Took 2 or 3 days off and somehow my hip flexor hurts today. Hurts way to much to do anything with my right leg. Just did Flipside ATWs and Orbits for today and also a really boring repeated strong side inside stall to hand catch drill to improve crank.

Short practice because of the pain, so if anyone has any Footbag videos they recommend I need to get my Footbag fix for today. Let me know, please.

Really need to see someone about this hip flexor.

Thanks, just what I needed.

Practice today to celebrate doing well on my final exams. Only my thesis presentation is left.

The hip flexor felt good today at first, but hurt later on. Not sure why it's so on and off. Some days it doesn't bother me at all.

Highlights/drills:

- First ducking op clipper, bs. :)
- Worked on my newly found refraction trick, thanks to Kyle. I like the feel of this one. It was close to some trick I was working on just for fun so I went ahead and worked on refraction instead for now.
- string practice. Hip flexor prevented my full ability so it sucked. Damn I really need to take a break :/
- worked on Flipside ATW and orbit since it didn't affect my injury. Getting better! 13 Flipside orbits in a row, a PR I think.

In other news:

FC Cincinnati has gotten a huge show of support during its first few home games. We even set a USL attendance record. I'm wondering if there is the possibility to get team colored footbags in their team shop. Would be a pretty cool way to spread the sport if we could pull it off. As they are a new club, it seems it might be easier for something like this.

Always worth a shot to contact their marketing division, they might be keen on the idea. I have always thought this was a great idea but never followed up on it.

Injury update: I'll be seeing an ortho / sports medicine person on Thursday. Have been resting my leg with Some icing here and there and trying Cass's yoga but nothing seems to be helping, especially since I'm not flexible enough for the yoga ha.

I'll let you all know.

Careful practice today. After a bunch of resting and ice I decided it might be worth doing an easy session where I focus on the tricks that don't hurt and throw a few tougher ones in to gauge how the healing process has gone. Over all I'm pleased that the pain has subsided about 70% of the way, but I dare not do any bigger moves so I'll still be seeing the ortho on Thursday.

Drills and Highlights:
- drilled ss clippers on each side to warm up since its been almost a week since I played.
- Flipside ATW and Orbits
- did do one tiltless string and I certainly made it worth it. Had 15 tiltless consecutive which was legit, but one or two of those were demonstrably bad form.
- tested the waters with a far butterfly > Pdx mirage. Only reason I felt comfortable hitting this is that I've practiced it enough to have at least decent form. Didn't hurt beyond the slight dull pain that is left over from last week. Not pushing it further though for obvious reasons.

Anyway, since I've been sitting out most of the week I decided to take the opportunity to work out my calves in a way that wouldn't involve my hip flexors at all, and I surprised myself with how far Footbag has improved them. Gainz for dayz.

Also life stuff: officially finished undergrad with a 4.0!

Song for today:

Thank you! Next year I'm not sure what I'll be doing, but the plan is to go to grad school in astronomy/astrophysics. I also love teaching science and stuff like that.

Injury update:

Saw a sports medicine specialist today and he was intrigued about Footbag. Ended up with the hip specialist coming in to help and I received a therapy prescription but other than that nothing new to report. Still pain.

Practiced today to test the waters again.

Went with a few harder tricks and my leg felt okayish. Still not 100% but I'm hoping the therapy will get me there. This whole practice only 1-2 times a week thing is killing me. Sitting around icing my leg and stretching is soooo boring. Still playing it safe.

Anyway, today's practice saw a few drills:
 Marco's drill #10
 tiltless strings. Did pretty damn well. I normally try not to bail to clippers and instead let my string end by trying to hit a cooler trick whilst off balance. Turns out just hitting the clipper instead is probably better for my training so I'm going to start doing that more. The upshot of this is that my consecutive tiltless count will probably go up dramatically, though the variety in my string might go down a bit by having to insert the clippers in.
 new link: far butterfly > far pickup.
 Flipside ATW and orbit practice
 ss clipper drill both sides.
 overall felt really good, tho I did avoid too many right side toe stall tricks. My tiltless string drills were done to music to test out how routines feel.

Got some video clips from working on random strings. a couple of them I consciously try to match the beat:
Also started helping with the Footbag Instagram page which is pretty cool. Definitely nice to have a go to place for a few quick shred clips.

It is fun to watch you improve...you are making good progress. The thing you asked about being a refraction was a far osis. When I differentiate them in my mind, I think of it as an osis being to the outside of your hips and a refraction being on the inside of your hips (hips relative to bag at the moment the bag makes contact with your foot). I'm not an expert on them, but I kind of think of a refraction as being similar to pivoting into a wrap right as you delay the bag.

Also, I didn't comment earlier but congrats on finishing up your degree.

Thanks Bob!

Practiced today And the injury still hurt a tiny bit so definitely not 100% yet. It's kind of a bummer, I was on the verge of another breakthrough and the injury stalled it. As soon as I'm 100% I plan on training pretty hard and it'll hopefully wow some people with my improvements.

Drills:

- ss > op > ss etc clipper drill ; was a little rusty on these but warned up pretty quickly. Best = 14. Flipside clipper degrades with fatigue after repeated b2b usage so looks like I'll have to work a lot on ss clipper and op clipper drill stuff.
- Flipside ATW and orbit
- tiltless strings for a little bit. (Hit: clipper > reverse swirl > op clipper > far Legover > ss clipper. Which was nice.)
- Flipside near pickup practice.

Also hit my first muted pixie op clipper on Flipside.

Rough practice today. Felt really fatigued and I'm not sure why.

I did manage to hit an ugly pixie op butterfly though which was cool.

Best tiltless string was 13 today. A step backward but hey, it happens.

Worked on my strong side reverse swirl today in preparation for something cool. Going to try to hit a guiltless sick 3 on strong side just for fun.

Not during the practice today, it wasn't really a focus. I'll definitely try it again in the future though.

Short practice today. Rain and (non-injury-related) muscle soreness kept it short. My intense practice from Wednesday (almost 3 hours) combined with my running yesterday caused a lot of soreness.

Practiced tiltless strings pretty much the whole time.

@Tjuggles, I hit osis > far Legover a few more times today. They were rather ugly due to my soreness so I'll have to video it some other time.

Also hit something new: simultaneous 2 bag clipper > ss clipper. Never seen that before but I'm pretty sure I'm not the first. Still cool though!

Horrible practice today. My muscles didn't seem to do what I told them to. Muscle soreness and fatigue really got the best of me this past week and I'm not sure why. Also, this may have been my worst practice in the past few months so I'm pretty frustrated.

Anyway, I did get the 2 bag clipper > ss clipper on film just for fun. Here it is:

This time last year I was in Copenhagen. What a great time it was. Instead I'm in humid Kentucky. Ugh, ha. The humidity here is awful.

Anyway I went to the therapy dude and he thinks I need to strengthen my core muscles to prevent injuries so planks for days. Also have some good stretches for my psoas/hip flexor.

Practice today was focusing on individual tricks, I've been doing too much string practice, which is great and all, but I really need to beef up my arsenal to keep strings going longer. So individual tricks.

Hand catch repeat drills:

-Flipside far Legover
-Flipside near pickup

Other drills:

-clipper > near pickup > op clipper > near pickup rpt (I suck at these)
-alternating ATW and orbits on Flipside.
-ss clipper drill.
-a tiny bit of string practice
-clipper op clipper drill best today was only 11

Overall a shitty couple of practices lately.
