i've been using a rotary knife. if you draw the panels and cut it with a rotary knife it's way faster than doing it with a scissor. but its still slower than the magnet method but you'll waste less fabric. but you will need a special cutting mat or a glass plate to cut on it to keep the blade sharp....

ales, i think my prognosis for your padawans to be better than you in a year needs to be corrected. as soon as it's warm enough again to shred outside they will freak out

the part of creating a pattern and cutting everything out is really important to achieve an understanding of how the sizes of the template work out and to find a style you like...
