Here's something that I don't think anyone (In our optimism) has brought up yet.

Will footbag be around in 50 years? Will it have seen a major decline? Will 2-3 shredders to a major city be the norm? Is there really room for a sport that involves such personal triumph alone (As opposed to more competetive team vs team sports IE basketball, baseball, football, soccer)?

I figure if it was going to die out soon, it would have died out long ago when it was first getting off the ground, not now that it does have at least some of a following...

By 2050, nobody will make serious use any move ending on toe and clipper stalls. They will be too easy, automatically considered like guilting, like regular toe and clipper stalls are excluded from serious shredding now.

The future is clouded in mystery.....

i think the only thing that can truely be predicted about footbag in 2050 is that we'll all be old! :(

oh and someone will have hit barraging whirr(nemexcess?)

What makes you say that?

I really don't think that will happen.

I mean, Unless your name is Jon Schneider (which, conveniently, yours happens to be) 99% of all moves people do end on clipper or toe. I don't think the game will change that drastically to create a whole new slew on unique moves that don't end on clipper or toe. However, perhaps it would be possible that something like butterfly or paradox mirage would be considered "guilting" in a way, and these types of guiltless bails will be removed.

I want to be able to shred on Mars. I would have said the moon (even lower gravity), but you'd need to wear a hard suit...

On Mars, at least there's SOME air pressure, so the suit wouldn't be quite as bulky... And there's a chance of Mars being terraformed in the far future. (maybe not in 2050, but maybe in 2200 or2400. :D

I want to go into robotics, so maybe I could make a footbag-playing robot. He'd kick all your sorry asses, especially because he'll be able to rotate his knees 360 degrees. :P

Yeah. That's the way to go. I'll be looking for something like that. Partly because, the fashion forum will most likely be just comments, whoas, he's awesomes and whatnot. Methinks that actual advice will be puseh out and be replaced by thos Vasek-stalker diaries. Honestly, if footbag gets as big as basketball is now, that'd be hot but then thing would go out of control. Just look at the NBA. I'm not saying a shredder from Canada would punch out a Finnish fan but (by the way, I know that no one here's gonna do that. That's just not effective but stupid) but scandals, cheating and stuff would occur.......what am I typing?

Anyways, to make a short sotry even shorter, I guess that footbag in 2050 will be bigger than it is now what with the momentum we all have. Shitloads of sites, lots of support (Modified, monsterhack, footbag.cz, flipsider and whatnot....) if that keeps up, footbag's going to be more broadcasted and the term 'hacky sack' hopefully will be eliminated as a crappy nickname for the sport and demoted to just a brand of footbags.

:)

I really don't think that will happen.
Cole, let me rephrase that: By 2050, everbody will play standing on their hands in order to free their legs from the job of supporting their bodies. Freestyle will be so advanced, the average tricks so complex, that we will all play in the nude to keep our cloths from getting in our way. And we will only play with flaming bags, in order to be more extreme. In fact, by 2050, I predict that all major sports will involve lots of fire in order to be more extreme and exciting to their audiences and players. And we'll all have extra cybernetic limbs grafted to our bodies to help us play better. In fact, one won't even be able to play footbag without at least four legs...

Cole, now do you see what I meant?

But since you brought it up...
99% of all moves people do end on clipper or toe.
...I do find that pretty disappointing. I mean, with all the possible surfaces to use, all the ways to end a move besides just on clipper and toe stalls...

I'm afraid in one point in the future of footbag.

look: at the moment footbag is not that big. Not everyone plays footbag. It's a special sport. And the best I like in footbag is this kind of being a big family. That makes footbag somthing really special. Everyone knows everyone. That's cool! + you have contact all over the world. There are many more good things about footbag...

But I'm really sure that in the future footbag won't be this "big family" anymore. I think I'm not the only one who thinks like that. In 2050 footbag will be more popular. And I'm kind of afraid about that.

More popular means>many players>no big family>the money, you'll get money when you'll win>maybe footbag won't be a fight against yourself (compete against yourself. compete against anybodyelse..) and footbag will be a fight against the others! The main goal is to beat the other one...

The reasons why I play footabag:
- its not that popular
- no "fight against anybody" just against yourself
- know everybody, play with everybody...
- it's the best sport I've ever seen... (creativity, and kind of being absolutly free, you can do many moves: whatever you want)

I think the only reason why footbag couldn't go in a direction that isn't like the footbag we know, is because of the people that are in it right now. Honestly, having such an awesome, tightknit community is great. And I'm sure that baseball never was similar in that it wasn't like a 'big family', y'know? Because other sports don't have the kinda people that footbag does. Footbag has awesome people doing awesome stuff.

YEAH FOOTBAG

truth. but if there are more shredders, the possibility of having more different persons will be bigger.

even though footbag is very fun i doubt that it will ever become a huge worldwide sport. I have this argument with my brother all of the time, people who dont really know what footbag is just think of it as a stupid game and not necessarily a sport. In 50 years time it will grow in popularity but still not a huge sport. The biggest possibility is it becoming an olympic sport, that wouldnt surprise me too much.

Totally an olympic sport.

I dunno if this was posted before, but imagine having super crazy cybernetic legs designed to be able to play awesome footbag? Your windows would be crazy. Think like the robots from I, Robot or something. That'd be awesome. But weird....really really really weird.

EDIT: And creepy.

Yeah, That would be pretty cool, but it would also be retarted lol. It would take away the entire point of the game because it wouldnt take any talent anymore.

Yeah. But on the other hand you could do super insane tricks. It might get a bit more difficult..maybe.
