The French tennis pro Fabrice Santoro - AKA The Magician.

He is super crafty, he has unique strokes and i like his demeanor on court. Top players love to play him bc he is fairly easy to beat but he will kindheartedly fool with them unlike the other common players. He produces this cooperative competition - like a freestyle tennis between the 2.

Andrew Reynolds.

Professional skateboarder.

His video part in the 1998 film Birdhouse The End changed my life.

Keep in mind this is 13 years ago. Skateboarding has come a long way since then, but this part still gets me every time. Just finished watching it and I want to skate more than anything.

I was gonna say Rodney Mullen. I don't follow other sports, and I don't know anything about skateboarding, but I could watch videos of him all day. And this interview of him really reflects how I feel about hacky:

I don't know who it is today but when I was a kid it was Anja Andersen.
Danish female handball player who revolutionized the game with all her magic trickery.
She also had a I don't give a fuck attitude and Dennis Rodman where her favorite athlete.
At her peak she could probably have played with the males.

I am gonna need to think a little more about who it is today.

Good thread idea and that Rodney Mullen video never gets old.

Rodney Mullen is the most unique skateboarder there is. He pioneered the sport and is also one of my favorites. A genuine role model for kids.

If you like Mullen, you should look up Cristobal Bahamonde on YT.

Really enjoying the replies so far, especially because of the YT links.

Allen Iverson. I probably wouldn't like basketball if it weren't for him. He almost won a championship by himself and I like crossovers.

:D I can watch him dribble for hours. He played so fucking hard and changed pop culture.

Tamas Farago-

Human-Seal Hybrid. Well above all the other players technically for his time and a key contributor to what water polo game play is like today. Also he can hit a 180 degree spin backhand roll fake spinner lob shot :) 5:18 in the video. I suggest you watch all three videos though.

I have many favourites, it is really hard to name just one as it is really hard to compare different sports.

After thinking this for a while I guess I have to go with football player: Xavi.

He is just amazing, a real master mind, the brain of Barcelona (even though I'm a Real fan...)

Oh snap! You just became a even bigger arch nemesis for me! Even though the Xavi comment softens my ice cold heart a bit.

I don't know if I have a favourite athlete, but I'm going to go with Steven Bradbury, who was the first ever winner of a Winter Olymipic gold medal for Australia. I am fond of the notion that this victory symbolised the character of Australia far more than the strength of sporting teams in more common Australian sports.

I've seems some of his stuff and he is pretty rad. Third (or forth?) the comments about rodney Mullen, he is nothing short of a god in skateboarding for anyone who has ever skated or appreciates skating in the slightest. Didn't he create basically most of the basic (flip, shove-it, turning) tricks at the base of modern skating? And I'm pretty sure he was very involved in creating the modern (trick) decks

I myself do not have an answer at the moment for this thread but I will be back.. I fell there are a lot of gymnasts I have to scour on YouTube to remember who my favorites are and why :)
