Well my name is my username, and I plan on being a wood shop teacher after I graduate. I am 15, and I just started footbag a day after I joined this forum. My other hobbies are Bmx, photography, and WoW. I started kicking around these three bags with some friends a long time ago, and after a day of failing they just sat in my basement. The Sandmaster and the Higgins are were both broken so I refilled the Higgins loosely with metal filler and restitched, and did the same with the Sandmaster but with 20/80 metal/plastic mixed filler. One day before X-mas eve I went out and bought this 32 panel Hero footbag its sand filled. Today I just went out and bought four Sandmaster's from the same place and I am going to be breaking one of them in shortly :D
So far I have-
Outside kicks almost on lock
Inside kicks on lock
Toe kicks on lock
Knee kicks on lock
Higher bent knee toe kicks on lock
Working on backwards kicks behind my head.
Inside stalls almost on lock
Toe stalls on lock
Working on Flying Clippers :D
Well this was my first post and I hope it was insightful.

Real quick warmup then first time using Sandmaster

Post by TylerTarris » 28 Dec 2010 17:26

I picked the smallest sandmaster out of the bunch, hand rolled it/ finger rolled it a ton, then tried it for the first time here, I diddnt do to great, but I like the feel 10x better :D The first part of the vid is a warm up with the old restitched sandmaster.

Welcome to the forums, and welcome to footbag. I think you'll find the community to be very friendly and helpful. Footbag is a tough sport to learn, and we all remember how frustrating it was to learn at times.

Two quick hits:

1. Where do you live? One of the best ways to get better, and to maintain interest in the sport, is to find people near you who are better than you, so they can teach you. You may want to make a post in the "journies to tournies" section of the forums to see if anybody is near you. Alternately, you can just put it in the location section of your profile. If you haven't already, you might also want to go to www.footbag.org and search the club listings for your state.

2. You probably want to look into buying footbag shoes. Having the right equipment makes a huge difference. The following are three shoes I can personally vouch for:

- Adidas Rod Laver. This is going to be the easiest shoe for you to find. For years it was the main shoe people used, and even today it's one of the most commonly used shoes. Reliable, and encourages good form, but it also hurt my feet because I have wide feet, and these are narrow tennis shoes.

-Reebok G-Unit G6 Low. These were all over the place like 5 years ago, but Reebok stopped making them. You can still occasionally find them on ebay, amazon, or 6pm.com. These are my shoe of choice, since they have a wider base, which makes them more comfortable. They also grip the floor better than Lavers. Hard to find...if you find them, stock up.

-Adidas Climacool. I've never owned these, but I've played in them a couple times and they work very well. Not sure the exact model name, but you can ask around.

My final thought is that you should make every possible effort to attend a tournament. It'll change your life.

Good luck!
