it looks like it crashed and nobody at footbag.org cares enough to restore the forum to have sane dates for the topics.

It's caused by spam removal. There was a breach whereby hundreds of spam messages got through and we had to programmatically delete them. Doing it this way left some ghosts in some tables that really only go away (without yet more finicky SQL) when new content is posted.
It's not that we don't care (and I resent the implication) about fixing the date issue, but it's also not high up on the priories list when we're in the process of completely overhauling the entire site and I'm advocating that we archive the forum (make it read only) and replace it with something superior to phpBB.
At any rate, thanks for the...ummm... bug report? Maybe next time try doing it without the insult?
