i don't think that footbag ever will be a popular sport that can be compared to football or tennis. footbag is just far to difficult! and it's just "not interesting" to watch, not for us footbag-players, but for my parents and friends. i don't think neither that it'll be olympic one day, there are so many other sports that aren't yet olympic, and in the same time, there are already so many olympic sports... in the future, it will be much harder to become an olympic sport.
in the same time, i hope footbag will become much more creativ. things like tripple spinns, back- and front-flips will be *normal* and there won't be any player who can do more than 50% of the tricks that are done by the footbag-community. and i'm sure, juggling with two footbags will be a normal freestyle category - this part of the game has just started.

it's a good question: what will footbag be in 2050! ... isn't it?

I just saw a movie from the 50s where they said in 2000 we'd be flying hovercrafts and taking vacations to Mars. Call me pesamistic, but I doubt there will be 10 people to become as good as Vasek is right now, in the next 45 years. Though I would gladly eat my words.

Footbag might become all big and popular. But there are LOTs of sports that have been around for more than 75 years and still aren't popular to a big market.

Think it this way. If Vasek could play 50 years and improve as fast as before, how good he could get. 8O
Luckily it´s not physically possible.

In my very humble opinion the current level of shred is very low. I have always believed this since I started with the sport and still believe it to be true today. Take pretty much any player in the top 20 at worlds this year, take them back to some of the first worlds and people would think they were aliens. Footbag has gone from hippies kicking on grass fields at worlds to vasek trying nemesis + archnemesis bsos. I think (again imho) that the sport is both pushed and held back by players watching other players games. For example when newbies enter the sport it appears that guitless should be the standard they strive for. What if instead we told all new players that tripless was really the standard. On the other hand with many new good players around the world we get players that have been playing 6 months and by watching videos and shredding hard are hitting 5's all over the place.

Doesnt it seem odd that there are current players that have been playing 2 years or less that are better than the entire scene was just a few years ago? Doesnt this seem to indicate that the sport really doesnt know what the limits will be, even now? I truely believe that in the new few years guitless will be overtaken by tripless as the STANDARD level of shred. With this in mind in 50 years fearless seems only logical.

I would be happy to hear what other people think about this sort of reasoning.

edit: I think by 2050 there may be a real footbag shoe! wouldnt that be cool :p

^ word i think there will be 10 ppl as good if not better then vasek in 5 years yet alone 45

what if it works back words? you are all saying the positives, yes some negatives but im saying no one has said what if footbag ... dies? i mean come on its posibule that it could go dead and never become very popular. Footbag isnt like other sports where u can just hop in and play, you could never have bowled in your life, never played football, never played soccor, never played Pool, never played kick ball, never played tennis, never lacrossed, but un like footbag you could pick ^ these sports up and play them the first try, footbag takes time, dedication, hardwork, and lots of time and flexabulity. is any one else following what im saying? i hate to say it but what if footbag just didnt get any bigger.

but i think in 50 years its very posuble to be looking at it in a olympic compatitons bc it is a world sport, and its something like other sports in the olympics have that leval of difficulty, there arent many sports in the olympics that you can just pick up, like gymnastics.

* great topic *

what are others thoughts?

I will personally see to it that footbag never dies, ever. We are all footbag, I will pass it to my children and I share my knowledge to everyone who comes in contact with me. There is no way footbag can die.

and it will never become popular? World Championships, professionals, videos, message forums, websites, a shredder in almost every part of every country, is this not poplular?

Anyways, I haven't seen any stopping in progression, ever since I started freestyle footbag, at all. By 2050, I can't depict a accurate picture of what footbag will be. I do know that footbag is, and always will be evolving, changing, reforming, generally moving forward. 6-7 even 8 dex moves are possible, I think this because if footbag continues to grow as it does now, theres no telling where it will stop, or even if

Well, I believe 6 dexing will be possible. Sombody is going to strive for it until it happens.

There is probably already another Vasek somewhere preparing to make himself known within the next worlds or 2.

I don't think I want it too become a popular sport and by popular I mean kids on every corner doing legovers and butterflys. It would be like skatebording became so quickly. It would be a sport of mainly posers riding the trend train.

People would be automatically branded into skill groups and you will never be able to kick with pros because everyone else will be trying the same thing. The media will brand them as stars and posters will be up in teenage girls bedrooms. "LIK OMG VASEK IS LIK SO XOXOXO LOL" (etc.).

It will be harder for beginers. Who would help them stay in the sport if fearless was the standard? Who would help them at sessions with toe stalls and clippers? Would they have to go to the internet to learn it themselves? I think kickers will start to get full of themselves, not the ones now who realize how special the sport is but the ones not even born yet, the next generation.

I hope it doesn't go that big but I don't see how it can't. Every day you kick in public areas you attract a crowed and perhaps a couple of kids into your circle. Everytime you hack with hacky sackers I am sure there will be at least one interested. I realize its difficult and not like other sports (I have been saying that myself for quite a while) but that won't turn away all. Especially when that trend train hits.

That would deffenatly be lame for say me, but maybe not for like vasek... he might think it was cool... and those sites are kind of freaky... I sure hope footbag doesn't become too popular...

Looking at those two sites... Could you imagine how weirded out Vasek would be if he saw them?

I propose a new "I LOVE VASEK & WANT TO HAVE HIS BABIES" subforum. We could put these sort of posts and the lets buy vasek some crap thread in it. Maybe some people would post some new pictures of vasek and I could complete my sacred vasek shrine with them.

Damn, Zach! Nothing like bring down the mood.
Oh shit guys, how did you find out about my super duper secert site? :P

Two words for footbag in 2050 for us. Weelchair shred, baby!

I think it will become more popular but not skateborading big. There will be freestyle shoes and you can buy shoes pre modded.

I will win the 2010 worlds by beating out Joe Kulaz (sp).

South American shred going to be awesome!

I footbag becomes popular sadly I think Modified would either cease to exist or become very overrunned so to speak. When 36 people are on that would be empty.
I think I going to take over Canada. You should help.

It'd be cool though to know that modified would be a big milestone in footbag history. I mean, nothing else other than shred events brings more people together. And even then, it happens once a day which is very regular.
