outside. I think that's very possible.
