A very special shout out to Chris Ott, great stuff my friend! Now that this event has been announced, through deliberation with Mr. Ott, we are offering a 'circuit' of events on the west coast. One week before Worlds in Oakland, we are hosting the US Open Freestyle Footbag Championships in Portland Oregon. We invite international players looking to visit the west coast to come in a week early and attend the US Open and the birthplace of footbag. In the four or five days between events, we will be hosting people to train in Portland for Worlds (this may turn into a footbag camp, TBA). If you are traveling, Portland is a great town, and it is quite beautiful a trip between Oregon and California. Flights are quick between the two cities (about an hour and a half), by road or train the west coast is certainly something to see. Here are our dates and details, again we welcome all international and local players.
2010 US OPEN FREESTYLE FOOTBAG CHAMPIONSHIPS
Portland Oregon
July 24th-26th (5 days before Worlds)

This looks to be an exciting two weeks of footbag in the United States, culminating with another great Bay Area Worlds! Thanks again Chris, I am personally excited to get back down to Oakland/SF for what should be an exciting Worlds!

I'm gonna try to make it!
If I do, I'll probably be leaving from the G.T.A., so anyone else leaving from that area, maybe we can coordinate something... I doubt I'll make U.S. Open though. That's a lot of footbag. _________________

There are only two days in August that I have to work, and I think those days are the 6th and 7th...which means I don't think that I can make it this year...that sucks! _________________

I wonder what the turnout will be for a North-American Worlds? I was stoked for NY because it was close, and I'm sure it will be awesome on the West Coast (too far for me though), but what's the scene like nowadays in NA? _________________

Would anyone be able to tell me what a realistic budget for an event like this might be (I already know airfare)? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks! _________________

you gotta make your own budget. Do you want to eat out every night, or make sandwiches? Do you want to stay in a hotel or crash on a friend's couch? Do you want to go out drinking or save the money you would have spent on alcohol? etc etc.
a list of the cost of the player's pack fee, entry fees, etc, could help you make your budget. _________________

The scene is still kicking here in NA, Nick, but as for the turnout for this year's World's is still questionable.
I remember in '07 (Orlando) the European turnout was smaller than usual in a typical World's event. We'll just have to see. San Fran is beautiful, and I'm definitely making it out there now that I have a job I'm confident in budgeting with (and that's saying a lot with the stupid economical downturn we've been suffering these past few years).
My only concern is whether I should attend the US Open on the weekend prior to this World's, as I would have to account for another week on my budget. So, my plans for that week are still up in the air at best.
If I can crash in someone's space in San Fran that would be surreal stokage. _________________

I would gladly sleep on a couch or even someones floor but I am new to this sport and don't know anyone other then the people in the GTA. So if there is anyone who would allow me to crash at there place please let me know.
Thanks, _________________

Heya all,
I had been chatting with Mr. Ott for some time about this summertime, again I have to say many thanks to Chris, for throwing in his bid and continuing Worlds for another year. Much love to NYC as well for the consideration, it certainly is appreciated.
The one thing I can say about this Worlds, though it was announced a bit late (better late than not at all), I would still heavily recommend making it to the west coast if possible. Truth is, this might be the last time you have a chance to see certainly players go head to head, or even stand in the same circle together. Freestyle footbag has steadily been going through another transition (happens every 7-10 years), some of the top players you know and love might not be in action in the not too distant future (that's how it goes). This year's Worlds might be the last time some of these titans square off, before they step down or move on to other things. It would seem a few of them have already been slowly transitioning out. I for one look forward to the possibility of seeing Vasek Klouda, David Clavens, Jim Penske, Jorden Moir, Scott Bevier, Honza Weber and so on step into the same circle one more time. Come catch some history, before it changes up again!

Thanks Chris for organizing this, and thanks Red for streaming info as it's made available.
Please keep us updated. I know that for my example, the sooner I get information on plans/costs, the better the chance I make it there and possibly the U.S open, too. _________________
