Hi everyone,
Since FootbagFreestyle is a very very fast, intensive and though sport I was asking myself whehter too much of footbag could harm the cardiovascular system. I'm not studying medical science or something. But this issue sounds crucial and interesting to me.
I think 1-2 Add moves shouldn't be mentioned here.. it's really about 20-30sec 4add, fast moves (basically). Doing such kind of moves might really have impact on one's cardiovascular system thus the heart and heart desease. Furthermore, a high level of blood pressure affects this entire problem too.
Maybe we should begin with the basics: Is Footbag considered as a endurance sport? Footbag is a pulse pushing sport, primary.
Imagining shredding for a few seconds (30-50) with a pulse of 150-185bps or even higher. After your run your bag on to the next person in your circle. Now what happens is that your body gets calmed down till it's your turn again. according to the players the circle represented, you have to wait for a few secs/mins. With the tranquillness your pulse goes down. And again, it's your turn. Pulse gets up to 150-180bps.
(Anybody knows the sport Floorball? it's pretty much the same principe.) While resting - they say - a normal pulse rate for a healthy adult can range from 60 to 100bpm, although well conditioned athletes may have a healthy pulse rate lower than 60bpm.
Well, if the range between the resting pluse and the shredding-pulse is not that big, it might be okay. Though isn't it kinda unhealthy to push>rest>push>rest like that?!
Anyways, an other point is the obesity in conjunction with footbag. I think fatter people should really avoid to play footbag. This can really harm your cariovascular system. Probably because of a possible occlusion/blockage of the arteries and stuff.
Here we go. I throw it in the circle. What do you guys think? Is it really dangerous? Footbag - cardiovascular system. It hasn't been discussed here, I assume. So let's talk! Thanks for your posts.

Re: Cardiovascular system and FootbagFreestyle
Its not unhealthy to do that if you are physically fit. When training for sports like track, or cycling, or anything that requires a lot of endurance and speed this method will increase your speed and explosiveness. So the same for footbag. This will definately make you more explosive and fast, especially if you do it on a set training plan. On days when you do a workout or have a session similar to what you are talking about, you should do a lot of reps.footjam_heger wrote:Though isn't it kinda unhealthy to push>rest>push>rest like that?!
As for overweight people, its only unhealthy if you dont work up to it. Most overweight people wont be able to shred to well anyways, and if they can, then they are healthy enough to do so.
Hope this is helpful,
Josh

I'm sorry but this is ridiculous.footjam_heger wrote:Hi everyone,

If any of what you just said made sense, people would be dying left and right from exercise related "Cardiovascular" distress. Exercise promotes strengthening of the cardiovascular system, ESPECIALLY if it is done with intervals.

You just got to make sure you breath during those 30 seconds of shred and you're fine.

No, I don't play soccer. Yes, there are competitions. 4 years. Lots of practice.

haha, i have problems with breathing i noticed. i'll stop breathing midstring when the string gets longer than i'm used to so that i can concentrate better, even though it won't help to stop breathing.
but can one play too much footbag. my gym teacher once told me 30 min a day 3-4 times a week for cardiovascular exercise, however i'm not sure if he said don't go over that amount.
and i'm not sure if it's my muscular endurance, or in my head, but when i try to play footbag two days in a row, it often does not turn out that well, i don't think that has anything to do with cardiovascularity (is that a word?) because the problem is my muscles just don't feel like they can dex anymore.

You are partially right and false. No we can't harm the cardiovasculary system by doing footbag. But for the intervals, you msut be carful. By interval we do not means to do intensive exerice for 1 min and then completly stop for 2-3 min. We means to runs faster for 1 minute then to jog for 2 min.... wich will still do that you heart beat at 100 per minutes.I'm sorry but this is ridiculous.

In my opinion (i'm studying in physical education but i do not pretend to have an absolute answer). I would say that footbag is pretty good for the cardiovascular system, especially if you shred alone, as you can reduce the time between every string. Still, to rest between string will not cause any injury to your heart (pauses between string is like pause that hockey player takes between every apperence on ice, or badminon and tennis between every point, etc...)
And for the obese, it's true that they should not do that, AS they should not do any intense exercices... Still, footbag might be better for them than kayak or things like that, as the exercice with the arm raise more the pression than the exercices with legs. In my opinion the problem with footbag for the obese is the articulation. Footbag is a really hard sport for the articulation, for obese it might cause some serious injuries. (It is why we recommande that obese do exercice in pool and not to run...).
As i said i don't pretend that my answer is 100% exact, but i answered with the best of my knowledge haha.
Mat, who is sorry for all that ortograph and gramar error in his text.
