it truly was the greatest session of my life. aric taught me quantum set, but i didnt hit anything out of it. hit paradox torque twice, kinda sloppy

oh and i hit sidewalk, blur, and ripwalk all on my flipside for the first time :o
then hit ripwalk > ripwalk for the first as well

I LOVE FOOTBAG!!!

This session was definitely insane, I can't say that I hit any nice strings but we were just busting something new all the time. Steve was just insane, "I'm gunna hit ___(some new move)" he stands up and hits it... He will definitely have a nice pdx torque soon.
Pat was trying pixie sets, almost hit smear and smudge several times,.. and then out of no where he foots blur.... Little while later he's add at least 3 stepping moves to the list.. CRAZY.

I was trying to blurry drifter tonight, footed blurry da da curve.. then decided to just hit it,.. hit it the next try my first 6 not a very impressive one though so I'll be working for something better. I ended up footing barfry at least 15 times then finally hit hit, and then right after almost hit sumo. It was indeed a great night which ended with some of the best pizza you can buy Pontillos..

New stuff:
blurry da da curve
flipside spinning clipper
spinning opposite clipper
pinchy diving butterfly
gyro mirage
barfry
sumo

RITFA site has to be updated and a camera must be looked for. I think we should start coming up with things to say in our profile little by little.

Honestly I'm going to both love and hate this month. It can be a chance to improve a bit before I may compete. . But then again it is so far away until the kick till you're sick. I really want to see what they're like. I'm in need of a skooling sandbag that I can get on the spot at the competition.

I'm going home later today and I'm going to see if I can make time to skool some of the newish movz I've struck. Smear > osis > sidewalk > paradox mirage > drifter yo!

good session yesterday, but by the end of it, I was so dehydrated from eating so many sunflower seeds that it *felt* like a bad session. that was kinda sucky, but it was my own fault. I've also had a recurring pain in my right foot from the ridge at the top of my foot to where my big toe joins my foot. I'm thinking it's from landing hard on symposium moves on the ball of my foot. I'll have to remember to stay off those symp moves for a week or so, maybe. Some stretching helped yesterday. has anyone else had this problem?

new moves for yesterday... Gary Cooper (beta reactor, atomic symp whirl), pogo pdox blender, muted pixie ss drifter (off the foot on flip). Spins are starting to show up in my strings. I need more solo skooling sessions so I can shred the way I want with other players. Also, I've got a few awesome moves under my hat that I know I'm going to have pretty soon. they just need that hard solo time for a while.

i just have to share this story. I guess it's moderately footbag related, because the other person in the story (Paul) plays hack.

Last night, Paul and I were at our place with some friends of mine. The coach had just arrived and settled in when we heard a knock at the door. A few seconds later, the door opens, and someone comes in. We all just kind of assume it's someone we know. We hear a "hello?" up the stairs, to which Paul responds, "smells like gaping vagina!"

Sometimes we greet our friends in weird ways... Don't ask.

Max (third housemate) goes to see who's at the door. It's not our buddy. It's our landlord there with a bucket of tools to fix the bathroom sink (at 8 PM? damn...). The coach must be reeking down the stairs to the door, no question.

unfortunately, there's no climax here. The landlord ignored the smell and didn't seem to care that we said he smelled like a gaping vagina. He just politely said he'd be back tomorrow night, and paul and I got to sit and crack up for a few minutes over what he said. it was awesome.

Our landlord is pretty cool...

new moves today:

swirling blender
rev swirling blender
flip swirling osis
swirling infinity first try, second ever

no foot pain today... FUCK FUCK FUCK. my fucking foot hurt too much so I broke plans and now it feels much better. FUCK. they were good plans, too. FUCK.

I went easy on the symposium stuff with the right foot today, which probably helped in the effort towards it's better health. I hit a bunch of flip PS whirls, all that I tried except for one, I think. Spinning whirls are getting better. i think I've hit them both sides, but I'm not sure. I'll get them next session.

I worked a bunch of swirling sets. i tried a few mindsets... I have a lot of luck with pretending I'm going to do a ripstein. Those usually go really high. another thing that works is starting with a slightly uncranked clipper (so, probably normal for most people,) beginning the swirl dex with a sharp pull back to put a little spin on the bag, then pointing the toe down and out at the same time just before the bag comes off the foot, so that it's released. those were my most controlled ones, and helped me hit swirling infinity, near legover, and blender. they get a little less height than the ripstein ones, though.

Back to the campus and packin' the AV tools.
The Home Shred Session kind of was cut short and was a little sucky. Greg came really close to hitting PS mirage. He can get motion down much better than me at the moment so I was pushing him for a while to get it done with and just hit it. He was just too close. But we only played for like a half an hour so there was very little time to complete anything.

I went on a run that lasted so long I had to stop and bail to a toe stall and just wait there while I caught my breath. It was pretty fun. Just went with the solid goldy oldies that I know I could hit and string to others. Good enough, I saw. I taped it and I looked back on my attempted double atw's. . Man I'm fast. Seriously I was quite impressed with myself. . . Didn't hit it though. I'm getting a little upset that I lost the ability to hit that wonderous move. Oh well. It'll come back. Time heals all. . . Except strange genetic mutations.

Looking forward to the next RIT session even though we all know that the best sessions have come from the Nazareth streets. Steve - you know what I'm talkin' 'bout.

here's the information: I can drive but I don't really want to. It's at the high school (Council Rock High School). $5 goes to Red Cross. I'm competing for free, intermediate is $5 and open players is $10.

hssouth.crsd.org/info/directions.shtml is for directions.

We have to go to Syracuse first (not like it's out of our way) so we can pick up Greg P. He wants to compete too. Rock out fellas.

I might want to come... although I count four in the car already and a fifth might be pushing it. But if another spot is available, I'll let you guys know if I can come when it gets closer to Nov 6.

Oh, and sumo bsos yesterday, along with a new 6. And my first 7 is in the works. :)

!!! Chris!!! sumo!!! awesome!!!

I'm so proud of you, man. It's really gratifying to see people that I introduced to freestyle hitting tricks and strings that I can't ;) your style is shaping up to be really clean and sharp. When are you gonna come out and kick again?

today has been a good day for me, footbag-wise. and I haven't even played yet! I got in from the doctor's office, and a brand new carol bag was waiting for me in the mail box. it's small for a carol, about the size of a new richie, neon yellow/green hexes, dark fuschia pents, and VERY heavy... hold on, let me weigh it... holy shit! 47 grams! this footbag is sweet, I can't wait to get it broken in so I can session with it.

and what else. Earlier, Fred T said he'd make me a bag. That should be at least a month or two, I hope I have the money around then.

Also. I got this letter...
"
Matthew -

I am a physical education teacher here at Odyssey and your e-mail was forwarded to me by our Principal, Susan Meier. I am interested in your demonstration and would like to talk to you more about it. Our office number is ***-****. Please call during school hours and we can talk about bringing you in to school. Thanks.

Stephanie Palackas

"

so what this means is I'm going to get paid $200 for doing a day of legball demonstrations at a local high school. AWESOME!!!! and what's even better is that, with every demo I do, I become more qualified and marketable to do them in the future. This is going to be sweet.

If anyone wants to read the letter I sent to this school to convince them that a footbag demo would be a fun, educational, worthwhile event for their students and that they should pay me a few hundred dollars to do it, let me know, and I'll post it here in the Rochester footblog.

I'm going to go kick for a bit.

No matt you can't have a nuke set  (you should definitely work on that set, my favorite set :D )

We haven't had a session in what 4 days...!? What's up with that, we should definitely get together tomorrow, inside preferably if the weather continues to get colder.

We also definitely need to get plans down for Kick till you're sick, and RITFA website needs an update: pics and profiles minimum!! I'm not putting it off... just need to know what you guys want on the site.. Let me know.

okay, someone wanted to see my letter. If anyone wants to use parts of it for their own proposal letter, that's fine with me. Also, if anyone needs help putting together their own proposal, let me know.
me wrote:
Dear Mz Meier,

My friend Nora tells me you'd be interested in planning a freestyle
footbag demonstration for your Junior / Senior gym classes. First of
all, I'd like to say that I'm very excited about this prospect, and
I'm glad to have your interest. I've done freestyle demonstrations at
Pittsford-Mendon HS and School Without Walls. The summer before this
previous one, I taught a class for the City of Rome, NY Summer Rec
Program. All were big successes in getting students interested in a
healthy, fun, athletic group activity that encourages teamwork, self
improvement, creativity, and perseverance. I've been very fortunate
to be able to share something I love so much with a group of
enthusiastic young people.

The format that I used for the P-M demonstrations is the one that I
feel will probably fit your school best. For each gym class, I begin
with a brief talk about the facts and benefits of footbag as a sport,
and how it has positively affected my own life. The talk is followed
by a brief (5 minutes) professional video clip of some of the top
players in the game from all over the world. Then, I move on to the
Demo section, in which I show the students some of my own freestyle
footbag skills, and talk more about the game in general. I like to
combine my demonstrations with Q&A to keep students interested and
encourage involvement. Then, after the demo, students are encouraged
to join me for the remainder of the gym class for a casual kicking
circle, where I can answer their questions personally, demonstrate
specific tricks and concepts, and generally get the ball rolling on
their own involvement with the sport.

For a day of gym class demonstrations, I charge a $200 presenter's
fee. All that I require of the school is access to a TV and DVD
player for my video clip.

If it's decided that your school would like to pursue an after-school
freestyle footbag organization for your students, I'd be more than
willing to help organize it and participate. I've got information on
how to get inexpensive footbags and the proper shoes, the only two
pieces of equipment an aspiring freestyler would need to buy.

If you're interested in discussing any of the details, or you have
questions or concerns, I can be reached at (matthewcross[AT]gmail.com).
I'm free most of the time to get together and talk, as long as I've
got a few days notice to make sure I don't work that day. Thanks
again for your interest. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Matt Cross
