freestyle routines
How many of you have allready worked on a routine for a tournament (freestyle or shred)? Obviously all top players have. I know I have allready worked on a two minute routine but when I was up on stage I just did something entirely different.
For those of you who do have routines, how much work do you put into them? How do you construct them? do you write them first then play to them or the other way around? how often do you change them?

I'd go one step further and say, that of the competition formats I've seen only sick 3 is really interesting. Although having said that, the vids of the routines, I have seen, from this years worlds were in general amazing, so too some of the shred 30 footage.
On a related topic, is 30 seconds really long enough for a shred or should it be longer?

I like routines
I think routines are cool, if the player has a good style.
playing with a good flow, keeping ones head up ...
performing live in front of a public.
I have worked on my 90 sec routine and at the end on stage I forgot something like 6 moves.

2-minute routines: boring imo, two minutes of holding back so you don't drop, wow. Maybe I'm just not interested cause I suck so much.
BUT, sometimes cool, unique things happen in these routines. Don't get me wrong, we need to keep he 2m routines, many players are better designed for this.
30-second shred: I like this more, because of the guiltless intensity, but I'd rather it be something like 30-contact instead of second. Smaller players can get more contacts in 30 seconds than taller ones, so it discriminates against taller players. Lower center of gravity is a major advantage in this sport. It'd also be sweet to see like 20 and 10 contact. I believe that if instead of 30 second it was 30 contact, then you dropped the numbers to 20, 10, etc. It would push the sport faster. People would push thier sick-3's up to 10 contacts, once you've hit the first 10 with skill, just keep pushing and pushing. The combos would be HUGE!
Sick 3: definately my favorite, right along side Sick 1, I believe these two push the sport harder and farther than shred 30, routines, etc. To give an example, we all saw Vasek's shred 30 from worlds, totall sick right? Well yea, but every shred with Daryl 'Genzu', he goes for 20 double dex 4adds, which he usually always hits. He's pushing his record to near 30 (not sure what he's at now, need to ask him next shred). So what I'm saying with that is, Vasek's shred 30 was phat, but nothing we haven't really seen before. On the other hand, Vasek's sick 3 was HUGE, he slayed the beast and bushed out all of these huge sick 3's like never before, thus elevating the sport and forcing everyone else to push thier game farther.
Anyhow, we need things like Sick-1 to showcase the biggest of the big moves. The huge new tricks that people can't risk putting in shreds or routines, again, this is ow the sport elevates. People need to get these huge moves out so everyone can see and learn from. Without these sick 3's and 1's, we'd all be shredding 3 and 4 adds all the time...maybe.

Chris: 30 second shred has a 35 contact move cap on it now I believe...or at least it was supposed to. So the small guys wont have that much of an advantage as far as speed goes.

this is the 44 Wand, the most powerful Handwand in the world, so did i fire 5 or 6 fireballs? now you got to ask yourself one question pal, do i feel lucky? well do ya punk.

Rob: yea, I've heard of that, but why not just go ahead and make it 30 contact, or 35, if there is a move cap, it only makes sense to make it contact sensitive and not time sensitive. I guess one could say, it's easier to say "kick for 30 seconds" than making someone count the contacts. When I'm in a circle though, I count contacts anyways, so I'm used to it, and judging always has to go back to the video anyway. CSS4 is on the way, maybe I can sneak into the judges booth.

i think the big advantage of a 30 contact shred would be that duckings and divings give realy additional time, if you do a ducking ripwalk instead of a normal ripwalk in 30 sec shred you lose about half a second for just one additional add - but if contacts would be counted, ducking a trick would realy be an additional add!
by the way, max: i'm about to choose the music for a routine i'd like to show at 2003 europeans, but it's realy hard to find a good music (2 minutes, with a nice ending...) - so i think i have to "cut" music on my computer, does anyone have experience in cutting music?

yeah I'm really good at 'cutting' music:
at the french open for the doubles I had two songs on a cd, the second one being 1m30s so I said to the dj, just start the first song so it'll only pley 1m30s and then it'll atomatically "cut" to the second song...
yeah that's 3 minutes but that was for team freestyle.
I don't use sound editing software but there are lots out there onthe web.
