Several, if not many, students who voted for Obama also put down letter (c), which is a complete contradiction. Did these students truly know who they were voting for or were they just putting it just to put it? Is it fair to say that this may be the case with many people nationwide? I believe so. While it may not have changed the result of the election if people actually thought about what they were doing, it may have been much closer and more than the results being a landslide
it doesn't show contradiction because it's one issue.
Also your class is not representative of the electorate.
Iain: My point is that there were people who weren't voting on a sound basis of why they wanted who they wanted.

Frank Sinatra: And it wasn't just my class, it was my whole school, but I see your point. This mock election was done to be representative of voting nationwide. But you are right, it does not rightfully represent the electorate because people vary from state to state.

IMO It will always be difficult to not use race as a mental shortcut. I hate to bring up the nature vs nuture debate, but some would say that it is ingrained in human psychology to have a less positive outlook on those that are not similar to you. It was a defense mechanism back when we were monkeys running around Afirca, and to mingle with members of another tribe or family group was dangerous as they may just kill you for being an outsider. This is obviuosly rediculous in todays world, but for those who can`t use logic to overpower some of our baser traits, it still may come into play.

I`ll find some anthropology research to back this when I get back from class, but i`m sure it is at least a respected theory, if not a widely held possibility/truth in the anthropological community.

In any event, most of us (as in the north american community) have been trained to be accepting (or at least somewhat accepting....much less in many peoples cases) by our parents and teachers, and have no problem treating those of other races with the same respcet we give our own.

Back on topic:
I agree that its racist to vote for Obama because he is black.

Prop 4 makes it so that girls who are 17 and younger must now have a parent, legal guardian grandparent or sibling notified before the girl can get an abortion. Then she has to wait 48 hours before the procedure can be done.
I am so glad that I was wrong. I had watched the news at the time the election results were announced on tv, but apparently the result of "Yes" for prop 4 was just estimated, and it didn't actually pass. :-D

HAHAHAHA!!! That kid is a dummy. Canada is a pretty "socialist" country.
I've voted socialist in every election, Obama would be a right wing conservative by canadian standards. Tell that kid to move to Mexico.

I disagree that Canada is a socialist country and that Obama is a right wing conservative, or even more right wing than somebody like Stephen Harper.

my point is that you can still disagree with an issue and still vote for them.

i know what point you are trying to make and i agree. it's always been like that and always will be like that. but what you are using to prove it doesn't prove anything at all.

I agree with Iain. People vote on many issues, not just that one issue you polled, and it seems entirely reasonable that somebody would disagree with Obama on that particular issue, but agree on other issues which they saw as more important, and vote accordingly. I cannot think of a single politician where I agree on every single issue, and in fact I often vote for politicians that I have very fundamental disagreements with.
