Posted: Sun Nov 16, 2008 4:12 pm Post subject: List of Quad dexes and videos (updated with YT)
The other day I was wondering how many quad dex tricks have been hit. I thought it would be fun and interesting to try and put together a list. I think it would be particularly cool if we could find/post a youtube video for every one of these. I know I'd love to be able to see a bunch of quad dexes all in one place. A little history could also be a nice add to this project.
Due to the large number of tricks I anticipate, I'm going to reorganize this list based on sets (I am unaware of any downtime quad dexes).
This thread is NOT a place to speculate about what quads are possible. Please don't clutter this thread with that discussion.
Entries will have the following rough format: trick name, technical name, year it was hit, hopefully a video, and maybe a short list of people who were the first to hit it.
Pixie quad dexes
OK, here's my first crack at the list:
1. Pixie flurry (barefoot), 1999?, Windsen Pan (YT vid coming). I remember back in 99 when people were still using the email lists, that some unknown kid that nobody had met posted he hit pixie flurry barefoot. His only eye witness was his mom. Nobody believed him. Years later, I saw video of him hitting it, and it made me think that he very possibly was the first to hit a quad. I think the reason people were so skeptical back then wasn't just that it was some unknown kid hitting a quad, but the fact that it was such a hard and unlikely quad.
Pan barefoot: 40 second mark of this video
Clavens barefoot: 2:22 second mark of this video
Ricky Moran hit this in shoes a while back, and may have been the first to do so.
2. Pixie paradon swirl. 2001? Sunil. Masselis: 3 in a row!
1. Shooting star, shooting down double, 2000, Red Husted. This was the first official quad dex hit. It was funny too, because at the time Red was coming off one of his long sabbaticals away from the sport. Jon Schneider named the trick, and probably can tell a good story about it. This trick was first caught on video in California Connection.
2. Shooting ss dlo. Sunil's first quad dex.
3. Shooting opp DLO. 2001, Eric Wulff. I remember people questioning whether Red or Wulff's shoots were clean, but still, these were counted as quads back then.
4. Pornstar: shooting barfly. 2002. Ahren. This trick is in the beginning of Dan Klokow's vid, Time 2 Jam. It was funny because Ahren hit it clean, but in the video he shakes his head because he didn't think it was.
5. Redwetter: shooting same egg. Red. 2003? It's on Fourkast apparently.
9. Barraging ss egg. 2006/7 I saw Clavens and Digges hit this at Cornell Footbag Jam 2.
10. Backside clownface, walrus, Sunil, Vasek.
11. Backside nebula, Vasek. He does it like a whirring psdlo.
12. Backside nemesis.
13. Furious pdx barrage. Willie Digges hit a clean one on the last Cornell Jam video. I know Vasek hit this thin in like 2004.
14. Triaging legover. Apparently Sunil invented this around 02, and Penske says he's hit it. I'd love to see video of this if anybody has it.
Stepping quads:
1. Blurriest swirl, 2001? Sunil. I remember back in 99 Ahren was apparently really close to this, but by his admission he wasn't good at swirls. I think Ales hits this on NBK. Digges: 40 second mark of this video
Somolinos: Poor quality
2. Blurrier swirl. I hit this in January of 2004 on video. I think Eli still has it somewhere. At the time I asked if it was an invention, and somebody said Ales had probably hit it already. Vasek: In a string with blurriest swirl too
Vasek again: At the 3:10 mark
Ok, good start for now. I've also heard people claim stuff like triaging legover and symp barraging dso, but I'll let them claim that themselves. For now I want to limit the list to tricks I am reasonably certain have been hit and confirmed by video. I'll continue updating today. I will add Cods and continue finding vids for other ones. _________________

Unfortunately counting quads isn't that useful. There are simply too many to include. The "total" doesn't give an accurate or helpful representation of anything.
After making a short list, I've hit well over 40. _________________

Here is an old old old old junk video of me doing Pixie Chainsaw barefoot for the first time (I think?) back in (I believe) the summer of '04. Gawd, I wish I was that skinny again:

Cod: Thanks for posting your videos, and props on your unique quads. I will add a "railing quads" section to the first post when I get time.
Jeremy: Is that a list of quads you have hit? Do you have video for any/some of them? For tricks like shooting opp barrage (where it is easy to the both the set and the downtime) I'd really only like to list them if they have been caught on video cleanly. I bet you could hit a bunch of those on a digital camera in your next session and make a quick YT vid of it. Props on mastering sailing set enough to get so many quads out of it.
Jorden: I made this thread because I was curious about what Quads have been hit, and how many. I also thought it would be cool to collect video of as many quads as possible in one place. Has this thread been "useful" to me? Well, since I've started it I would say all the following are true:
1. I have a better sense of how many quads have been hit.
2. I've enjoyed watching a ton of footbag video of quad dexes (and hopefully others have too)
3. There is now a place where people can where people can easily watch a bunch of quads, and learn about quads that have been hit.
Is that "useful?" I don't know. But it's been fun, and I don't think it ever hurts for people to be curious about their sport, and to try and learn more about it.
On that note, props on making a list of your 40+ quad dexes. I've got 3 questions for you about it:
1. What's the most helpful (or "useful") thing you could do with that list?
2. What's the least helpful (or "useful") thing you could do with that list?
3. Which have you done so far?
Zac: Who has hit frantic paradon (pixie kiwi)? Is there video anywhere?
Ian P: I feel like I saw Johnny's fusing legeater on a YT video somewhere. Can somebody find the link for me, and tell me the time call?
Asmus: The third dex in termobeater is really "the" in that vid, which is why I'm not including it in the list.
On a similar note, I am avoiding posting tricks that haven't been caught on video, or that have only been hit "the" on video. What are people's opinions of tricks which have been hit, but by their very nature are impossible to get 4 clean dexes out of? I am specifically thinking of tricks where the final butterfly is essentially a refraction, such as Vasek's symp furious ripwalk (on the FFO 04 vid) or Jorden's blurry janiwalker at 05 worlds. Should those go in? _________________

I meant that frantic paradon (pixie plasma) and pixie quantum ss double down (like pixie slapping) had both been hit (by me at least). Not sure what kiwi is, sorry. _________________

Kiwi is atomic paradon. I made a mistake in my last post about that. But yeah, frantic paradon is very cool. It sounds a lot harder than frantic dod. Do you have video of yourself hitting it anywhere? I'm leaning against including quads that haven't been hit on video. _________________
