Modified Rules

Post by dyalander » 12 Mar 2008 18:57

This is the current version of the rules as they stand. We still encourage discussion and proposals for new rules and improvements and such discussion can be found in the discussion and kicking circle forums
-dyalander

-Mods will delete spam threads

-Admin will delete bad user names
*Note: when any new username is registered the admin is required to click a box in their setting order to allow posts from that user, this will help prevent the above situations from arising*

-Users are entitled to one username at a time. When a mod notices a user using two usernames, the mod should PM the user to ask which one they want to use. When the mod gets a reply they will pass the information along to an Admin who will lock the other account. If there is no reply within 48hours the username used last will be left unlocked.

-Mods delete double posts and also, in the "Trick Tips" section, mods may also merge posts about the same trick.

-Mods move threads to more appropriate forums where necessary, as defined by the forum descriptions.

-Mod Edits will be in red and will explain (briefly) why it was edited. Mods must sign all edits. Example: [Mod edit: derogatory language -Dyalander]

-Mods will PM the person after editing their post, and ask them not to do whatever they did wrong again.

-If a mod edits large chunks of someone's post, the mod will make sure to quote the post first and post it in the Mod/Admin forum so we know what was said if a problem arises later.

-Mods can fix people's code errors. Example: [img]http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/5387 ... l5.jpg[img] needs the / at the end.

-When a Mod moves someone's post, that mod will send them a friendly PM letting them know where it was moved, and why.

- There may be no direct references to methods of obtaining drugs illegally. Any post containing such references will be edited or deleted.

- While coarse language is permitted derogatory remarks regarding religion, race, nationality, gender, sexuality and physical/mental disability will not be tolerated. Such remarks will be edited or deleted.

- Where threads degenerate into ongoing abusive personal attacks they may be locked. Users who post such attacks may have their posts deleted and repeated attacks will result in a ban.

-Threats of violence will not be tolerated, such threats will be deleted.

-Posting pornographic material and/or links is unacceptable and mods will remove such material from posts or remove the entire thread if necessary

-“Spammingâ€

looks like good rules. They've been good rules for a while.

The mods need to be more aggressive about enforcing them, in my opinion. Forum spamming and threats of violence have both been pretty public lately (from LEGOMAN and JSACK, respectively) and I don't recall any action against this or even acknowledgement by the mods.

I should also have mentioned - if users notice potential breaches of these guidelines they should PM a mod. Mods can be found using the usergroups function http://www.modified.in/footbag/groupcp. ... 50d7a3974e

Posting about it in the thread will not necessarily help bring it to the mods' attention, PM one of us.

All complaints remain anonymous unless the users specifically wishes to make the issue public.

I thought this made more sense in here than in "Getting Started" ... I could move it back if anyone felt strongly about it.

I thought this might need a bump.

Feel like you guys have been good at editing yourself and going to PMs so far though.

I almost think that this should be another thread, but just to get it out there:

I've had a few requests as of late to remove content that the authors themselves weren't happy with; they said something, wish they hadn't said it, and have reported themselves, asking to have it removed as "off topic."

As it stands, Asmus is currently the other global mod, and some forums have additional mods.

If Asmus or another mod wants to field these requests, it's not like I really care; but, personally, I don't feel very comfortable removing this kind of content. I feel that if you say something, you probably shouldn't just be able to have it removed. You said it. Live with it. Especially if someone has already responded to the post.

Obviously if a post breaks the guidelines somehow (other than an invented 'off topic') or there's some other compelling reason to remove it, I'll do whatever's necessary. But I am going to be reluctant to remove stuff just because you're not into it anymore and want it gone.

I'm not being unreasonable, am I?

I'm probably the one being referred to. I understand why you don't want to delete it. It was already responded to and if it was gone, it would leave people confused. I've learned to be much wiser about what I post here. A bad day does the brain and emotions some harm. I'll live with it. Thanks for addressing this, Allan. Not unreasonable, btw.

You and several others. That's why I posted, because it seemed to be becoming a thing, and wanted to have a post to link to for next time it happened so I wouldn't have to type it out ... :)

In general I agree with Allan. Not having the edit button makes people think before posting - hopefully also when they are a little heated.

I do feel the moderators(pretty sure Zac Miley is also still a global mod) could be a little better at moderating in general. We are looking to add a person or two the moderator team.
