THE FUTURE OF THE SICK 3 FORUM - PLEASE READ!

Post by Posi-Cole » 28 Jan 2005 19:10

Alright guys, here's the deal....

First off, I want to say that I haven't posted the division 2 competition because I only received 2 videos. Henry and Jochen, please let me know whether or not you would still like the competition to go on as a head to head duel. If not we can keep your videos for a future comp, or just do whatever you want with them. Please let me know.

Anyway, to the main point of the thread ... I've put a lot of effort into making these comps run, and for trying to make them fun for everyone to enjoy. They have been good in my opinion, but lately (the past month or two), the participation has dropped off HUGELY. This is a big thing, as without participation these comps are no good.

Having to cancel comps due to no videos being sent in is not my idea of fun. I really don't want to see this forum die though, as I think it's a cool idea, and I love watching the combos.

I've been informed that the reason a lot of people don't get videos in is because they simply forget. Well, I'm open to any suggestions to get more people to remember, but what I am thinking may help, is to have a sick 3 e-mail list. This will be used to send out information to people regarding comp dates, and to send them reminders, so they don't forget to get another video in.

So, if you've ever submitted a video, ever wanted to submit a video, or just want to know what's coming up in the forum, I URGE you to leave your e-mail address in this thread. Even if you are not sure if you should be on the list, just try it - you can be removed at any time! If you know of someone else who should be on the list, please either tell me their e-mail address or tell them to view this thread.

I won't be constantly spamming your e-mail account, but I will be sending enough reminders to make it obvious whether or not people are forgetting completely, or there just isn't interest anymore. So, please reply to this thread with your e-mail address. Also, if you have ANY other ideas at all about how to kick start this forum, or get more participation, I'd love to hear it. Either reply to this thread, or PM me.

Please write your e-mail address spaced out or modified somehow so spam bots don't pick it up and start sending to you. Ex.

or posicole @ hotmail . com

I've posted this in General footbag too, just reply to either one, both isn't necessary.

Thanks all.

For me it's mostly the trouble to make the video without a real digital camcorder. It takes about a full set of double A's to run it for 15 min and oppurtunities to use the digital camera I have are slim because I usually get home so late ( i.e the lighting is horrible). =\ . I still intend on submitting sick03's though and I appreciate all the time and effort that you put into these compo's.

I personally think that the number of competitions should be reduced, and we should make something more of it.

What about one event held randomly within a 2 month period, giving the contestants 2 weeks to record the trick and submit it for judging.

The prize could be something cool like a limited edition 'Modified.ca' t-shirt that the winners sign, date and post forward to the next winner. At the end of the year we could then auction it off with the proceds going to Worlds or something equally worthy.

No doubt there are some Modified users that would love a 'Collectors Piece' like a signed T-shirt by other Modified users, and past Sick 3 winners.

Perhaps a footbag company would care to donate enough to get the shirt made, and posted to the first winner. As compensation and thanks for their support they could include their logo as sponsors of the event.
The shirt would have to look something like: THIS

This is just used as an example. The origional image can be found HERE. (Used without permission.)

Just a thought, though
Comment in the BCS blog if you feel the need to.

personally I will have some vid for sick 3's once the warmer weather hits, i have no (free) winter shred spots that I can hit up whenever and get some vid. maybe with glass less than a week away i can hit a couple on vid there and hold them for future sick 3's.

i say participation will pick up by May or June. (which doesn't affect people who live areas that have two seasons, warm and wet, and hot and dry)

I got five sick threes in stock - so I would't miss some of the next sick threes.

It's great that you put so much effort into keeping the competitions
going - thanks Cole!

I think the competitions would be bigger if they were held on a less
frequent basis, like every two months or so.

I promise I will submit a sick3 once I'm able to play again!

I think that the popularity of these online competitions would grow if they happened more infrequently. There would be more of a chance for hype to grow, instead of it just being - the next online comp - meh.

I second the T-shirt idea that funds IFPA/worlds.

I do plan on competing once I get a driver for my firewire card. :?

I've never enrolled, but I think I should have a cam at my disposal pretty soon. And then I just need three tricks. Cake!

EDIT: and what's wrong with this thread??? I feel like a schizofrenic, posting the same silly thing twice.

morphix 'at' footbag 'dot' com

Or...

selistik 'at' hotmail 'dot' com

I would participate, and plan on in the future, as soon as my legs start feelign better. Until then, however, I don't plan on taking that risk of making them worse.

I also think that the Sick 3 comps is a great idea and hope that it starts to gain mor epopularity in the near future.
