Solo players, quit crying
Solo players, quit crying
Boo Hoo, there's no one to play with me!
Myself and many others have gone their whole footbag careers without someone nearby to play with regularly. If you don't stop pitying yourself for having to play alone you will never get good. Instead of spending your time whining, go play. Be happy you can play. If you can't be happy about playing alone, perhaps you shouldn't be playing? Why do something if it makes you depressed or bitchy?
If you still hate playing alone, stop TALKING about the fact that you have to play alone. Let your problems be YOUR problems.

Whenever I feel like complaining about a solo session or a bad session, I always remind myself of a few things:
1. This is still better than work/HW.
2. At least I am healthy enough to play.
3. Even if I can't tell at that moment, this is somehow making me better.
And really, if you play solo, there are things you can do to change it. Start a club, play in public, do school demos, whatever. If you really want people to play with, you can find them. It's a matter of effort.

It does suck when you're new though. I hated the fact that I shredded alone, but over time probably after about 6 or 8 months I realized I LOVE playing alone. Because you can get so much more done, and the level of focus is really intense. I actually started to prefer it over shred circles. I think now I still prefer solo ultimately, but I definitely look forward to shredding with someone else sort of as a treat if that makes any sense.
I also think it's kinda bad for your game if you RELY on shred partners. Like if you started that way, and you've had them your whole career and then all of a sudden you were solo I think it would so much tougher to motivate, because a big part of footbag for you would be seeing your friends.

yeah, i used to be dependant.. I would never shred w/o eric, and that got me no where. Then i realized that im just screwin around, and i should really start to shred if i even want to dream of being good. So i am now independant.
But it can help so much to have other with much more experience tell you or show you how a trick is done. Imagine if all you knew about a new trick you want to learn were the components of it. Wouldn't it be difficult for you to understand, and then execute that trick? I've done this alot of times, when i couldn't find videos that could really explain how the trick was supposed to be hit. And its frustrating.

I'm totally guilty (for lack of a better term) of this. That's probably why I have so many other hobbies other than footbag.shredzilla wrote:...a big part of footbag for you would be seeing your friends.
Word. Granted, not everyone lives in a big city, it still takes effort to draw players and keep them interested.C-Fan wrote:If you really want people to play with, you can find them. It's a matter of effort.
